Overeating - a question & rant

Quote  |  Reply

Eww. I feel a little sick. I've had wayyyyy too much chocolate today! The day started out good, but it's been like 1 1/2 months straight that I've counted and logged everyday, even when I went on vacation. So I needed a mental break. Needless to say, that was a major mistake. I was doing really good during the day, then I got out of work...after working overtime because one person called off and the other pulled a no call/no show. It was like this:

Breakfast (6am) - ham & cheese on crackers, coffee

Snacks (7:30am) - 3oz. chicken breast w/ 2 slices cheese

Lunch (4pm) - turkey sandwich, freeze dried berries, about 15 peanut M&M's

Snacks (5pm-7pm) - chocolate chip biscotti (probably like half the box Frown), crunchy cinnamon toasts (samples @ the store), 1 package of new M&M triple chocolate truffles, too many handfuls of chocolate s'mores granola

Dinner (7:30pm) - few bites of BBQ ribs (it looked good, but after cutting into it, it was mostly fat so i barely touched it..ugh wasted $10!), spinach and feta pie, BBQ baked beans, chocolate milk, a bite of macaroni salad

Dessert (9pm) - glass of skim milk, 1 1/2 slices chocolate cheesecake brownie (made with "no pudge" brownie mix and fat free cream cheese)

----------------------------

EDIT: To the best of my knowledge, I backtracked my entire day and wrote down everything I could remember eating and looked it all up. I came up with a whopping 4,280 calories. Surprised That's 2,400 over my maintenance for the day.

So here's my question! If I had a 3,090 deficit going on the past 2 weeks, and I ate this much today, will I have actually gained 3/4 lb., or will that deficit I had even things out and keep me the same weight? 3,090 - 2,400 = 690 deficit balance. Does it work like that? lol

The best thing to do after a day where you eat more than you intended is to draw a line under it and move forward as if nothing had happend.  Well, almost as if nothing had happened.....   You might want to look at your regular calorie intake and see if it is  too restrictive.   That can cause days such as you describe.  But if your intake is reasonable then go back to your usual routine.

Another thing you may want to take from the experience is that you should probably include a day where you consciously eat more than normal on a more regular basis.  Say once every two weeks.   This is a recognised way to keep weight-control lively, boosts the metabolism and is also very good for morale and motvation.

I do eat over maintenance, at least once a week. But it's usually only by 300-400 calories. lol My average intake is definitely not too low, I wasn't even hungry when I ate that much. It was the "taste" I was craving I guess. Even though I don't have those "off limits" rules. If I crave it, I don't normally deprive. lol

I feel a bit nauseous this morning, which sucks cuz I have to go to work and be around more food for 8 hours. LOL

Scale is up 3 1/2 pounds, which I *know* isn't all real, but one can't help but wonder if some of it is, or if my previous deficit saved me at all. lol

I recently started working out.. a lot. And I had a similar weekend to yours. I think I maxed out at 3700 calories one day (which is a lot for me, I usually stick in the 1500-1800 range). It kind of bugged me, but I've adopted a philosophy to listen to my body. For example, if my body needs potassium I crave bananas, or if I need protein I crave meat. Well I kept craving and kept craving and I wasn't filling up, despite of all my usual tricks. (Running, going and shaving my legs, cleaning the house) so I finally gave in and ate.

I just attributed it to a hard three weeks of working out and my stomach was like "hai, I need this and this and this and if I don't get it I'm going to gnaw your backbone raw". That was my first binge, and I've done great before the binge, and I got back on track the next day. I don't know, I hadn't had a problem with feeling hungry before.

See, that's my problem, I wasn't hungry. I just craved taste. lol Shame on me. There's no nutritional deficiency to craving chocolate chip biscotti and s'mores granola. LOL

I was so full and overstuffed, I even had nightmares of feeling ill...to which was also in reality because I woke up nauseous and ill feeling. Still, I must head to work! One would think after all I ate I wouldn't be hungry for hours, but there I was at 10am with that gnawing hunger feeling, which water wouldn't subside. (I had 2 glasses lmao) So I spontaneously bought the Kozy Shack ready grains oatmeal cuz it was marked down to 85 cents. lmao

As long as we're talkin' workouts here, I did just begin exercising again after a couple months of nada. But it's cheezy stuff that shouldn't even count like a 30 minute jog. On top of that I worked 45 hours this week, but I don't think any of it demands extra fuel. It's not that demanding.

MMmm... I just got off work now though, came home and felt hungry so I had some fresh figs and a piece of cheese to hold me over until I make dinner. So far the day is going well calorie-wise.

Ugh I know exactly what you mean by wanting taste!! Some food is so more-ish, you just can't stop until you actually feel sick. Mostly it doesn't make you full, just sick of sugar and fat! I am the same, once I start nibbling on sweet things its all over!

Don't worry, I think all your ahrd work will have paid off and you will slip right back into your routine and previous weight!

good luck! xx

Well today the scale has shown that I've lost all but 1 1/2 pounds from Sunday's indulgence-fest. (We shan't call it a binge! LOL) I'm hoping the extra 1/2 pound is still some leftovers, and although it'd be disheartening to have actually gained an entire pound in one day, it wouldn't be completely inaccurate nor surprising. Everything's an estimate - from my intake to calories burned, there's lotsa room for error and it would make sense. (although I try to overestimate calories eaten) If by the end of the week I'm still the same weight I started at, I think I'll jump for joy. Cuz jumping burns calories! hahaha (okay, lame joke) Embarassed
