Any over 40's out there!
You know you hear it all the time. "The older you get the harder it is to lose wieght." or "It will caught up to when hit your 30's" It is a well known fact that as your metabolism slows down. I've only been on this website 4 days and I have looked around some but didn't come across anything yet for some of us older ones trying to lose wieght! I was just on find your twin and noticed that mostly younger crowd signing in there. Couldn't go through 90 pages to find some my age. Thought I'd start a thread to find a buddy of similiar age and stats geared to motivate those of us with the Age challenge.
So here is mine
AGE: 45
Height 5'3 or 5'4 (been a while since I measured my self)
Wieight: 206lb
Build: Large (I think by the wrist test)
Weight Goal:135 -
Non Weight Goal - Working out 5 times a week doing at least 30-60 minutes of cardio or swimming and weights 2-3 times a week for 40 minutes,
Anyone out there that is similiar and would like to work at motivating each other!
Hi everyone,
Glad to see this post, I am in a weight group right now and everyone is in there 20's and although I have gone through some of the same things as them it happened to be before most of them were born......UGH
I am 42
6 kids - 23, 2-22 year olds, 17, 15, 11
3 grandchildren - almost 3, 2 almost 2 years old
Married , 2 jobs, workout 6 days a week - Jogging three days a week and then swimming and the other 3 is exercise ball, weights and crunches
SW - 235 (two years ago)
SW on CC in April - 165
CW - 153.5
Bea - those thumbprint cookies have icing on top. They are still here! :(
Cath - I started at around 235 in October and I'm hanging around 177-179 right now. And your current weight is about where I'd like to end up. I'm looking at weighing about 147-150 when I'm through losing. What is your goal?
Since I can't seem to stay off the scale I've been writing down my weights since sunday and I'll just average them at the end of the week. So far my average is 178.3 for 4 days. Not too bad.
well, off to the gym! Have a good night! :)
Hi momof2funykds
Sorry about that my goal weight is 135 for now, I am medium frame so I think 135 will look good. I also weigh myself daily, early in the morning before I have eatten or drunken anything and this morning it was 153.5. I was so excited, I got off and then back on again to just make sure. Sometimes my scale is evil and lies!!!! LOL
A 58 lb lose is GREAT!!!! Great luck to your goal weight!!!!!
Have a good night also!![]()
Hi pjlittlefr & others,
I'm new on CC. I'd like to join your group too. Have read some of the posts - looks like a great group!
I'm 46, weight 203. Height 5'6". No excuses - my "kids" are 22 and 19. So no baby fat here. Short-term goal 175 - and then I'll set the next goal.
Let's see -- denial, procrastination, just plain like to eat! I'm a yo-yo'er ~ I'm down 17 lbs. since January but I had put on 40+ in a very short time when I hit menopause. I want to fit into my clothes again. It's coming off so slow!! Very frustrating.
These forums are helping. There's another one for over 40 year-olds that I've also joined.
I wish everyone well! One day at a time.... ![]()
Welcome aboard cinzia2008
Great success for the future!!!!
Welcome to the group Cath and Cinzia! I'm new here too, but the ladies here have made me feel right at home.
Now Tammy, as for those cookies...what's wrong with icing...other than the calories. ;) You have willpower girl, I would have either eaten them by now or tossed them into the trash!
Today's gonna be a good day...woke up, went for a 3 mile (one hour) walk, and still have loads of time to do some shopping! Still trying to gear up for hiking. It's amazing how much stuff one needs just to wander around in the woods. Hubby and I are considering joining a hiking club...anyone know of any hiking clubs on Long Island? Anyone a member of a nearby hiking club?
Have a healthy day! ~Bea
Good Morning clangworthy and Bea,
Thanks so much for your comments. Hope you both have a great day too.
You and the other over 40 y/o's on this thread are an inspiration to me! ![]()
Tammy - I agree with Miss Bea If those cookies were in my house they wouldn't have lasted a day. I have NO self control. good for you!
Welcome to all the newbies - this is a great group. I'm having a pretty good day today. Got out to the gym at lunch time. I have a lot of running around to do tonight so I'm hoping to burn a few more calories! I'm hitting numbers now that I haven't seen since I was 20 so its getting pretty scary. I'm still about 8lbs away from getting out of "slightly overweight". My biggest goal now is stay FOCUSED!!!
Hello everyone! Well, those cookies got to me! I ate 3 of them yesterday! but no more!
Welcome cinzia! I'm kinda new here too. I really like it.
At the start of the week, I've come to terms with my obsession over the scale. So I decided to write down my weight and then average it for the week. Well, I've noticed since sunday my weight has increased by EXACTLY .4/day. I started at 177.6 on Sunday, which was the lowest I've been so far and now I'm up to 179.4. I sure don't wanna see 180 tomorrow.
I'm exercising, eating within my calorie limits and feel good. I drink over 100 ozs of water and definitely don't feel like it's water. It can't be fat bc I don't overeat. What could this be? I know fluctuations are normal, blah, blah, blah.... It's this strange .4 a day that has my mind boggled!!!
It's been a while since I looked at this post. I have lost 10 lbs since then but gained it back again. At 5'2" and 156 I need to drop about 25 lbs. As a teacher with the summer off you'd think I could get more done since I'm not working. Nope. Not motivated much at all.
Yesterday I walked in the woods with my husband. My hrm said I worked off 266 calories. I just got the monitor hoping it will push me.
About the cookies, my mother in law always sends us treats she makes. I can't throw them away but I hate that the kids are eating the sweets, too. Any suggestions with the MIL?
Peace, Sarah
If your MIL is anything like mine, FORGET IT. Nothing you say is going to stop them because they know better. Mine in fact, would just bring more cookies. I suggest you take the cookies, say thank you, give the kids 1 and then bring them to work. It will cause less stress.![]()
I agree with Missy, give the kids one cookie each, and take the rest to work. That way, it's a win-win situation for everyone involved, and your co-workers will love it, mine always did.
As for my MIL, she's wonderful...she's dieting too, it's my FIL that buys the cookies. Oh, and he buys the coconut macaroons! OMG do I love those cookies! New mantra..."There's almost 100 calories in just 1 cookie!!!"
We walked another 4 miles this morning! Hubby and I are both counting calories and walking/hiking together, it makes it much easier for both of us. If one of us wants to cheat, the other is there to administer a swift kick in the pants. He's like having my very own Jiminy Cricket living on my shoulder. ![]()
Have a great day! ~ Bea
Bea - That has to be great to have your hubby right there doing this with you.
Today I weighed 179.6! Good news, not a .4 increase again. Bad news, it was a .2 gain. GRRRR
I hope I weigh in tomorrow in the 178.somethings so I can keep my average of 178 for the week. Tomorrow is the last day of my weekly weights to average. Keeping my fingers crossed! :)
Wow! have I been neglecting my thread hosting duties! Sorry about that ladies and I guess we have a few gents too! But Anyways, I will try to do better! So here you go I am welcoming all you newbies to the thread. I have also added you all to my friends. If I missed anyone just let me know. It was not on purpose. I will posting an updat on monday again but just a real quick update. Since June I have lost 6 inches (mostly in my waist, hips, thighs and calves) and yesterday morning I finally did it I broke the 200 lbs barrier! Feels like a brick wall actually. But I weighed in at 199.6 Whoo! HOOOO!
So heres a how do you do to each of you newbies
Clangworthy - Welcome and Wow! 2 jobs and 6x week workouts! Congrats that's awesome! And grandchildren I am not there yet! My son is getting ready though for the big step! I expect to be hearing soon about an engagement!
ktjensen - Welcome and Yeah I love www.mapmy****. com I use mapmyfitness.com or mapmywalk.com for everything swimming, biking, walking, hiking, elliptic, weight training even aerobics and kickboxing, . I love my little fitness calander. I am weird, I know but I just love to see the icons show up on my calander when I log a workout. Plus the reports I can run to calculate my distance for the week, or since I began, etc. Awesome website!
lakemom - Welcome and Wow! 6 kids and such a spread in ages too! Please take care that you are getting enough calories for nursing needs! There is a pregnancy forum and lots of articles on this website. Maybe you could hop on over there and see if there might be any info about how much you need and how much you burn for nursing! Good luck.
Healthy - Welcome to you too! Seems we have similar workout goals. Let's keep each other motivated!
Sandyarmstrong - I agree with the others set smaller goals. I only stay motivated when I have small achievable goals. In fact I am looking at downsizing some of my work out goals because with my current schedule I am finding it hard to achieve some of them. It soooo helps to see yourself hit the target. The target is not the point but hitting it helps us to continue setting goals. All journeys begin with the first step. I wish I was in wheeling WV, I would so be there for you! (I love WV - I have lots of relatives in WV - but they are all near BEckley Charleston etc) Anyway, here's my suggestion - if you can't find someone to walk with set yourself up with your favorite music, get an mp3 player, cd player or am/fm radio what ever and some earphones and go for it. For the longest time I did audio books. I would get them for free from the local library and I'd go walking with them. I would get so involved in the story that I'd forget I was walking never mind that I was walking alone!
Miss bea- Welcome and I would look on line for a hiking group there are lots of them out there. Glad to see you and hubby are doing it together that is so helpful! I love hiking wish I could do it more but I always need such a long recovery time. (I get blisters every time and they are so painful) Maybe when I get down under 175 I will be able to do more of it. I still try to walk/hike 2-6 miles a week usually on the weekend. But I get more benefit on my elliptic because I don't need 2-3 days for my feet to recover. 3hours is awesome for hiking. You can really drop the pounds if you do that consistently!
Cinzia2008 - Welcome and I love your no excuses mentality! Ummm! Wish I was better at that! I will use anything. Even baby fat that's over 15 years old! Hope you find some encouragement and buddies here to encourage you all! Check back frequently!
So now that I welcomed all the newbies (I hope I didn't miss anyone) heres to some of you "thread veterans"
Momof2funykds - Congrats on all the working out. Yeah you should really measure though because your increases could be because muscle weighs more than fat and you are doing weights now and working out. You may be just be doing some remodelling so to speak. Doing your measurements just gives you another calculation to go by! I love that I've lost 6 inches. It is so motivating. Even though I've only lost like 2-3 lbs I saw the change in the inches first and then the weight started coming off. So Yeah definitely measure and by the way 3 cookies - not so bad! If you count it - it isn't cheating. I like to think about it this way before cc I might have eaten the whole lot 10-12 cookies! I don't think we should be so restrictive that we can't enjoy life! Know what I mean. Hubby got them for you so eating one or three in love is nothing to feel guilty over. Besides guilt is the path to the dark side! LOL!
JKPPT - Congrats to walking 45 minutes. Are you on vacation think I missed that? If you are don't worry about your scale difference just focus on loss/gain and making mostly healthy choices. Oh yeah and don't forget to live a little and enjoy your time with your friend!
Stilltrying - Oh how I love food pushers! They never go away! We just have to get smarter in dealing with them. Since your not working (TEACHER!) bringing them to work is out but I agree with the others give the kids a couple when MIL first brings them in and if you feel you can handle it and count them have one yourself. However, after she leaves the trash is the best option! Unless, you know of a skinny neighbor that needs them! Then you can graduate to being a food pusher in your own right! LOL! When/If MIL all you need to say is "Oh, yes thank you so much the kids enjoyed them so much!" She doesn't need to know they didn't eat them all!
MissyKris1 - I hope you have recovered from your experience with your friends. Don't let them get to you! Some people wouldn't notice a snake if it bit them on the nose. Your scale is telling you the truth and you know you've lost. It doesn't matter if people are not attuned to it your body loves you for it! You are getting healthier with each choice you make. So keep going and don't let peoples poor observation and lack of attention to detail get you you down!
There! I think I've got everyone! and set a world record for longest forum response! LOL!
Can you believe I didn't have a chance to weigh myself today! What am I gonna do??? hahahaha Just joking! I got up and went to yard sales with a friend. It was so much fun and it got pretty hot, so we went to her office in the AC to cool off for a bit! lol Didn't find much. There were so many too!
So it looks like I'll be taking tomorrow's weight for my last day of weigh ins to average out my week. And just use the weight for two days!
Hope everyone has a nice weekend. Suppose to have storms tomorrow. BOOOOO!
Thanks for the ideas for the food from MIL. School is a great place to take food. I only have 4 more weeks until I go back! There is always so much food at work. Last year we had a guy who would bring baklava (sp?) at least once a month. My weakness!!! It was hard to resist.
I have been doing 30-40 min of exercise every day for about 4 days now. No budge on the numbers of the scale but I hope it moves soon. I bought a heart rate monitor last week and, right now, it's a fun toy to motivate me. Let's hope I can keep it up!
Good Sunday everyone!
Peace, Sarah
Hey everyone, Hope you all are having a nice weekend. Remember to enjoy! Try to do some moving, some counting, some relaxing and some laughing!
Sarah - I love baklava. It's real good! I haven't had it in years though. But I know if it was offered, I'd accept it with my hand out!!! lol
Nothing planned for today. Just having a relaxing day. Chance of a thunderstorm today, but it looks nice outside. Opened the bedroom window and there's a nice breeze coming in.
well, check in later with you guys. :)
Hi all,
Just checking in. Welcome to all the new folks!
Had a great time in Saskatoon but a little scared to get on the scale and will wait until Thurs to weigh in. We had a great time at a festival called "A Taste of Saskatchewan" which had about 30 restaurants each offering 3 of their own specialties. Tried to be good and having my friend there made it better as we shared each others and the portions were small to begin with. Anyone ever had poutine? I may have misspelled this but it was dangerous stuff - LOL
pjlittle -Don't worry I very much enjoyed my time with my friend. She is the one who really gets me to go out of my comfort zone. She arranged for my first riding lesson ever. I had never been near a horse before much less on one. I had such a great time. Down side was that my foot got in her way on the walk back to to stall and she stepped on it.
ouch
I was lucky as I think she did not break anything but boy am I bruised.
As I had to stop all the walking because of my foot, I discovered on vacation that I like water aerobics. I have done it here a few times in the winter but the pool was always so cold and getting out into the cold after was not fun. They have city funded pool/workout centers in Saskatoon that have great indoor pools. You join just like you would the "Y" but you have access to all the city facilities (5.) The city is small enough that you can get from one side to another in about 20-25 min so you are never that far away from a site. The pool was the perfect temp and the exercise was so much easier on the joints. My friend and I made it 4 days last week. I am going to try to get into the "Y" here to see if their facilities are as nice and comfortable.
That's all for now ae are about to have a storm and I need to sign off-
Jen
Hi All,
I have to confess...I'm not the one with the willpower, it's my best friend that keeps ME on track. If it wasn't for hubby, I'd still be the couch potato I've always been. Today, we were up and out by 7am for a 10k walk, which I surprisingly survived! What a blessing to have a partner to share your ups and downs, and the inevitable frustrations that come with trying to lose weight.
I hope you all had a great weekend. ~ Bea
