What do you do to overcome the night cravings?

Quote  |  Reply

Hey guys! I have a little bit of a problem. I do great on my calorie counting and eating habits during the day but when dinner time arrives I only crave carbs (bread, cereals, etc.) and I binge eating all those things!!! I end up being mad at myself for that and feeling depressed and even disgusted with my own self. Needless to say I feel like such failure because my overpassed my calorie goal intake and instead of loosing weight and even put o some weight. I begin each day repeatin to myself that it won't happen again, but when the night comes the same story reapeats.  Any advice to avoid this??? HEEEEEEEEEEEELLPPPP!!

Sounds like you aren't eating enough during the daytime. When I crave a bunch of carbs for dinner (or if I binge) it usually means I haven't eaten enough for the rest of the day. Have a big breakfast with lots of protein, and have small snacks when you feel hungry. Don't let yourself become ravenously hungry!

Like elfkittie said, make sure you are eating a balanced diet of carbs, fiber, fat and protein throughout the day.  Once I did this, my craving for carb type things decreased to where I could control it.  And I almost always have an egg or two, or some cottage cheese, for a snack before bed (high in protein).

The other thing is to give yourself healthy options for these things you crave.  100% whole wheat choices are good.

i leave a few hundred calories for the night times, as i crave carbs and cheese all the time. then after that i crave sweet stuff!!! what can i say, all that makes my world go round!

so i leave myself some leway for the evenings. Doesn't work all the time, but it does the majority of the time, and that works for me.

good luck XX

I always make sure that I have 200 calories extra left over for the day and then I say I am not eating past a certain time at night.  Usually its like 10pm but that changes to 11 pm but never later than that.  I believe as long as you dont go over your calories for the day you can spread them out as you  like..

i agree about eating more carbs during the day.  plan them out before your crave them, so that you are less likely to binge on them.

As for a late night sweettooth, i find tea to be my best friend.

i always leave 200-300 calories to eat at night .

mushroom with tuna , or loads of fruits..and after that i drink 1-2 cup of green tea..cause green tea block your hunger ! so it really helps me.

last night i was craving grub, so i had half a red pepper filled with low fat cream cheese and tomatoes. did the trick!!

I will definatelly try all of what you guys are suggesting. It does have sense about the balance carb load. I will definatelly try the protein at night, and that red pepper filled with low fat cream cheese sounds amazing monkfish998!!! I might have that tonight!

Laughing thank you all for the support. And let's keep it up. it does help to know that I am not alone at this task.
