Still overweight... but content?

Quote  |  Reply

I am not sure where I should post this but I see this forum being most fitting.

So right now I am 157lbs at 5'3". I am 18. I am classified as overweight but... I feel good about myself! I started at 170lbs more recently but my highest ever was 210lbs+. I went from a size 20 to a size 12 now, or 14 depending on the brand... my darn hips... Anyways, I feel fit. I can exercise longer now and actually like it, I walk from school now and I can even jog! But still I am classified as overweight. Is anyone else like this? I am wondering if maybe I gained some muscle because I feel fitter than ever. Last time I was at this weight I think I was a 14 sometimes 16.

My second rant, or whatever you want to call it is pants and jeans. I went shopping yesterday, tops are fine I can usually go in and get a Medium or Large and be fine. But pants, oh boy. Why can they not be universal?! I want to go into a store and pick up at 12 and know they fit but of course this isn't so. It makes me feel as though it's my body but realistically I believe it's the manufacturers. Anyone else two, or more sizes, depending on where you go?

Oh! But I did buy a pair of jeans yesterday! The first time I have bought jeans in awhile, I have been where khakis or sweats. I love them. They are DKNY slim/skinny. I know fashion gurus say big hip and big butt women shouldn't wear skinnies but I LOVE THEM. They fit so nicely. No jumping to get into them! They are so soft as well, I hate stiff feeling denim.

First off, congratulations on your weight loss so far. Smile It's great that you are not only feeling better physically but also about the way you look! As for the jean sizing issue, some clothing stores use vanity sizing so when you buy a pair of jeans from one store, it might be considered another size at another store despite the fact that the pants measure the same in the waist and hips.

For example, a size 2 pair of American Eagle jeans measures 25.5 inches in the waist and 35 inches at the hips. These measurements equate to a size 4 in a pair of Levi's! It's better to know your measurements so that you can look up size charts for different brands of clothing and get a good idea of what size you are.

I am 24yo 5'4'' and weigh 175lbs,  at this weight I am a size 12.  I am top heavy and feel my best at 165 which puts me at a size 10.  If I lose more weight than that people around me start commenting on the fact that I should stop losing weight and that I am looking too thin.  I am a 36ddd so I start to look funny if I get too thin.  So even though I am still technically overweight I feel fit and look  good at 165.

I am glad to see I am not the only one who feels this way! Laughing

I agree, I am still trying to watch my calories and lose weight, but I feel good about myself, and I feel attractive. I think as women, we need to try and love our bodies no matter what. I see women who are thin- by their weight and height descriptions- who still think they are fat and that makes me sad. I am 163 and 5'4" and my goal is 150, not the 130 that the program wants to put me at.

Kudos to you! Keep feeling good about yourself. You deserve it.

Hi Girls,

Congrats to you all on your successes - how good does it feel to look in the mirror and actually be happy with the person looking back!

I have to say, I am 5' 7'' and 150lbs. I often get discouraged being on this site and seeing girls who are my height bitching about how they are sooooo upset that they hit 130 or 132?!?!??! I cannot understand it? Am I just delusional about  the way I look? I feel that at 150 I dont look bad at all? Although I would like to get into the 140's - I just think that today's definition of beauty is highly skewed.

As long as we are happy, then who cares!

Happy and healthy, but I do agree.  I get concerned about people who are obese, eat constantly, don't exercise and say, "I'm fine with how I look so you shouldn't care."  I think as long as we are taking good care of our bodies and, for people like me, MUCH better care than I ever did previously, no one should complain.

You are also right on about today's definition of beauty.  Ugh.

Its sounds like you have alot of muscle! I was in weight lifting in highschool, I was 5'4 220 pounds when I started, size 18 and ended up being 5'8 175 size 14... also Iron Maiden, thats lifting a total of 500lbs in three lifts. Thats was the best! Remeber sizes are CRAP, always try em on, who cares what the number says as long as they fit great! I have never been smaller than a 14, even when I was trim and toned. I have always been "overweight" and my DOCTORS even told me I should weight no more than 135... I was like... where? Do you need to cut off an arm? or leg? Then I switched to a doctor who did BMI tests, not just weighed me. He just left his mouth open at my "gun show". Also remember protein is key to muscle maintenance! Being strong is WAAAAAY better than skinny! I used to carry my "skinny" friends around school and they still can jump onto me when we hug! You can be that super buff chic girls want tips from!

I would have to agree.  I'm 168 now and trying to get down to 130 but honestly I half expect to look in the mirror at 150 or 140 and decide theres no way I'm going lower.  I think in some way I actually looked better at my start weight of 180 then how I did at 130 in high school.  But then I hear a lot of people my height (5'4") talking about how they are now at a whopping 135 or so and have to get back to 110 or 120 and I wonder if maybe I just see myself strangely.  I certainly know that I would hate how I would look at 110 and am happy now at 168 and mostly losing weight to be a bit healthier and not to look different at all.
