Any over 40's out there!
You know you hear it all the time. "The older you get the harder it is to lose wieght." or "It will caught up to when hit your 30's" It is a well known fact that as your metabolism slows down. I've only been on this website 4 days and I have looked around some but didn't come across anything yet for some of us older ones trying to lose wieght! I was just on find your twin and noticed that mostly younger crowd signing in there. Couldn't go through 90 pages to find some my age. Thought I'd start a thread to find a buddy of similiar age and stats geared to motivate those of us with the Age challenge.
So here is mine
AGE: 45
Height 5'3 or 5'4 (been a while since I measured my self)
Wieight: 206lb
Build: Large (I think by the wrist test)
Weight Goal:135 -
Non Weight Goal - Working out 5 times a week doing at least 30-60 minutes of cardio or swimming and weights 2-3 times a week for 40 minutes,
Anyone out there that is similiar and would like to work at motivating each other!
Just checking in for the week and am down 2 lbs from last week. Total 24 since start of CC and still far from my goal. I decided to set small goals so the large amount is not so overwhelming. New goal 10lb by the 4th of July.
I want to welcome all the new life style changers and wish you patience and success.

had a pretty good day yesterday. work went great although i did not have my salad greens. just didn't feel like making a salad. ever feel that way? i have bought the prepared salads but they don't seem to last very long.
at 9pm i was up watching tv on my own and a little upset. i had not had a treat this week so i gave into (i can't even say craving here) it was more of an "i'm depressed and need something to make me feel better) and i had a bowl of icecream with all bran cereal on it. put me over my calories for the day but not the week at least. i have to NOT do this. this is what got me where i am at in the first place! ARGH!! the only thing i can do is confess to you guys and learn from it so i dont do it again and then start today as a new day and not an "i screwed up and so i give up" kind of day.
so, today is a new day and i have the fit camp with kayla tonight so i am looking forward to that.

ps. what set me off was i got engaged on may 13th. my 3rd and his 2nd. we have been dating 2 years and living together a year and a half. i decided that aug 30, labor day weekend, would be a good day for a wedding. my mother is in the hospital right now. her heart is in AFIB. his mother has pancriatic cancer and is in FL right now with her husband buying his home for when she passes. jeff has gone over her will and met with her lawyer. this is why i feel like this summer would be a good time. yesterday i asked jeff to ask his friend if she was available that weekend. he called me at work and said she was. she is ordained and going to do the ceremony. he called me back and said she was available. so i started telling some of the people who have been asking "when is the big day?" i get home and his 26 year old son is over and i said, "we are getting married aug 30" and jeff was like, "no we are not. it is just too soon." huuuuuuuuhhhhhhhh!!!!!![]()
what??? he was like, "your face is turning red" i was shocked. he didn't offer a date he liked. he should have told me this yesterday. why did he say his friend was available? i am still upset by this and had to tell the ones i told yesterday that the date has been changed. "oh, when is it now?" crap. "i'm not sure."
sorry i ate the icecream now because looking back it didn't really make me feel better anyway.![]()

I'll join in here. I'm 47 188.0 wt goal 145 I have had some motivation struggles recently and trailed off here and there past week. I have slacked way down on the exercise motivation mostly for a month. But you all are so inspiring. I needed this to kick it all back in gear. Thanks all

I would like to join too. I will be 41 in July, i am 5'5 and now 148. Want to go down to 135 for the beginning. I joined CC on May 8 but needed some time to figure it out how to deal with activity levels. Well, i selected the wrong level and was not loosing any weight. So i changed that a week ago, hopefully it will start working for me. I didn't weigh in since then yet. Really need motivation and support.

started the mon/wed fit camp with my 15 year old this week. she skipped out on my last night so i went alone.
motivated again!
wish we had better weather. i am freezing today. 55 degrees here in seattle. i have a coat on in my office! sheeesh

It is very hot here, i live in Maryland, near Baltimore. Today was 87 and on week-end it will be 96F. Everybody wearing shorts here. I am tired of the hot weather already, it was two weeks of hot weather.
Well, i didn't loose any weight yet, but i hope that it will start working for me. I eat now 1200 - 1300 calories a day, go to the gym 3 -4 times a week, do cardio and strength. Looks like we are really twins :-) When do you usually weigh in ? I am going to do this tomorrow, Friday.
aaaahh the heat. today the weather man said we are having the same temps at we did in March!! i am at my desk with a long sleeved shirt, jeans and a sweater on. it will not hit 60 this weekend.
you are doing good so far. at this rate you can expect to lose 1-2 lbs per week! you just have to watch out for triggers. things that make you throw your arms up in the air and say "i NEED something to eat now" this is my problem. keeping me at this standstill of sorts.
i weigh in on mondays. i do this because my weight can fluctuate 3 pounds in a week. if i weigh in on monday i found that i will be a lot more careful on the weekend. i was weighing on thursday and the weekends, if there was cake or something, i would say to myself "go ahead you can burn that up by thursday" but now i say "you have to weigh in in 2 days or tomorrow, you better not"

How much did you loose so far? I saw that you started in 2007. It always great to talk to somebody who lost some weight already and can tell you if what you are doing is right or wrong. That's good to hear that i am doing everything right. At first i put the wrong activity level, and i had to eat 1700 calories, which is too much for me. So, i corrected the problem hoping to loose. I am trying not to eat cakes, i don't like the store bought ones anyway. But when i bake myself, i work hard not to eat them
. So i am not baking now at all.

Hey everyone, I'm checking in Hope all is going well. I see we have a few new people on the thread. Welcome tourquise and jilant. I will add you as my friend, I think I may have lost this week but I don't officialy weigh again til monday. My official weigh in I do on the gym scale but I have been weighing in at home, right now every day. Don't worry I'm not obsessing about it. I just have not found exactly where I need to be for steady (even if it is slow) weight lose. My weight is all over the place. I fluctuated this week alone from 202. to 205.9. So I can't really tell yet if I have actually lost. I am doing at least 500-1500 calories under my burn meter. Not sure if that is the right way to go. I have been having good days as far as working out is concerned. I have either gone to the gym, walked or hiked, every day but two in the past two weeks! I love it now. Never thought I'd say that. I am also doing o.k. with my food. My goal says 1850 for calories to eat. But I sometimes burn over a 800 calories in my workouts. So I usually try to stay between 1700 -1950 calories. Right now I'm kind of trying to figure out if all calories are equal so to speak. I think I do better on low sodium days! Some days when we have just been to our favorite fruit market I am wicked high in sugars because all my snacks will be fruit! ![]()
Anyway, If you all would like to have a little bit of an accountablity with each other we could start weighing in and sharing our stats. That may be hard if we don't weigh on the same day though.
Turquoise, Be grateful for those temperatures. We are having 60's in Idaho with a lot of wind and rain. It's been a week since we've had a nice day. It makes it difficult to get out and stay away from the refrigerator.

Welcome. 21 years 6 kids Kudos! I have been married 22 years Nov 1984, But I can't top you in the kids department. My goodness, I would be like 400 lbs if I had to gain and regain again. Anyway welcome. I hope you are able to get out sometime soon. I live in Mass and it been several raining, foggy, misty kind of days today its only like 62. Kind of cold for Jun. But luckily my hubby got my the Ymca membership and I am not currently working so I've been going to the gym for like 1 1/2 to 2 hours a day. OK. so I don't have a very exciting life right now.
Anyway, I'm still learning about all this stuff. I'm and old weight watcher throw away so I've never really counted calories. Never heard of a BMR, or that there was actually a formula! Am I alone here or did anyone else thing that there was actually science behind weight loss! I mean maybe I just bought all the fad diets. Maybe that should be the next thread! How many fad diets have you tried. ![]()

Well, Misskady, for me it's a little bid too hot, 90F. But actually i am enjoying it right now, you never know when the weather will change to rainy. Sorry to hear about your weather, hopefully you will get nice and hot days soon. I can't eat when it's hot, i drink a lot. But i have to force myself to eat my 1200 - 1300 calories a day.
Thank you, Pjlittlefr ! It's great to talk to people of your own age group who understands that it is different for us then for younger people. You really workout a lot. Unfortunately i don't have so much time, i can go to the gym just 3 -4 times a week. And i eat a lot of fruit too as snacks. It's summer and everybody should use this chance to eat all the verity of fruits, besides that it's good for you.

I weighed 236 lbs in October, and I currently weigh in at 180. My goal is currently 160 lbs, and once I get there I'll make another goal. My weigh in day is Monday so I won't go crazy on the weekends! :D
It has been a long journey for me. I've been discouraged by not losing for 3 weeks (that happened during the winter). One thing though, I have never gained. So that's a plus! :D
It's super hot here in Pittsburgh! Yesterday 95 degrees and today 92. The humidity is a killer!!!

Hi, My Names is Del and I started the calorie counting in April. It has been ok so far. Sticking to my 1800 calories a day per doctors orders. I started this weighing 293lbs and am down to 270lbs. I figured I would be down more but thats my fault for little or no exercise.

Welcome momof2funykds and alamomadman. Of course you both can join I hope that you all will find friends and the support we all so desperately need. I am still stalled out at 203. Not making much progress as far as I can tell. The only thing I am doing right evidently is I'm working out between 1 1/2 - 2 hours 5 days a week at the gym. I am counting my calories and so far it looks like I'm averaging a deficit of 1000 per day! Why am I not losing weight! Well, I've only been going to the gym since Apr 24 and doing cc since May 23. I don't know if it will help but I'm not going to stop because I feel better working out and I am more aware of what I'm eating if I'm doing calorie counting. Some how I just eat better. I think its because I hate seeing that C or D grade on my foods!
! I've always hated getting bad grades it always matter to me even when I was little! But I never thought I'd be 45 and still working hard to get A's!

and do "strength" training with weights 2 days a week: 1 hour twice this week! abs machines and hip abductors and adduction machine 5 days
Eat healthier: Ok progress - eating lots more veges and fruit, but still sometimes indulging in sweet treats which may be sabatoging my weight loss.
Personal Victory this week I went to an all day graduation party this weekend and only had one piece of cake and a small little cup of ice cream. I avoided all the breads, pastas and high calorie foods I usually eat and ate lots of fruit, veges and probably 2oz of chicken.
How about you all? Any loss any victories? What were your challenges

Happy monday everyone! i failed to weigh in this am. will do it tomorrow morning. i had to hurry out of the house as it's my bosses birthday and i had to pick up the cake on the way in to work. angel food cake with whip cream frosting is her favorite. it is in the fridge now
??? so, we decorate her office with balloons and flowers and in she walks with two totes of cupcakes!
what the heck??? i mean she is on the jenny craig program and it is HER birthday? i don't get it. so she eats one and is shoving them down everyone's throats. i made my weight control oatmeal with a no sugar applesause in it. every try it? its 210 calories and fills you up for hours. this is my breakfast of choice. i haven't had any cereal or anything be as satisfying as this. the other girls have regular flavored oatmeal and they make them in the same 16 oz Styrofoam cup as i use and they use two packets to my one. i think the weight control has more fiber in it to expand or something. seriously try it if you like oatmeal. anyway i told her i would have one for my snack. but i wont. i brought a banana for that! i will have a little piece of her cake this afternoon and that is it.
i just checked my workout total for the week so i can give you that.
