Any over 40's out there!
You know you hear it all the time. "The older you get the harder it is to lose wieght." or "It will caught up to when hit your 30's" It is a well known fact that as your metabolism slows down. I've only been on this website 4 days and I have looked around some but didn't come across anything yet for some of us older ones trying to lose wieght! I was just on find your twin and noticed that mostly younger crowd signing in there. Couldn't go through 90 pages to find some my age. Thought I'd start a thread to find a buddy of similiar age and stats geared to motivate those of us with the Age challenge.
So here is mine
AGE: 45
Height 5'3 or 5'4 (been a while since I measured my self)
Wieight: 206lb
Build: Large (I think by the wrist test)
Weight Goal:135 -
Non Weight Goal - Working out 5 times a week doing at least 30-60 minutes of cardio or swimming and weights 2-3 times a week for 40 minutes,
Anyone out there that is similiar and would like to work at motivating each other!
We had a terrible storm today! The winds were scarey. I know there has to be trees down in places. Will have to watch the news tonight to see what they say.
Averaged my weights from last week...178.8 was the total. On the 11th, I weighed 180. So I lost some. Hope to get my weights down this week with some luck! Todays weight was 179.8 though. But I had a sub yesterday (only a 6") but lots of sodium though.
Hope everyone's weekend was good! :D
Hi,
I hope everyone has had a nice weekend.
Here in Portland, OR the weather has been great - you have to savour these days for the really horrible rainy cold weather about 5months per year.
Last night we went to a concert by this great local singer, Stephen Ashbrook - if you like folksy / rock story telling type music he is your guy. He told some great stories. His stuff is on iTunes and we were really to happy to see him again!
Today, we woke up @ 6AM and headed to the Columbia Gorge - it's a beautiful area outside Portland where the Columbia River has created steep cliffs and beautiful vistas. We ran down a Mountain and then headed up another mountain and then down again to our car. - we dropped one car at the top. Running down should be nice, right - NOT... It just kills your quads and knees so I have refined my stride so my hips take some of the stress.
Then we got to run up hill -- 45 minutes - up hill - I mean uphill. Really uphill - every time we hit a switch back there was MORE!!
Then we got to some meandering trail. On the run we had to cross rock slides.
The last bit was steep down hill and my toes were pushing against my running shoes, ouch...
Finally we reached the parking lot.
12 miles. 902 calories. 2:54 mins
We went to a nice restaurant and I had a healthy lunch but more lunch than I normally would have eaten..
I still have not weighed myself... Working on that one...
I'm part of this crowd too:
- male
- 42
- 3 kids
- 220 lbs
- Target weight: 170 lbs
- Target date: June 2009
I hope to find an empathetic buddy who knows and can support me on two things:
- how dieting affects my emotions: my body confuses hunger with sadness
- staying motivated in the face of temptations (parties, friends, etc)
Thank you.
Hello All,
Hope everyones week-end was grand. I kept pretty busy this week-end but didn't actually realize until Sunday that my deficit on Saturday was over 1000, not good but sometimes I forget to eat on the week-ends unless of course I am sitting around then I can't think of anything else to do.
Welcome Phantombrother, hope we can help with your qwest.
Thanks for the welcome pjlittlefr, I do keep myself pretty busy, sometimes not by choice but you do what you have to do.
Great success to all this week.
Hey! Just joined today. I am 41 married with 3 children ages 19,16,9. I am trying to lose weight again. About a year ago I actually succeeded losing from 188 to 149. Wow. I know but I am an emotional eater and lots of stressful things happened to me causing me to gain back to 168. So here I am, nice to talk to someone my age, believe me we can lose weight, it is just a mind thing. That is my problem, my mindset is not right, it is so much easier to conform to what everyone else expects of me instead of what I expect of me. If I can get my emotions in tact, I believe I can succeed. For that matter so can everyone else. I wish you the very best at your weight loss goal and remember YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!
Good mornin' Everyone!
I hope your weekend went well.
Tammy-I know what you mean about the sodium...processed foods and restaurants are evil!
Welcome phantombrother, glad you decided to join us. I'm sure you'll find this group very supportive.
Cawilder-I'm so jealous! Running through the canyons sounds lovely, of course I'd rather walk, I'm quite a wimp. And you treated yourself to a restaurant...I haven't been out in more than a month! I figure it's safer that way. Although, I'm hoping to enjoy a night out with a sushi dinner(I know...tons of sodium!) and possibly a movie before I head for Arkansas. My mom's have a knee replacement and I'll be on nurse duty for a few weeks. :(
This morning we went for our 2 mile walk at 3.5mph, not bad considering we usually average 3mph. What bothers me is that we barely missed 4mph, that was our goal for this morning. Tomorrow...4 miles, but not at 4mph...LOL That's too much for me right now.
Take care, and have a fun afternoon! ~Bea
This weeks goals:
Make it to the "Y" 5 days in a row.
Break 140 lbs.
Welcome to the newcomers and am looking forward to getting to know you.
Hello! I'm so glad there is a place for us...I just turned 49 in June. I desperately need motivation--again--I was doing ok for a while and then, well, you know the rest. It really does seem harder to lose weight as I "mature".
My goal is to get back into the routine of working out first thing in the morning, and to feel comfortable in last years summer clothes (I fluctuated between 133 and 138, and now I'm up 15 lbs.
)
Thanks everyone!
Hi everyone and Welcome to the newbies! Hope you like this group of people!
Went to the pain dr today and all went well. No long wait, for a change. Waited an hour, but considering I once waited 4 hrs....
Weight DOWN today!!! The 2 lbs I gained all last week in the .4 increments, is almost gone. I lost 1.6 lbs over night! I'll never understand this weight loss stuff!
Great job momof2funykds. I still don't understand the whole weight loss thing and I have been doing it forever (feels like). Glad things went well at the pain doctor.
Hi Kathleenie, welcome aboard and Great success for your goals.
Yeah lakemom.
Great job miss_bea, 2 miles is awesome.
Have a Great week all!
Hi and Welcome to Kathleenie! I'm sure you'll feel right at home here, I know I do!
Tammy~ Congrats on the weight loss and good to hear things are alright with you...kudos to hubby for being there for your support! That's so important in a partnership.
Thanks Cath~Actually, 2 miles is our easy/short day. We also do 4 mile walks and on the weekends we walk 6.2 miles (10k).
ARRRGGGG!...Now hubby's talking a 10 mile walk...HELLLLPPPP! LOL I thought my feet and back were hurting before...after about the third mile the body goes into auto-pilot, at least mine does. The weird thing is...I'll be fine, droning away the steps and then BOOM! ... I'll see MY street...all of the sudden...it's like I've just gained 400 pounds...what is that?!? It makes me crazy.
So, yes, today was the 4 miler...hubby woke me up at 6:30 so we could get a head start on the heat...good thing too, it started to rain just a few minutes after we returned.
Well ladies, have a great day and do something nice for yourself! ~Bea
The 1.6 lbs I lost came back with a vengeance! Weighed in this morning and was UP 2 pounds! I'm ready to throw in the towel....
I slept 15 hrs last night, yep, sure did! Guess I was tired from my day yesterday. So, up in weight, but well rested at least.
Going for the 1st of my walks today.
Have a nice day! :)
EDIT: Went for 2 walks = 3 miles for today! YAY!!! Burned 350 calories....
Ooh, I didn't realize there was another 40+ group! Let me give my stats.
age: 46
height: 5'1"
SW: 163 CW: 155.5
build: medium? I have *really* tiny hands, so using my finger length to determine my frame is sketchy at best. I always thought my frame was small - I have tiny wrists.
goal 1: 135
goal 2: 120
I've been on CC for 2 months now, and I'm losing at the nice, slow rate. I've already lost 3 inches on my waist and hips, so I'm definitely firming up.
Welcome axejudge and Happy Wednesday all.
Got a quick question for my favorite people, does anyone know of an all over fat burning routine or exercise you are willing to share? Right now I am really feeling the Humpty Dumpty effect as my legs aren't that bad, my arms are coming along but the spare tire I am carrying around makes the Micelin Man look HOT!!! UGH
I know you can not target exercise but if I could find something that targets everything that would be great.
Currently I jog/walk on Mon. Wed. and friday and when it isn't raining I swim afterwards, on Tue. Thurs and Sat I do the exercise ball, bum crunches about 90-150 ab crunches and weights? I have a desk job from 8:00-4:30 but I make sure I get up and move about 2 miles per day at work, I also work from home in the evenings so I am pretty busy, my day starts at 5:00 am and usually ends around 11:00 pm.
Any suggestions
Hi all and newbies,
OK, I am out of 190's - the smallest that I have been in quite a while...
I actually faced the scale this AM and it said 189.6, woo hoo and that is with my little chocolate attack last night. I can't seem to get enough chocolate when it is that time of the month. Golly I wish I could change that but I am a woman possessed when the Chocolate Witch takes hold.
On exercise I use New Weight Lifting Rules for Women (or something like that) I love it. It is hard at teh beginning but it is great! I am getting much tighter.
My leg which got battered last week running when I fell on a trail is healing but it is nasty! It is at the itchy healing stage and driving me crazy here at work.
Take care y'all.

Great job!!!! Are you just totally excited. I Love breaking whole numbers. LOL
I wish my chocolate attacks were just reserved for that time, unfortunately I never know when they are coming but when they are here you know!!!!
Great Luck with the lifting for woman!!!!!
Congratulations ladies for your losses! I also lost this morning, there must be something in the air...Whatever it is, maybe if we don't breathe too hard it will hang around a little longer!
I have a confession to make, actually two:
- I hate chocolate!
- I don't have TTOM anymore.

I didn't like chocolate even when I did still have that nasty thing chasing me down all the time. Thank goodness for gynecologists! Mine was such a dear and fixed me all up, never to worry about the wearing-of-the-white-jeans ever, ever again!
Have a great night, and stay outta the chocolate! ~B
Hate chocolate! I can't imagine not having chocolate once in a while! lol
I walked 4.4 miles today. Had to break it up, and take pain meds, but I did it! That's the furthest I've walked in 3 yrs bc of my back and leg pain. Maybe I'll get up earlier tomorrow (b4 noon!) and try to get in another mile. TRY to anyways. :) Ended up with a deficit of 1050 for the day. Not bad!
HATE, HATE, HATE chocolate! It makes my throat itch! Maybe I'm allergic? Anyway, the girls I used to work with loved that I hated chocolate...More for them!
OK...everyone needs to plug your ears, I'm going to sing and it ain't gonna be purty! "Rain, Rain go away, Miss Bea needs to walk today!" See, I told you to plug your ears, but did you listen? NOOOOOOO...LOL I need a walk! It's rained here the last couple of days and this morning I was up by a pound.
And....the weather forecast says rain all next week too. BooHoo! Enough ranting...
Yay Tammy! 4 miles is a nice little chunk of pavement! You go girl, I think I saw a tiny little black dress hanging in the mall with your name on it. ![]()

1. Heretic!
I agree with your former co-workers - more for the rest of us!
2. Same here. I actually was drawn to white pants and skirts when TTOM was coming; it was a (pardon) red flag to warn me to be prepared. I was so miserable when TTOM came around; since I was so sick from endo, and didn't want to have kids, my gyno removed the source of my agony when I was only 28. Best decision I ever made. ![]()
Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
