I also have PCOS along with Insulin Resistance:(  I was diagnosed about three years ago when we were trying to get pregnant and were having no luck. After some weight loss and different medicines we were able to get my body back on track.  Not that the PCOS is gone just better.   My husband and I now have a beautiful one year old baby.  Keep up the hard work, it is worth it in the end.

PCOS is the pits.  Thanks tstij5 for your story!!

I've had issues with PCOS for almost 15 years, only I didn't know what it was then. After my first pregnancy, I gained a TON of weight. After a year of no luck trying for a second pregnancy, I decided to quit trying and to get myself in shape. In three and a half months, I lost 30 pounds and was instantly pregnant. I really wasn't diagnosed until 4 years ago, after my fourth child was born. So keep the faith. It can happen with PCOS.

I also have close to 100 to lose--96 to be exact. (47 down and 49 to go!) Now that I've had my kids, I feel like I can focus more on my weight. And it's fun to see how involved my kids have become. I keep a chalk board in my kitchen that lists the number of pounds lost so far and the number of pounds left to go. My daughter gets such a kick out of helping me change the numbers. I feel like they are supporting me all the way. My husband is too! I'm hoping that losing the amount of weight that I want to lose, the symptoms of my PCOS will diminish. After the birth of my fourth child, I was 10 pounds lighter than when I got pregnant. (Morning sickness! All-day-long sickness! Uugh!) The best thing about it was that my PCOS seemed to have went away. Until I started to put weight back on. When I talked to my OB/GYN about it, he said that often times women focus more on taking care of others and not themselves. I think the difference between me now and me then is that now I realize I have to take care of myself FOR THEM.

Sorry to have gotten so long-winded. I just want every other PCOS-sufferer to know that there is hope. Keep the faith and keep praying!

i have PCOS (am lucky it is not severe though) and have been losing weight normally, about 34 pounds since january. so do not worry, it is doable

Hey there I have over 100 pounds to lose too. I have also lost 12 pounds in two months....that is good. If you figure you are averaging a little over 1 pound a week. That is healthy and it will stay off!! stay positive, believe me it is HARD but WE can do it! Good luck and would like to be your friend.

I have PCOS and tried for several years to get pregnant.  My first DR suggested hormone pills, which only helped to make me have TTOM, I tried that for a year.  A second DR suggested I take Diabetic medication to get my blood sugars under control (which were only at 100 at the time) and to lose weight.

I started at 270 and I lost about 45 lbs following the South Beach Diet (in about 4 months) and got pregnant pretty quickly.  My blood sugars had also dropped to the point where my DR had me stop taking the diabetic medication.  My son is now 15 months old and I am now trying to lose the weight I gained from my pregnancy and then some.

Good luck to you in this very emotional journey.

I do not have PCOS but I definitely have over 100 pounds to lose. I am currently 278 and I have lost 15 pounds since starting CC. I want to be 160. This group sounds fun!

We should post our workouts....

I do not have PCOS but I do have over 100 pounds to lose. I started out three and a half weeks ago at 265 and last thursday at weigh in was down 10 pounds. I am 55 and figured it was going to be very difficult to lose but it hasn't been as hard as I had imagined. The only problem is that I want to do it now and I know that isn't going to happen. The slower it comes off the better it is for you. I know it helps a lot to have a lifeline and know others that are trying to lose also. It doesn't work out as well if you are trying to do it alone.

so far my workout has been

walking

walking

more walking

shopping

walking

and a bit of stretching.-)

Has anyone's hair thinned out from PCOS?  If so did it get better when you lost weight?Frown

Thanks to everyone who posted a comment it gave me hope that i can still get pregnant if i stay focused. The dieting isnt hard for me at all its the exercising. When i have a workout buddy i do better, but when no one wants to workout with me i dont workout either. Thats my only problem right now i need to get motivated to workout more by myself. Any suggestion on how to entertain myself while working out or something to motivate me more.

Hi, I do not have PCOS. Don't even know what that is. Could you please tell me. I do have hypothyroidism which makes losing weight hard. I also no longer have 100#'s to lose. My starting weight was 252 and I am currently at 166. Just wanted to wish you all luck. I know what a long road the weight loss can be and at times it feels like it will never end. I suppose it never really will.  To keep myself motivated I like to listen to music, watch TV, or if I can (my favorite) read. I guess it is just what you like to do. I am cheering for all of you. I have 14 more pounds to get to my 100 pound loss and 21 to get to my goal. It has been about 28 months since I started. A very long 28 months. Just keep going with it. Even on the days you get soooo frustrated. God Bless you all.

the weight loss you report is very impressive!

I also need to lose about 100lbs (or more) and found out on Oct 5 of last year that I am Type 2 Diabetic. I am also having trouble conceiving. I have had people say it was due to my weight, though the doctor has not said that directly. My doctor said I also have PCOS(Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). I need serious motivation as well. My boyfriend and I are about to try The FatSmash Diet.

I watch Celebrity Fit Club religiously LOL. I bought one of the Biggest Loser Books but never really committed to anything in it. I do not watch the show like I used to when it first came out.

I want to lose the weight but a lot of the times find I dont have time to eat. So I find myself hardly eating at all during the day. I joined Curves and I love it. I struggle to find time to do that too. I dont feel like a busy person, just always seem to be on the go.

Anyways I would love to converse with anyone here who shares the same goal of losing weight and anyone who is in need of a friend.

I have myspace and yahoo.

HOPE to meets lots of people and ultimately reach  my goal of weighing less than 142lbs (100lbs less of me)

I have PCOS too and have been losing at an extraordinarily slow rate since september 2006.  My doctor keeps saying that I am a "medical anomoly" and that I should be losing at least 3-4 lbs a week on the routine I am (1000 calorie food deficit 7 days a week, 1.5 hours of exercise 6x a week)... at my best, I have lost 2 but usually it's more like 0.5-1 lbs/week.  Such is life, I suppose.  It's very frustrating.  So far, I have lost 65 lbs.  That would sound great if I didn't have another 130 to go (I'm currently at 265 lbs).  My doctor finally gave me an endocrinologist referral today and is going to get me a metabolic screening.  She also wants me to start taking a legalized form of speed.

*sigh*

Could DEFINITELY use some cheering up/support right about now.

hey everyone just wanted to give update i lost another 5lbs. so im down to 256 doing a lil better but still having problems staying motivated but im trying, so we'll see.

I, too, have the PCOS.  It's a vicious cycle.  The more weight you gain, the worse the symptoms... but the symptoms make you gain weight.   Tried some different medicines to help with the PCOS but they didn't really change anything.  I have found that they one thing that helps it is keeping my weight down.  Although it is a constant on going battle that really keeps me watching what I eat and keeping my exercise going.

I had to do infertility to get my first child.  Second one came as a result of weight loss.  (When you are losing lots of weight, you release hormones that are stored in your fat cells... which makes you very fertile.)

chatty,  how much did you lose to get pregnant?  I started off in the 320s and am now down to 261.  I am not looking to have kids for another few years (just turned 26) but do want to have kids around the age of 32 or 33.  I'd like 2-3.  Any suggestions or tips for me to consider for down the road?

Also, do you guys find that you drop weight right around your time of the month (TOM)?  I just looked at my weight log and I seem to drop about 5 lbs a month and it is ALWAYS in the same 10 days out of the month:  either 2-3 days before, during the 3-4 days, or 2-3 days after my TOM.

I too was diagnosed with PCOS but am now questioning whether it's true. The more I read about it, the less convinced I am. The only sysmptoms of it I seem to have are ones that could be a result of being overweight...I have a mild insulin issue (not enough to warrant any meds, or even for my doctor to ask for more than yearly check-in) and slight hormonal imbalance (too much testosterone) but not enough to cause other syptoms like male pattern baldness, extra hair in other ares, or skin discolourations. I do have skin tags but I inherited that from my dad. And the ultrasound I had to look for the cysts was inconclusive. The thing that started the whole testing was I went off the pill and discovered my periods were very erratic and i was experiencing a lot of cramping and pms. So, after all the testing and the diagnosis, all that happened was my doctor put me back on the pill to regulate my periods.

I thought losing weight would be very difficult because of my "disease"...but once I fully committed to a healthy lifestle, I have found that's it's coming off totally normally (sorry watchmeshine, I feel really bad for you!)  and consistently and at the expected rate. I have lost 35 lbs since January (started at 317) and have another 100 or so to go. I have not weighed less than 270 for like 15 years, nearly my entire adult life....I am scared that once I get down to that, the weight loss will come to a screeching halt and I will discover that I have not escaped the PCOS curse.

I can't imagine working out 6 days a week, and not seeing much results from that, and having the strength to keep going anyway, because that's what it's going to take. You are amazing! I hope hope hope that I can have your determination if I get to a point where the weight loss slows. I hope even more that it never does. I hope that your metabolism realizes that it's no match for you and starts cooperating. I hope that for all of us!
