Over 20 Lbs to Lose

Quote  |  Reply

Hello there!
I thought I would take a little from all of the weight loss forums I'm in and try to form another weight loss group with participation and for people who need motivation to stay on track!
DO NOT JOIN IF YOU WILL NOT BE ACTIVE!

If you want to join just post your stats (below)!
Name:
Age:
Height:
Start Weight:
Recent Weight:
Goal Weight:
Pounds till Goal:

Give a brief bio of you/how your diet is going/how your day is going:
(This is also the form to be used on weigh in days, every Friday)

Monthly Challenge:
*August 2007*FINISHED*
Drink 6-8 glasses of water a day! (10 is you're exercising heavily)
Post daily if you want saying how much water you drank and don't forget to log your water!

*September 2007*FINISHED*Eat at least 3 vegetables a day! (To keep track of this, post everyday with your vegetable goal for the day and how many you ate later.)

*October 2007*FINISHED*Don't binge! Eat fruit instead of candy. Kind of a simple challenge but since Halloween is this month some of us might be tempted to eat the Halloween candy... oh just one piece, maybe five more... until the bag is gone and the trick-or-treaters are left without any goodies. Try to curb those cravings by munching on your favorite fruits instead or trying a new kind of fruit you've never had before.

November 2007
Make a healthy thanksgiving meal!
Have a great holiday!

You can continue last months challenge if you want, it won't hurt!

Good luck everybody! And don't forget to check in every Friday with your stats and to support each other!

Make sure you're eating healthy and exercising (turn everyday things into a workout!)

Try to check in on weigh-in days! If you miss two weigh-ins without prior notice I'll take your name down.

Check back every Friday for a new challenge! Remember to share how you're doing in the current one!

My day is going pretty well, got an A-B- on most all of my foods which makes me happy. I didn't go over my highest calorie intake or under my lowest calorie intake which also makes me really happy. Today has been a pretty succesful day overall. I didn't exercise today though, it was my lazy movie/book day. Love those days. I've been trying to gather motivation to get my butt back to the gym. Part of what has to happen before I go to the gym is I have to actually get my driver's license.

Well, can't wait to have people join. =3

I plan on starting the cabbage soup diet tomorrow, so today if I saw something I liked, I just ate it. I've done the cabbage soup diet sucessfully (meaning, I started it and stayed with it for the entire week) once before, and it really worked for me. I lost 20 pounds, which my parents found unusual since you should only lose about 10, and I was able to keep it off by walking every where. I live in kind of a small place and I can't drive, so walking every where was like exercise in disguise. I started gaining the weight when my sister started paying for cabs to and from school, which was my primary source of excercise. I came to my all time high of 190 when I came home from my first year of college this summer and I was able to eat what I wanted when I wanted, unlike in college. I really recommend the cabbage soup diet to jump start your new healthy lifestyle. How were you able to lose 10 pounds?

Day is good so far, it is still morning and the hunger doesn't kick in for me until around 11:00.  I have though about the cabbage soup thing, but I can't stand the thought of having to eat cabbage for an entire week.  I haven't been working out, but we just moved into a new house and are having to do a massive amount of demolition and re-constructing as well as cut down a jungle outside.  Once we are done with the house, I do plan on walking every day.  I am a stay at home mom with 2 toddlers, so the gym is pretty much out for me.  My problem is that I stay up late and am up several times during the night and want to snack.  (Big NO-NO).  58 lbs hopefully by February 08.

I am going to do what I have done over the last 8 months with some minor tweaks. Gone are the eating 14k calories per week spread on 6 days of 1000 cals and one of 8000, and in came the slight exercise.

Having gained 5 lbs in 8 months, that equates to eating 450 cals too many each week or not exercising enough.

The plan I have started is to cut out the cake and biscuit I have each week day. This alone will reduce my cals by 2000 per week, leaving me a deficit of 1500 cals per week to aim for 1 lb loss every 3 weeks to meet a target of 200 lbs for December 25th.

Eat what I want, when I want, but monitor and adjust lifestyle to suit.

Well, today is treating me well so far. Had a good breakfast. Hanging out here at work trying to actually get some work done. Went mountain biking last night for a couple of hours, I love it. Today will be spent working and then packing, I have to move out tomorrow, so probably no exercise today. Going to try biking early tomorrow morning before work.

Tomorrow I move my stuff to my new apartment and then head right home for a family get together. Busy days.

Wow, went awhile with no responses and now when I check back there are quite a few. Awesome, guess this means I should go to work on a weekly goal and deciding upon a weekly weigh-in. I'm thinking Friday is a good day to do that because most groups choose Friday and then you're not weighing yourself too much over the week.

Welcome Sheryl! Mind if I ask, what is the cabbage soup diet? It doesn't sound very healthy, losing 20 lbs in a week. I lost my first 10 lbs by paying attention not only to what I was eating but how much. I ate very normally, went out to reseraunts with my fiance and if we wanted dessert we got one instead of two and shared which was more fun anyway. After I started getting used to eating less, and healthier, I added exercise to my routine, every other day (or every day depending on how I feel) I take my dogs out for a jog around the neighborhood and it takes up about an hour of my day and I feel great afterwards.

Hello Stacie! Heh, I think maybe doing all that work on your house (definently including the yard work) is a work out all its own. Make sure you log all the extra activity in your activity log here, if you do that. Are you going to take your toddlers on walks with you? They might slow you down but you could walk longer, depending on their moods of course. I stay up late too and have that same problem with snacking. I try to eat something with a good amount of protein for dinner so I am not too hungry and then I drink a lot of water at night. If I can't kick the craving for a snack, I heat up the 100-calorie bags of kettle corn or I make an all-fruit smoothie, maybe with a little light chocolate soymilk. =)

Hey Roger! Wow, you're so close to your goal weight! Congratulations! Are you going to do anything special when you get there? I think you have a great motto for doing all this. I like it more than most people's motto, "Eat salad for lunch, dinner, and a banana for breakfast" =)

Hiya Emmy! Welcome and you know what makes it less scary? When the number starts getting smaller and smaller. That makes me really excited when I subtract from it and get closer to my goal. I never thought I would lose the first 10 lbs and now that I have I am so proud and want to keep going!

Hi there Dan! I hope this group will be the right one for you! Busy days, while exhausting, are great when it comes to unintended exercise. If you want I bet you could find some weird, interesting ways to work out while moving. You'd just have to ignore any funny looks you might get from lunging with a box full of stuff. =)

The cabbage soup diet is a week long diet where you eat cabbage soup every day for that week along with whatever food the diet instructs you to eat on a certain day. Today I'll only eat cabbage soup and fruits. I know that it may sound bad, but it's filled with healthy foods and it purges your body of excess water weight, and it also is a great way to jumpstart a workout routine since it gives confidence by losing ten pounds in one week. It also shrinks your stomach...or lessens your appetite...and since I realllllly like food, I know with exercise and just watching what I eat and in portions, I'll be able to keep the ten pounds off, and even lose some more. I'm still under my parents' wings, so I know that if they thought me doing the cabbage soup diet was in any way stupid or unhealthy, they wouldn't allow it. I really recommend it, especially if anyone has made the decision they're ready for a change and just need a little boost in getting there. It's very challenging, and I've tried it many times, and only followed through with it once, and that's when I lost the 20 pounds. But I know that if I can finish the diet again, then I know that I have what it takes to reach my goal.

I would like to join...here are my stats:

Sheryl - So... it's kind of like a detox diet? Mostly fruits, vegetables, and water? I'm fine with detoxing, I just don't ever like seeing it be abused and used as a way to lose weight. You're thinking of it in a good way though, a way to jumpstart your diet. That's not unhealthy, just don't do it too much or for too long, don't hurt your body while trying to fix it. =)

Hey RR, glad to have you here, good luck on eating healthy, I've posted a weekly challenge if you want to participate in that!

Hi Abby! You're getting really close to your goal, congratulations! It's good to have you here, I hope there's lots of motivation available. =)

Hey Roger! Wow, you're so close to your goal weight! Congratulations! Are you going to do anything special when you get there? I think you have a great motto for doing all this. I like it more than most people's motto, "Eat salad for lunch, dinner, and a banana for breakfast" =)

Cheers? Don?t forget that my goal weight is somewhat above my supposed healthy weight?, and my weight will increase with upping my exercise regime anyhow. Not quite as clear cut when you take things into consideration :$

I am close to getting my lifestyle sorted and exercise regime to suit whereby it is not always a battle, and I can get on with what I believe a human should be doing?.. living and having fun on-route.

Trying not to preach, but if I have a, what people on CC call bad day and have a pizza when I shouldn?t, what does it mean? 1500 cals? What is that? It is not even 0.5lbs if it all went to weight, and 0.5 lbs is 2 days of dieting, but more importantly I have had a great meal and most likely with great company?. J

All I need do is walk the dog a couple of nights more to save the wife, and miss a couple of beers during the week?. Shrugs. Not an issue ;)

Good luck to everyone?.
Whoops...I pout on my chart that I'm 5'11''...

I meant 5' 1'' !

Yes, I'm not the statuesque beauty you imagined. Such is life. ;)

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I have been the same weight for the past two weeks, so I need to up the exercise.  At the moment I do exercises at home (pilates) but my goal is to walk a lot more in the evenings/weekends.

Roger, I did see that and don't worry, I didn't forget. But I look at those last 5 lbs as a kind of milestone, it was your goal to get to that weight and that means you accomplished something big. After that, you have a new goal to get to your healthy weight. Your weight might increase or stay the same but your measurements will decrease for sure.
I think most people would only call that a bad day if they ate an entire large pizza all by themselves. I eat pizza, in moderation. I personally, don't care so much about how many pounds any overeating equals, my main goal when joining this site was to become healthier in my eating habits... and there was a whole background story behind that no one wants to hear. =)
You've got it figured out, that's great for you, the wife, and the dog. =D

Haha, Emmy, you know you could have editted that and with my poor memory skills gotten away with it. =D You're welcome, hope you're doing great today!

Hey Denise! Do you live alone, with a partner, kids? If you can I'd say emptying your kitchen of anything full of saturated/trans fats (a little is not bad) and anything else you deem unhealthy and something you should not eat and when you go grocery shopping, focus on choosing healthy foods.
It's great to have you here, I hope we'll be a good support forum for you.

Hello Lynn! In regards to upping the exercise, how about adding some more exercises in there. Don't just do the same thing for longer, not only is that boring but maybe your body has gotten used to them and that's why you've his a plateau. =) It's great to have you here, I hope we're the support you need to get healthy!

Note for everyone: I just wanted to say NEXT Friday will be our first official weigh in day. Lots of people joined yesterday so there's no reason for them to weigh themselves again.
ALSO! Today is the day the weekly challenge begins, don't forget to check in with how you're doing throughout the week, talk about how you're feeling upping the water intake (if you haven't already).

Have a great day everyone!

-Bri

Hello all,

I'd love to join this group.  I've been going to the gym for the past 2 weeks...longest time in years.  I'm just trying to get healthier.  Not really dieting, just making healthier food choices.  At the gym I'm walking my way to jogging.  I'm currently w alking for about 2.6 miles at least 4 times a week.  I'd like to add another workout...yoga, pilates maybe.  Right now I'm concentrating on making the gym and eating better a habit.

Good luck this week!
