Overeating??!! Why do I do it??
I didn't have time to make myself lunch today so I ran to Taco Bell (I know, I know not good for calorie counting) I got myself 4 soft tacos and an order of nachos and cheese. After one soft taco and half the nachos I was full. I knew it. In my head I told myself to stop, but I didn't. I finished the nachos and the second taco and now I feel sick (prior to dieting I could polish off 3 soft tacos easy with no ramifications).
Why do I do this??????? Does anyone else do this??
yes. unfortunately i do it all the time. i actually just finished lunch but am staring down a jar of peanut butter even though im full. ugh the big thing is to move on and not let it ruin the rest of your day. im super bad about that..
I think we do things like this out of habit. The best thing to do is to try to make new, better habits to replace old, bad habits. Try to have some good snacks available for when you are super busy. This avoids waiting to eat until you are famished.
If you do get famished, try to order half as much as you think you want, eat it as slowly as possible, drink a big glass of water, and wait 20 minutes to see if you are still really hungry. If you are, you can always order more food, no?
Most importantly, though, try to learn what you can from your experience today, but don't obsess about it, just move on. One meal won't hurt you unless you let it by giving up on your new habits. As one of the success stories said, seek progress, not perfection.
I know what you mean! I do it all the time. But I've worked on understanding why I do it and how I can stop myself.
For me, it's a combination of emotional eating and oral fixation (I know, sounds funny, but it's true). When I was little, I sucked my thumb. I usually have something in my mouth whether it be a toothpick or food.
What worked for me was chewing gum. Feel hungry after a meal? Pop in a Trident and distract yourself. Push it out of your mind, or put away the food you're wanting. Out of sight, out of mind.
I hope I helped. =)
Something that has helped me TREMENDOUSLY, about fixing this problem is brushing my teeth. CONSTANTLY. i brush my teeth after every meal and it works a lot like the chewing gum thing but toothpaste lasts so much longer than any piece of gum, plus its good for your teeth :)
I agree with ollej25 - brushing my teeth helps a ton. It gets the taste of any food out of your mouth and somehow eliminates the desire to eat something else right away. It's worth giving a try.
I 100% agree with this! I always brush my teeth at work because the minute I eat lunch I crave something sweet but after you brush your teeth you dont have anything but mint flavor in your mouth and it seems to cure the cravings.
I find that having the taste of the food still in your mouth makes you want more of it. Definitely agree with the brushing of the teeth.
I also do this......i think the reason i do it is because i am not really sure how many calories are actually in the "taco" so i just think what the hell i have ruined it today so why not have what i want.........still do it even though i know why =(
good luck =D x
Yeah I do it all the time, but sometimes the food taste so good that I feel that I would never ever get chance to eat something as good as this. So I eat a second serving. I think I feel the most guilty when I do that at night because at night, you eat, and then a couple hours later, you go to sleep. I wake up in the morning feeling so sick and nauseated. So now I made a goal. I won't eat after 4 pm. Its better that way.
You can actually eat at Taco Bell and keep to your diet, get your tacos "fresco styel", and try to just have 1 or 2.
I do the "oh well, I already failed thing too." Good planning can eliminate days like this. Like someone said earlier, ALWAYS have healthy snacks with you. I am pretty sure all fast food places are required by law to post nutrition facts now. Last time I checked, taco bell has it on their website. So if you do go to taco bell, get one of the healthier things. Pick the fast food restaurants you are most likely to go to, look up nutrition facts, and make a list of healthiest options to keep in your car so you don't have the guilt.
After I finish dinner in the evening, I plan out my breakfast and lunch for the following day. I then prepare the breakfast and lunch (as much as can be prepared ahead of time), and I also enter the data in CC. This really helps keep me on track, plus the next day when I am tight on time, my meals are already prepared...keeps me away from Taco Bell and the like!
Biggest mistake was ordering that much food to begin with. Sounds like you would've been fine just ordering a couple of tacos.
I have the same problem, if it's right in front of you, you're going to eat it. You can eliminate the problem by not having the food, or in this case the extra food, right there.
