Long story short Ive been on Depo for 4 years (selfishly because I didn't want to have a period) but in return I gained over 60 lbs! I'm looking up other methods of birth control but I honestly don't know to much about the weight gain that comes along with it. I do know however that the patch, IUD, and Depo are NOT OPTIONS for me. I'm considering the Implanon Implant. Anyone ever tried it?

Hey! I had the implant and it is really good i had exactly the same problem as you. I gained alot of weight on Depo after 2 years so i have been there. When i switched to the implant it made life a lot easier i think you should go for it. Discuss it with your doctor first though and see if they suggest it too good luck!

That Depo is terrible isn't it? I too gained on it and I wish I just stayed away and had the period.

I haven't heard a single good story about Depo. Everyone got fat, crazy or both. It sounds terrible!

I took Depo Provera for 5 years to treat endometriosis.  I eventually went off the Depo Provera because of the side effects and started regular birth control pills to treat the endometriosis.  The side effects I had from the Depo Provera included trouble falling back to sleep if I woke up in the middle of the night and memory problems.  I've gained weight over the years, both on and off Depo Provera.  But mostly after I finished with the Depo Provera.

do not get the implanon i have it and it sucks....right now i have at least a period that last about 3 weeks long the best birth control you should go for that i am about to get is mirena it will make you periods short, light and most likely no period but the implanon , trust me save your money and get something that is beneficial it will make your life a living hell basically

I also gained weight with Depo. I switched to the pill and have no problems with my weight as a result. I've been on different pills so I can't really tell you which one might be best. Everyone's body is different anyway. If you talk to your doc, any 28 day pack of pills can be altered to make it so that you do not have a period. What you do (and check with your doc first) is don't take the last week of your pills. Instead start a new pack at the beginning of week 4. So everything 3 weeks you start a new pack. All of the new expensive pills do just that. They are just packaged nicely together. Save some money and do it yourself if you doc says it is okay.

i gained weight while on depo, but i don't think it's b/c of the depo b/c i also lost the weight while on depo. I think bc can contribute to making it easier to gain weight, but i don't believe its the cause for weight gain. You can definitely lose while on bc as well.

The problem with the shot Depo is that is only has a single hormone in it unlike the pill which has both estrogen and progesterone.  Any birth control you use that is a single hormone will make you gain.  Try one that is both, it is less likely to make you gain.  Besides the other side effects of the shot were enough to scare me away from ever using it! I would not recommend the shot to anyone.  I hae heard both good and bad about the implant.  You should just discuss it with your doctor, everyone is different. Good luck!

i am taking seasonale... 4 periods a year is much better than 12!  it is an every day pill, and it sounds like you want something that you don't have to think about so much, but the benefit is you can stop taking the pills at any time and i haven't seen any weight gain at all.
