Overcoming the Binge: TIPS!

Quote  |  Reply

Hey Everybody,

I've been doing awesome lately with NO bingeing! Seriously, it's been since Christmas, I think. I feel so much more relaxed and better about myself. So I want to share with you all some tips I have to overcoming bingeing habits and I hope that you will all share yours too!

1. Treat day! - I'm maintaining, but once a week (and only once) I allow myself a treat. I eat normally throughout the day and then in the evening, I treat myself to whatever I want! I was really worried about doing this initially because I was worried I'd go WAY over and binge, but instead I just have my treat and don't go insane with food because I plan it out and enjoy it!

2. Distraction! - I'm usually prone to bingeing when I'm procrastinating but now, rather than indulge in a guilt-fest, I'll procrastinate with different tools, ie watching TV or going out for a coffee. Call somebody. A nice hot bath!

3. Stay out of the house - During the day, I go out. I go to the swimming pool, to the library, coffee or tea, long walks... It's really fun. If I have homework, I take it out. Today, I went to the museum to change things up a bit - it was great.

4. When a craving hits, opt for a healthy but similar alternative - If you feel like snacking, try veggies and salsa or an apple and banana chopped up with cinnamon.

5. Get those pesky trigger foods out of the house! - For me, this means no more peanut butter or nutella. These are not bad foods, but I can't control myself around them, so I'll have some toast and pb when I go out.

6. My mouth likes to be occupied, and I think this is half the problem. So on hand, I have celery, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower - any veggies i can get. And I snack on 'em and don't count them. They're necessary. A variety of teas and flavoured coffee is great too.

7. If you play an instrument, for god sakes play it! You know what they say about idle hands? I've found that picking up the guitar (I play classical) has helped me oodles. I hadn't played in years before now... blessing in disguise.

So that's all I can think of right now. I guess I'm just feeling so much better about myself since the binges have eased off and I wanted to share some tips that are working for me.

Share away!

Do you think that the lack of binging is also related to the fact that you are on maintenance?
I doubt it. I was on maintenance when I started bingeing. I gained five pounds! but I've since realized that those five pounds need to be there.

THANK YOU JULIA !!

VERY Timely Cool I've printed and posted your tips !!

Good for you, Julia, you're listening to your body instead of being hung up on the numbers!
