Any over 40's out there!

Quote  |  Reply

You know you hear it all the time.  "The older you get the harder it is to lose wieght." or "It will caught up to when hit your 30's"  It is a well known fact that as your metabolism slows down.  I've only been on this website 4 days and I have looked around some but didn't come across anything yet for some of us older ones trying to lose wieght!  I was just on find your twin and noticed that mostly younger crowd signing in there. Couldn't go through 90 pages to find some my age.  Thought I'd start a thread to find a buddy of similiar age and stats geared to motivate those of us with the Age challenge.

So here is mine

AGE: 45

Height 5'3 or 5'4 (been a while since I measured my self)

Wieight: 206lb

Build: Large (I think by the wrist test)

Weight Goal:135 -

Non Weight Goal - Working out 5 times a week doing at least 30-60 minutes of cardio or swimming and weights 2-3 times a week for 40 minutes,

Anyone out there that is similiar and would like to work at motivating each other!

Wow, I haven't checked in since last monday and there sure are a lot of newbies.  Welcome everyone I will add you all as a friend.  Hopefully, some of the others will pick you up to and get some encouragement and motivation going.  The idea of this group is to check in every week for progress and then encourage each other.  I know we all want to look better but I think that health should be one of our main goals.  So I like to see those NON-Weight goals!

Because of my car accident and adjustments I am going to give myself some space and not log my progress.  I have not lost any that I know but I will be back next week with my stats!

jkppt and cawilder - excellent thoughts and suggestions for all of us.  It is sometimes impossible with our lifestyles to be gym rats as you say.  Each of us need to find what works for us.  For me, I have found the only way to take weight off is with a lot of exercise.  Besides this time I have only ever gained it back when I was pregnant.  I was able to maintain at around 131-135 otherwise.  This last pregnancy I never got all the way to my goal! And now since its been so long I think my body thinks this is my "normal" weight, if you know what I mean.  I think that's why its so hard to actually lose!

Naylynn - good luck with all your goals including not smoking.  Keep on going and be healthy!

Mmissykris1 wow what a commute - don't think I could take that!

mcastrogiovanni1 - You know you will feel better and be healthier without smoking - Good for you and if you keep on working at it maybe the blood pressure will come down as well!  Don't give up momof2funykds - Yeah!  178.6 and falling.  Wishing I was seeing the progress you are on the scale.  Congrats

kyashiis - topic may be old but we are all still here.  hope you will find the support and motivation you need.  measuring, weighting food and Logging really helps. I know it's difficult when your working all day.  If you are busy all day teaching and can't get to a computer to put it in.  I have found two things that help me Planning ahead (writing my planned food log for the day before I begin it) and premeasure and weigh your meals and put into containers to take with me.  Then I would keep my food log with me everywhere I went so I could check off everything as I ate it and add anything else I ate that I didn't have on my plan.

wants2bhot - We can always use one more!  But Sounds like your not doing bad on your own! 3 lbs in one week! Excellent!

djmommy - Good luck on your goals and you can message me anytime you like if you have questions about cc.  There are alot of articles you can look at too in the getting started section.

Lesalorraine - Congrats for taking some time and setting some goals for yourself.  Being a single parent I'm sure you've sacrificed a lot.  Since they haven't left yet I just hope you will be able to find time for yourself.

Hi all,

Just checking in.  As pj said lots of new people and I also welcome you all.

I weighed in early this week and have broken my two week plateau.  Down 4 lbs since last week and now at 30lb weight loss mark.  Hallelujah.

I have had braces since Feb and I got both wires changed last week and they added bands I'm to wear 24/7 except to eat.  Let me tell you, that is a little known diet secret.  Get braces that make your mouth hurt so much you can only eat soft foods and you will loose. LOL.

pj -Hang in there. Even if you are on a slow speed at least you are on the road.  It was very frustrating not being able to exercise for me too so I know what you are going through.

Have a great 4th -Jen

OK, so I am afraid to get on the scale... There I have admitted it.

I went temporarily chocoloate insane yesterday. I mean really insane.

I think I am ovulating and under stress... Bad combo.

I came home yesterday and had peanut butter cup ice cream (small dish) with chocolate chips on it, then 1 s'more, then another s'more... It was terrible.

I just was a woman crazed. But it tasted so good.

Anybody ever have one of those???Yell

I try to manage my stress but yesterday I guess I did not do so well....

I am moving on..

OMGosh! I'm the same way cawilder!!!  I go nuts with chocolate when I'm ovulating too. Like right now. But I go for sugar free fudgsicles (40 cals) and diet hot chocolate (25 cals) and when that don't do the trick......deal with it! :D But usually the hot chocolate works.

I wanted to go to the gym today. I've only gone once this week!!! I went Monday then tues and wed my back was hurting too much to go. I really need to go. Hubby has our car helping his brother move today. I still have time to go if he would just get home!!! GEEZE!!!!

Tomorrow is a parade in the morning and then cook out (if weather permits). My daughter is dancing in the parade so I definitely want to go. I'll have to get my butt out of bed early though! It starts at 10am!!!!  It's a big deal in this town. They put out chairs on the sidewalk for their spots to sit! They talk about it on the news (Pittsburgh channel) and make such a big deal about it.

I weigh 179 today. I wish this water weight would disappear so I can see my 177 again. Gotta love ttom!!!

Happy 4th everyone! :D

Happy 4th of July!!!

Went to a parade to watch my dd dance. It's a huge deal wround here. It's a huge parade and lasted 2 1/2 hrs. Rain stopped just in time fot it and waited til it was over to start again! How funny is that! :D

Waiting for it to get dark to set off the fireworks dh bought. Can't wait! I love fireworks. I'm a kid at heart.

No weigh in this am. I was in a hurry eating before the parade and getting ready to go. I only made it once this week to the gym. :(  I'll have to make up for it next week.

I wonder if I'm talking to myself! lol

Anyways, we didn't light the fireworks last night. My son went to sleep early (8pm). Guess he was extra tired from getting up so early then walking home from the parade and hanging out with his friends for a few hours.

We're lighting them tonight though. Can't wait. I love fireworks. I'm a kid at heart, it seems.

I weighed in this morning at 178. Wanna see my all time low again of 177. I'm hoping to see it by Monday (my "official" weigh in day) with any luck and some good behavior on my part. :) lol

Hoping ya'all are having a nice weekend!

momof2funykds - just a quick note to let you know that you are not talking to yourself:)

I am in Saskatoon and missed the 4th's activity altogether.  You must be from Pittsburgh if you save p[laces for the parade.  The news has on every year of people saving their spaces with chairs.  I think it's great that people want to watch the parade that much.  Great pride!

Struggling here with so much travel and no routine. Trying to hold my own.

Have a great day!

Jen

It's nice to see I'm not talking to myself! lol

I live 30 minutes south of Pittsburgh. The parade is the 2nd largest in the United States. At least that's what they say on the news. I don't know myself! I know 2 hours is a long time to watch a parade.

Hope things settle down for ya Jen.

Have a nice night!

Hi all  - Hope everyone had a great 4th.  I did but as usual can't control myself around food!   I went to my sisters for the day and she always puts out a great spread.   I was 1.5lbs heavier the next day!  its those dam brownies!  I just can't have 1 or 2 or...well you get it!

I still .5 to go to get back to where I was before that day!  Hopefully I'll lose that and a little more this week. I'm trying really hard.  I just have to learn some SELF CONTROL!!!!

I am going to get on the scale tomorrow and 'suss out the damage.

Over the holiday I did not log my food or anything and clearly eye balling was not the best way to track but I really did not go that far off the farm.

There was coffee ice cream though and it was YUMMY...

OK, back to the losing weight time. I am actually looking forward to the structure.

I hope all is well with everyone else.

Coffee ice cream???  Never had it! Does it taste like real coffee?

I've eaten badly the last 2 days. Strawberry Shortcake with ice cream and tortilla chips and salsa with my stepdd. BAD ME!!!  :( But it was her 1st time spending the night and we were "bonding" over the bad food! lol

I have to get back to the gym too. I went on Sunday and worked out good. I need to go again tomorrow.

So, I'm back on the wagon....

Hope everyone is doing well.

I am on vacation and eating bad is the theme.  The only thing good about is that I was not feeling well after I ate and that may keep me on track.  I had a real milkshake -yum yum but in the same day I had a brownie sundae even more yum yum.  Too many calories to contemplate.

Today it's fiber one and yogurt.

Jen

Sooo!  I guess I'm not the only one.  I didn't even log in all weekend.  Nor weigh in on Monday.  I did do some walking over the weekend.  What with parking over a mile away to avoid the traffic jam after the fireworks.  I live Massachusetts but went to the fireworks in my ds girlfriends town.  Bristol RI.  It is a beautiful town but it is kind of a small thin isthmus so there are only two main roads which run parallel to each other to get out of there.  Makes for some really bad traffic after the parade or the fireworks.  It is well worth it though as it is right on the water and beautiful sunsets.  They have concerts in the park nearly every weekend and oh! sooo much to do.  Love that town.  Anyway had fun with all the teens!  Took my youngest son and 3 of his friends and met my oldest and his girl and her friend.  We got there early and walked quite a bit.  Then the next day we took a walk in Newport at the cliff walk.  Also very scenic water views (Oh how I love the ocean!)  Well the young ones didn't want to turn back so when I got home I had blisters all over my feet.  It was fun until about the last 2 miles.  We ended up doing 7 miles took us about 3 1/2 hours (mostly cause we were stopping to look at the beautiful scenery.  So I took Sun and Mon to recover.  I had 5 blisters on my feet!  I didn't log my food or anything this week end.  Anyway back to the gym I went Tues and today but I'm trying to figure out the new schedule.  That's the bad thing about the YMCA the schedule is always changing every eight weeks or so.  There is alot of campers and such so the lap swimming is severely restriced and crowded.  I got up at 6am today to see if that was a better time but there was 4 lanes and 2 people in nearly every lane!  But I got in 37 minutes and 48 laps anyway.  I would have done my usual 72 (1 mile) in 60 min had I not had to get back and get my youngest son up for summer school!

Anyway hope all is going well with everyone!

Just sitting here reading about Bristol, RI makes me want to jump in my car and head straight there instead of sitting in my office eating a Luna Bar!  I leave for vacation in 2 weeks and it can't come soon enough.  I need a break.  I am nervous about eating well when I am away but hopefully will be able to keep myself on track - or at least take a good walk here and there.  Though I highly doubt I could do 7 miles!

I'm heading to the gym in a few minutes hoping to drop a pound or two before we leave.   Wish i  would have met my goal by now, but what can you do.  Whats the old saying....slow and steady wins the race!

missykris - I just hate that saying. It gets under my skin! lol :D  I don't know about you, but sometimes I like to see a few pounds drop at once! :D

I went to the gym today, so far thats twice this week. Rode the bike for 5 miles, I could only walk 10 min on the treadmill before my leg started hurtin' too much. I did some weight machines too. So I did real well. I even ate good so far. On days I go to the gym I tend to do better with my eating. I don't want to feel like I'm working out for nothing.

Will probably go to the gym again tomorrow and just ride the bike for as long as I can. No weights though.

I weighed in this morning for my monthly weigh in. I only lost 2 lbs this past month. I was really upset over it. But I'm ok now. A loss is a loss no matter how much was lost. Right? It took me a while to get over it and I almost didn't go work out bc of it. I just have to stop this eating at night. I know that's what is holding me up.

well, later....

Hi all,

OK, so slow and steady.. uh huh, that's me -- I lost .8 lb from June 25th to now... I have not been the CC poster girl though so well you reap what you sow...  I am now at 190.6lbs. the nice thing is that getting out of the 190's is within striking distance for me.

Oh, Massachusetts, I miss it! I have lived there since '91 but my whole family is there. I just booked our tix for our summer vacation on Cape Cod where my Mom lives. I hope to look OK in a bathing suit.

Today I was in a meeting and they served us lunch - turkey/provolone sandwich, frito chips, peach, cookie, andes mints and a bottle of water. I started to absent mindedly eat the chips until I looked at the friggin' package - 320 cals - holy mother of god - I dropped those puppies quick. I took 1/2 the bread off my sandwich, dumped the cheese - but well, I did eat the cookie and the mints...

Hope everyone is well.

don't get frustrated - Tammy!  Slow and steady can be so frustrating but in the long run I think its better for you.  We are changing the way we eat if we "diet" then we would probably drop the weight faster but also put it back on.   I've been doing CC since January and lost about 14lbs.  Thats really only 2lbs a month.  I can't say I don't get frustrated at times but as long as I keep moving in the right direction thats ok.

CaWilder - LOVE Cape Cod.   We went there last summer and stayed on the beach.  We had the best vacation.  I barely put shoes on!  It was wonderful. We were hoping to get back there this year but its probably not going to happen.  Hopefully next summer!

Hope everyone has a great day!

I'm just mad about putting on a few pounds over some stupid eating. But this is my life now and you can't quit your life! lol

I at least lose 4 lbs a month and so the 2 lbs was a huge disappointment to me. I just wanted to cry. I know, how stupid! But that's how I felt.

I had no "bad" foods yesterday and no late night eating. Just a sugar free fudgsicle that was 40 calories. So today, I have to do the same thing. I HAVE to!!!!

I didn't weigh myself this morning either. YAY!!!  I almost did out of habit, but stopped myself. :D No weigh ins til the 23rd. I can do it......I can, I know I can!!!

very funny.  I actually HAVE to weigh myself every morning and every night before bed. Its almost like a compulsion!  I can say that I just laugh off the days (like today!) when I see an UNEARNED increase.  I weighed 2lbs heavier this morning than yesterday morning.  But then again yesterday morning I was 1 lb lighter than I expected so I'm ok with the slight fluctuations - as long as it stays within 1-2 lbs.  I'm having a really good week so far. Just got back from the gym and feel good.  Sometimes I notice that if I work out at least 3-4 times a week and then have a week where I can't get to the gym but still eat good that I see the bigger losses.  Its very weird!  Did this ever happen to anyone?

missykris - I couldn't stay off the stupid scale. I weighed myself after eating, drinking and weighed what I did yesterday morning. So maybe I have lost some. I just got on the scale without thinking. Then after I was on, I realized what I was doing!!! lol

When I go to the gym, I lose weight. Then if I can't make it, I gain. I think I do that bc when I go I eat better. But then when I get back to the gym I have bigger losses.

Maybe it's the change in routine that sparks the weight loss.

I'm cooking dinner right now. Making a turkey tenderloin. Anyone try it? It's so yummy! I buy it smoked with garlic and other seasonings on it. Mmmmmm

Afterwards, off to the gym I go! :D

I'll check in later!
