Any over 40's out there!
You know you hear it all the time. "The older you get the harder it is to lose wieght." or "It will caught up to when hit your 30's" It is a well known fact that as your metabolism slows down. I've only been on this website 4 days and I have looked around some but didn't come across anything yet for some of us older ones trying to lose wieght! I was just on find your twin and noticed that mostly younger crowd signing in there. Couldn't go through 90 pages to find some my age. Thought I'd start a thread to find a buddy of similiar age and stats geared to motivate those of us with the Age challenge.
So here is mine
AGE: 45
Height 5'3 or 5'4 (been a while since I measured my self)
Wieight: 206lb
Build: Large (I think by the wrist test)
Weight Goal:135 -
Non Weight Goal - Working out 5 times a week doing at least 30-60 minutes of cardio or swimming and weights 2-3 times a week for 40 minutes,
Anyone out there that is similiar and would like to work at motivating each other!
Hi,
Age-46
Height-6'7"
Weight-366
Build-Large
Goal Weight-250
Lost So Far-around 300 pounds
Non Weight Goal-make some money!! ![]()
I have come a long way, but I still have a long way to go. After all, they say the last 100 pounds are the toughest!! ![]()
Hi. I need a buddy to motivate me. I have been loosing since March 18th. I started CC about 3 weeks ago. It's been a good tool. It is hard to loose at this age!!! I want to be healthy and live longer. I will not lie, I also want to look good again.
I started at 234 and today I am at 207.5. my goal of 175 is for starters. My biggest fault is working out. I would love to buddy with someone who does, that would motivate me. I am doing well at counting calories and sticking to for the most part. I try to eat what I like and make it a life style change. Lets all buddy up
Weight: 207
Goal: 175 for starters
Built: Large (again per the wrist test)
Sex: Female
Age: 48
5'6"
Hello, I'm 41 and started CC in Jan 08. I'm 5'71/2 and I started at 182lbs (before CC) I was about 168 when I joined and now down to 148.4/150.2 it jumps a lot. I'm aiming for 140lbs, but man what a job I'm having getting there. Wrist measures 6.4" can cross my fingers over so I think that makes me small framed?
Would love to join all of you ![]()

Yeah, two things I couldn't believe when I turned 40.
1) I'm 40?
2) I weigh over 180 lbs?
Lots of excuses got me where I am and I'm just trying to think positive to get out of this hole I've dug myself into.
AGE: 40 (only for a month longer) ![]()
Height: 5'3 and a half ![]()
Weight: 188 lbs ![]()
Build: Large (I think by the wrist test too) ![]()
Weight Goal: 150 (looked pretty good at that weight. ![]()
Non Weight Goal: Someone already took "make lots of money" so how about have loads of confidence!! ![]()
Thanks for having me on board. I could use a group of FORTIES!
I'm 41, will be 42 in July. I'm 5'2". I started CC in January at 158. Now I'm 155.5 after getting down to 148 and gaining back again. At least I'm not at 158 again. I'd like to be around 130 to start. I was 104 when I got married 19 years ago and I don't think I want to be that skinny again. Just healthier.
I have a busy life and I'm always taking care of my family instead of me. As my screen name says, I'm still tryin!
I would love to have more friends on CC. Some people have left already after a month or two. I'll keep checking back here for more motivation for us 40 somethings!
Just found this thread and would like to join in too. I've been using cc since March 29 with pretty good success. I had some surgery in late April which has left me unable to really exercise except slow walking on level until end of June. My stats:
AGE: 42
Height 5'5
Weight: at start in March 234, current 212 (-22lb)
Build: Medium
Weight Goal:148
Non Weight Goal - Working out 3 times a week doing at least 30-60 minutes of cardio when allowed
I really have not been able to dive into the support system here at cc but I have been using the food and activity logs which are great for accountability.
I'm going to be 44 on June 1 I would like to join this group and yes it is hard to lose weight as you get older.
I have never had weight problems till I quit smoking and my weight jumped up 10 pounds .
I have 3 girls 20, 18 and 14 and have been married for 21 years .
I have always stayed around 117 to witch is a bit more then I would like but I'm not big at that weight just a nice healthy size.
I jumped up to 133 my heavest weight after quiting smoking (4 months ago) and now only down to 127-130 I keep going between this weight very frustrating not to get under 127 but keep trying I work out for 45 to 60 min a day first thing in the morning doing speed walking on the treadmill (speed 5) I do some weights 2 times a week for around 20 min each time I also ride my horse for an hour at least 3 to 4 times a week (depending on weather)
My job has me sitting all day at a computer and I work 10 hours a day I do try to go for short walks on my breaks but not always
I try to keep my calories at 1200- 1300 a day and keep my proetein around 85- 110 grams per day
My Stats
age 44 June 1
sw-133
cw-129
gw-115
Wow! JKPPT - you're doing so great (lost 22 lbs in 2 months!) awesome. Now THAT'S inspiration for the rest of us 40 somethings.
And you've had surgery recently to boot.
I'll have what SHE'S HAVIN!
You are on your way lady.

49 as of this past March.
Use to be 140 and exercised regularly -
medication done messed it all up. Haven't taken that stuff in 4years but lost most of my motivation and gained. Also severe loss of stamina which is finally coming back.
Currently at 180. I've lost 15 lbs since March 15th.
5'8' -married 7 years- no kids (his are grown), 3 furbabies
Goal is to get back to 140-145. I have a closet full of clothes that I refuse to get rid of (can't afford to replace them)
I was doing okay with the exercise when I had 6 weeks of PT but since that is over, I have trouble getting motivated to do it.
I've got to get it together now, the next birthday is the the nasty one!
Just found this thread and would like to join in too. I've been using cc since March 29 with pretty good success. I had some surgery in late April which has left me unable to really exercise except slow walking on level until end of June. My stats:
AGE: 42
Height 5'3
Weight: 142
Build: Small (Wrist is 6 1/4")
Weight Goal:127
Non Weight Goal - 1) Marine Corp Marathon under 5 hours 2) Working out 5 times a week doing 3 runs and 2 x-training workouts
I would love to be a part of a support system for those of us over 40. It IS harder to lose even with exercise. A runner friend of mine is 30, the exact same amount over weight as I am. We are both dieting, and she is losing 2 lbs. a week, while I do the same thing and lose 1. Sometimes 0. It can be discouraging. It definitely seems to require much more patience to take it off "later" in life.
Me, me, me!!! I'm over 40 and struggling to lose about 10 pounds. I did really well last year and was down to 133 but due to a bad hip (which has since been replaced) I climbed back up to the 140's.
Current stats:
Age: 42, will be 43 on Aug. 24
Height: 5'3.5", medium frame
Starting weight: 144.4
Current weight: 146 (I'm waiting for TTOM so I'm bloated)
Goal weight: 135
non-weight goal: exercise at least 30 min/day at least 5 days/week
Glad to be on the team! Hugs & blessings to all!
Four-oh-fabos, UNITE!
Age: 42 real soon
Height 5'2
Starting weight: 175 a mo. ago - racked up while in grad school & working 1 - 3 jobs (dive-thru is my enemy!).
Current weight: 173.5 - Mem. Wknd really screwed me up, so a little discouraged atm.
Goal weight: 135
Build: M
Non Weight Goal:
1. A 5k walk in October. I'm almost up to a mile from, like, nothing on Apr. 30! I have CP, so ex is painful, but I do it anyway, damn it.
2. Staying mobile and out of those seductive electric carts at the grocery store.
3. Hearing my husband say: "Well, ya walk funny, butcha sure are cute!" (He still says stuff like that - I just don't believe it anymore).
4. Kicking those 'shock & awe' looks my relatives give me when they see my weight gain. That is SO annoying.
i am 44 and a mother of 18 and 15 year old girls. i am 5'5" and am at 148. i started last year at 169. my goal weight is 135. it was such hard work getting to 148 that i took a break. i was even on jenny craig, for help, for 90 days. i am still at 148 and have been for awhile. i think i am ready to get motivated again to lose the last 13 lbs. i am still working out and using my heart rate monitor. i burn an extra 1900-4000 calories a week. but when i stay at 1800-2000 calories, i am just maintaining.
i am a small frame
my weight goal 135
non weight goal survive the remainder of my daughters teen aged years with my sanity in tact!!
nice to meet you all and good luck to us all
katttttttt
crap! some nice contractor brought us donuts in as a "thank you". ya, thanks a lot. the kitchen is right next to my office so i can smell them right now! i look on my desk and see a banana and a pear and say "thank you for saving me today!"![]()
why do people thing they are being nice with donuts? how bout a fruit basket? that's what i would give.
oh well. i feel the willpower today! it's friday and the sun is supposed to shine today!
i got on the scale this am and i am at 151.4 lbs. argh!! i will do a little climbing this weekend and count my calories. last weekend was the three day cookout work weekend. so i ignored my diet and i went from 148 to 151 in a week
too bad we can't lose it as fast as we can gain it!
good luck to my new friends this weekend!
kat
Ok so I added you all you people as a friend! I am totally motivated but I like need to calm down or I am going to hurt myself. So I've read all some of your bio's I don't even have one yet! Ha! Still trying to figure out how to get around on things here. But I hope you all are getting out there and doing something. I think I'm gonna start a new thread! (Is that what you call it?) It will be called "What's your excuse?
I was sitting around in February(my birthday month) and I was so depressed and wondering how in the world I ever got up over 200lbs. And more importantly what I'm going to do about it. I can tell you. Where I was then all I could come up with is there is nothing I can do about it. Because I had about 50 excuses why I couldn't do it! Especially exercise. But before April came around I decided That's it I'm through with excuses! And I started first by walking a few 3 or 4 times a week and then by the 20th or so I felt like I could do a little more so I added time at the gym.
SO Here are some of the excuse I finally got rid of they no longer going to keep me from doing what I need to do to lose this weight
It's too cold out side - (I live in New England) -
It's too hot!
I've had 3 car accidents that have wrecked my back - (3 bulging or ruptured discs)!
I get blisters every time I go walking!
My knees hurt, my feet hurt, I'm tired. There are millions! I just don't have the time any more! I'm out working out! LOL!
What about you!
Hi pjlittle...nice to meet you. Yeah I think we certainly all have them...
Some of mine
A who cares anyway....size doesn't matter
I work long hours and don't have time/energy
I walk the dog 3 times a day, that should be enough
I'll start tomorrow
I'm quite proud of these excuses, and still occasionally use them on bad days ![]()
Hi to all,
As to excuses -I think I have used them all. It was alittle better when I was younger because you could get away a bit more with overendulging. Now a days the pounds don't go away as fast and you have to work so much harder to get there.
The weight has definetly shifted as I get older and into more noticable areas. That's also something that happens in your 40's. Gravity is not our friend.
It's great that we are on in the same boat and can get encouragment from one another. Hang in there.
I hope everyone had a good week -Jen (jkppt)
hey guys!
i walked my dog. if you have a dog you need to get out there with it. i went up summerset it's about 800ft up takes 28 min. then i decided to walk to the mall. i put lizzy in the groomers and went and got my hair trimmed and did some shopping. we arrived home 4 hours after we left! what a walk!
so, you see, you dont have to jog, lift weights, yoga just go outside and walk. do the forest gump and go to the mail box, then the end of the street, then the store...haha you get my drift here.
good luck
kattttttt
My excuses for overeating/not exercising/etc:
1. It's TTOM (you know what that means, ladies)
2. It's the weekend
3. I've already blown it so what the heck
4. We're having a dinner party
5. I just don't really care right now (usually goes along with #1)
6. We're eating out
7. I'm tired
OK how many of these have you used? Be honest! There are tons of excuses out there, and I've used at least 2 of mine in the last week. But today I'm trying to do better.
I'm not logging it as exercise, but I did some grocery shopping today and I know that burns some calories. And I've done some vacuuming today so that counts too.
Well gotta get started on dinner; TTYL!
Hugs & blessings all!
let me see?? hmmm??
today-none. i went for a 2 mile walk on my lunch break with my buddies at work and i signed my 15 year old daughter for a mon/wed workout class for an hour and burned another 420 calories. i was within my calories today so i have a deficit of 581
but, of course its monday and mondays are almost always good. it's the weekends that get me!!
last week-#2, #3, #5, #6 and #7
last year-all of the above
hope your dinner was healthy and good.
kat
