Any over 40's out there!

Quote  |  Reply

You know you hear it all the time.  "The older you get the harder it is to lose wieght." or "It will caught up to when hit your 30's"  It is a well known fact that as your metabolism slows down.  I've only been on this website 4 days and I have looked around some but didn't come across anything yet for some of us older ones trying to lose wieght!  I was just on find your twin and noticed that mostly younger crowd signing in there. Couldn't go through 90 pages to find some my age.  Thought I'd start a thread to find a buddy of similiar age and stats geared to motivate those of us with the Age challenge.

So here is mine

AGE: 45

Height 5'3 or 5'4 (been a while since I measured my self)

Wieight: 206lb

Build: Large (I think by the wrist test)

Weight Goal:135 -

Non Weight Goal - Working out 5 times a week doing at least 30-60 minutes of cardio or swimming and weights 2-3 times a week for 40 minutes,

Anyone out there that is similiar and would like to work at motivating each other!

Hello Everyone, hope all is well!!!!

Just wanted to share, I stepped on the scale this morning and it said 148.5, can you believe it 148.5.  I finally broke 150!!!!!  I am truly doing a happy dance right now, it so motivates me to want to work-out so much more I can not even stand sitting here at work.  I want to be moving!!!!!

I have not even seen this number since my 20's!!!!

Total since starting CC in the end of April is 16.5 lbs lost, now I know I will not receive any metals for breaking any time records but I am psyched!!!!

Great success!!!!

CLANG - CONGRATS!!!!  Did you increase your calories or did you just wait it out? I know you are soooo happy!!!! Now keep it going and be a big loser!!! lol

I actually stayed with the same calories but since life has been hectic I wasn't able to work out as much so I wasn't burning as many calories so I think in the long run it was a way of increasing my calories.

I am so estatic, I just cna't believe it.  I actually got off and on the scale three times just to be sure!!!!!

clang -Way to go!!  This is so what you need right now.

Joins in on clangs happy dance*

momof2 - which HRM did you buy?  I've been looking at them and so are so many it's confusing.

Made a milestone myself and reached 194 today which is 40 less than my start weight March 28.  Still have quite a bit more to go but it does feel good.

I could not have come this far without the help of all of you at CC.  This site is just great!!

Stress and the encroachinging ice cream monster have been at work in our house...

I wish I could say that I have whooped that stress bug but I have not.

I don't think that I have gained - still have scale fright but I don't think that I have lost and I feel squidgey and squishey...

My running has also not been as regular as it should. I am hoping that calmer waters are going forward..

Congrats clang!!! THAT IS SOOOOO AWESOME...

JKPPT - I bought a simple biosport. Nothing fancy or costly and it works and does what it's suppose to.....tell me how many calories I burn!  It cost me $40 at WalMart. It's even waterproof so I can get it wet. Like today. I walked in the rain! lol

Today I burned 1020 calories walking for 2.5 hours! Yep, I sure did! My total burn is 3010 calories for the day. And, no, I didn't eat 2000 calories! I've eaten 1600. And I'm not hungry at all.

I hope after all this exercise I see a drop on the scale soon. It's been a while since it's moved in the right directon and I'm so motivated now that I have a new toy to play with! lol

I'm glad people are making progress.  Finally I am as well!

I had been stalled out on my weight loss and feeling down - but that's all over now!  I broke through with a 4.5 lb. weight loss this week, so my goal of getting under 150 by 10/1 is back on track.

Way to go Axe!!!  Sometimes patience is all it takes! :)

Hello Ladies, Great Job AXE!!!  Yeah You!!!!  Way to go mom!!!  cawilder I am so sorry about the stress and I can so relate, Ice cream is an awesome stress reliever and I am sure you will get back to where you were!!  OMG jkppt, that is GREAT we so can do the Happy Dance together!!!!  I weighed today and at 148 even.  Whoo Hoo!!!!  Thanks for all the well wishes it makes such a difference when you have support.  My 22 year old told me the other day I looked small from behind.  I am so excited, after 4 children I am not sure if the front will ever catch up but I am HOT from the back.  LOL

Got a question.  Do you ladies really see a difference if you don't take in enough when you put out so much.  I still can not figure my activity level and every site I GO TO IS DIFFERENT!!!  Very confusing.  Any insight.

I wake up at 5:10 am, smoke, get ready for work, cleaning doggy mines for my Grandson, play with him for 20 minutes, drive about 20 minutes to work, have office job so am up and down most days.  Used the pedo for a week and average almost two miles a day walking, drive 30 minutes home because traffic is a little worse, then I eat dinner, clean kitchen, work out for 40 to 50 minutes and then work at computer for another 4 hours then sleep for about 6 hours a night?  I have two daughters so I am up and down doing stuff for them through out the time I am home.  On Saturdays it is house cleaning, laundry, running errand and just moving constantly.

Do you ladies have any ideas?

Great Success to us all!!!!

This is my second week on here and I am really liking it!  I lost 5 lbs. my first week!!!  My goal is 1-2 per week and would like to loose 30 lbs.

Im 42 and pretty active, but since I had a hysterectomy about 10 years ago, I have had a heck of a time keeping weight off!!!  I was pretty much always 140 lbs. (5'10")  so...this has been a really struggle for me not to be able to eat the way I 'used' too :(   oh, well...roll with the changes :)

Would love to get involved with some groups to get tips, advice and make some new friends :)

Oh, lorilou, I completely understand!  I put on weight after my hysterectomy too!  I had some difficulty getting the right hormone level - one medicine packed on 20 pounds in a flash.  Between that and getting older, it can be a bit frustrating.

Hello Again okay so I went to this site caloriesperday.com and entered my weight, it doesn't ask for height or age and after entering everything I do for the day I butn 2785 calories but on CC I am only at about 2100-2200 only adding my activities.  Now my question is I only intake about 1400 calories a day and if I go over by 50-ish I cut the next day by 50-ish so if it is the 2785 I am burning too much?  I am adking becasue I so want to lose the next 13lbs and not take forever and if I could average a 1lb a week then that would only be about three months but I have been so slow lately with my loss that I don't know what I am doing wrong?

I don't want to up my calories if this is way wrong but I am tired of being stuck?  Any insight?

Hi all!  I'm glad I finally found a group that understands!

Age:    48

Height:   5'3 1/2"

Weight:   165

Build:   Small (by the wrist test)

Weight goal:  127

Non weight goal:  my children have finally moved out so it's now just my hubby and me.  My husband is very athletic and I need to keep out with him!

I currently run 2-3 miles,  4-5 nights a week but it doesn't seem to be helping any!

Rode two miles last night, the wind was awful so it was a challenge to ride into it but it felt good.  I know two miles isn't all that Great but it is a start!!!

Still at 148 and holding so that is nice, I can't wait to break 140!!!!!!!!

Have a Great Day Ladies and Welcome kokopelli08!!!

Great Success!!!!

Clangworthy - Good job on the 2 miles. That's a good start!

Kokopelli08 - Welcome to the group!

I've walked this morning and burned 400 calories. I'll walk again later to burn 200 more. I like to have atleast 600 calories burned from walking.

I've been doing well on my eating. I haven't eaten at night either for almost a week now.

Put on my jacket this morning that goes with my jogging pants and it's way too big! I had to roll up the sleeves! :)  Last time I had it on it just fit. I should've known since my pants are so big too. lol  I'm gonna have to break down and buy some new clothes soon. I try to put it off as long as I can.

Hi Mom I would think it would be so AWESOME to go clothes shopping becasue everything is to BIG!!!!  Yeah You!!!!!

So I am so looking for to Biggest loser tonight, I find it so motivating and I so Love Jillian and her attitude!!!

Hi,

Well, i have gained about 2lbs. It is no wonder since I have been eating not great food and not exercising as much due to work and stress. I really need to figure out how to deal with stress better. I mean I exude stress when I stressed and it affects everything. I was supposed to go through the Mayo Clinic Stress Program with a coach and I was too stressed to even go through the program. I know I should do yoga and meditate but when I get into to it I just can't see what I should do and only what I want to do.

Kokopelli: what are you eating? are you eating enough?

Momof2funykids: that eating at night thing. for some reason i just need something sweet. go figure.

You all have to read my jornal post about what happened at WalMart!

No eating tonight either!  I'm getting use to this now. I don't even want anything. YAY!!!

Did you all watch Biggest Loser?  I love Jillian too! Wish I could do the DVD's. I think it would be a waste of my money to get it. Ya know, leg pain and back issues. I hear there's alot of jumping and I can't do that.

Hubby is giving me a shopping spree for our anniversary at the end of the month! He told me tonight!!!  I'm so happy!!!!  I'm going to buy a few things small so I can lose to get in them! :)  I just love him to death!!!! And glad he loves me too!!!

Hello everyone.  I need motivation.  I was doing good the first half of the year then started to put in a new kitchen.  During the construction I started eating  all the wrong things.  it is difficult to eat right when you don't have a proper kitchen.  Well the work is done and I am going to try again.  Currently I am at 189.3 would like to see 156 someday.

Hi Everyone,

I'm new, just found the site today and would love to join the over 40 group.

I started trying to lose weight almost 4 months ago for my son's wedding, which is next weekend. I had hoped to lose 40-60 pounds but have lost 23, which is still great! I had been following Weight Watchers but decided to try counting calories instead since I want to learn how many calories are in the foods I eat to make it easier when I reach my goal....don't know that I'd want to keep paying for WW online just to be able to figure out how many points are in foods.

Since I started my healthier way of eating (no more "dieting" for me) I also started exercising. I worked my way up to 25 mins. daily on my treadmill at 2.6-2-8 mph (up from 5 mins a day at 2.0 mph and feeling like my heart was going to exlode out of my chest) and I also added the Turbo Jam dvd workouts, which I love. I'd do 2-3 of the different exercise dvds each day, but dropped down to 10 mins or sometimes 20 mins on my treadmill because I was doing cardio workouts with Turbo Jam and because between the dvds and treadmill I was exercising anywhere from 45 mins to 90 mins each morning and couldn't add more time than that. I was also walking a mile at night with my friend but she injured her foot and stopped and so did I because I couldn't find anyone to walk with me at night.

Over that time period I lost a total of 31 inches overall and while I am extremely proud of myself, I am also very discouraged. I knew I was fat, have been since I started having my kids (5 total in ages from 7-24) but didn't realize how fat until I noticed that I was getting into the upper sizes in the plus size stores. I'm discouraged because I was hoping to look nice for my son's wedding and find a nice dress and after all my hard work and exercise I went shopping yesterday and still couldn't fit into anything nice and will still end up in a size 24-26 dress for the wedding.  I know it's great that I've gone from a size 28-30 to a 24-26 in about 3 months time and I knew the weight wasn't going to come off overnight...but I still  hoped...lol.

I know part of the reason I didn't lose as much as I'd hoped was because about 4 weeks ago I hurt my back and have not been able to do much in the way of exercise since. Even using the treadmill was painful for a while and then it happened...I fell out of my routine and got lazy again. I'm sure I could've started exercising again at least 2 weeks ago but I couldn't get myself going. I had gotten back into the rut of not exercising and finding excuses. If I had restarted, I'm sure I would have been a lot farther along than I am now, I've regained 6 pounds, but I can't keep beating myself up and finding excuses not to eat right and exercise. What's done is done, I have another 10 days or so to drop a pound or two and go off and enjoy my son's special day.

So today I am back. I got on my treadmill this morning, even though I had plenty of excuses not to(promised to take my kids to the library, have to clean, get things ready for the wedding, back hurts, etc.) and I did 10 minutes. Not much, but it's a start...again. I didn't do the Turbo Jam workout but will add that in again soon.

My son's wedding was just the starting point and my first immidiate goal. I have health issues due to my weight, want to get off my meds eventually and with my kids getting older and starting to begin their lives away from home, I want to be able to enjoy time with my husband once he retires and the kids are gone. We married young (16 and 17 years old) and have been married 26 years now and have 5 kids.  We had our kids not long after we were married so we didn't get to enjoy a lot of years alone as a couple and we look forward to doing that once the kids are grown and I want to be around for that.

My next big goal/motivation is my oldest daughter's 18th birthday in December. We plan on doing something nice for her and I want to look better at that time. I'm hoping to be able to fit into a size 18-20 by then and after that I have another goal...my second son's 21st birthday in March. We are all going to Vegas then and by that time I want to be in a size 14-16....or less.  Hopefully by then I can also be off all or at least most of my meds.

Thanks for letting me vent and ramble on. I really need help keeping motivated and would love any help I can get.
