Apparently because of a 'blow-up with a close friend'.

heard about it a few days ago.  i heard suicide, but then every where was saying dehydration.  i guess it's a confirmed suicide attempt?

He slashed his wrists and overdosed on pills. It's really sad. I always thought he was a happy person.

Just goes to show you, just because somebody LOOKS happy doesn't mean thay are (unfortunately). For anyone who is ever envious, just remember that! :(

Ok,not cool to trash talk someone who is willing to kill themselves....Owen has reportedly been in rehab twice before,and from unconfirmed sources hanging out with a known dealer.Drugs are not new to him and I hope he gets well.I don't think his performances have been stellar but no reason to kill yourself.No haha. Kate Hudson has been long gone and had nothing to do with it, come on.... the police dept has a transcript of the 911 call and his camp today has admitted to slitting his wrists...

The 38-year-old actor will not appear in the DreamWorks movie, already six weeks into production in Hawaii. Sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to comment, told The Associated Press that Wilson was to have a cameo role in the film. "Tropic Thunder" stars Jack Black, Robert Downey, Jr., and Ben Stiller, who is also directing.

Wilson was taken by ambulance to a hospital Sunday after police responded to a call about a suicide attempt at his Santa Monica home.

Wilson's next big-screen appearance is in "The Darjeeling Limited," slated for release next month, in which he stars with Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman. In an eerie coincidence, Wilson plays a distraught man ? bandaged throughout the film ? who other characters imply has attempted suicide....."hope it wasn't a PR stunt...

Wow lots of info, thanks. I was so curious.  I really love him and I think he is such a funny actor.  I hope he will be okay and make a great comeback.

 

On one hand I realize that people who honestly try to kill themselves probably have some untreated, deep rooted psychological issues. On the other it infuriates me because it's the single most selfish thing you can do. Obviously Owen Wilson isn't my family so it doesn't effect me other than I feel bad for all concerned with the tragic event.

Suicide is so boring....why would he try to kill himself?? He has tonsss of money! There is also the fact that he is going to end up dieing someday anyway....so why wouldnt he just sit back and enjoy things?? He could just sit around eating cake all the time and watching TV until he died if he wanted  (he would die sooner, but not as soon as he would if he killed him...and that way of dieing is probably a lot more tasty).

I doubt he reads these boards...and I really do think he is a bad actor o.O (and apparently someone that doesnt really think things through lol...how can someone fail at killing themselves??? Cry for help / attention...)

I once heard a japanese woman say "it takes courage to live and come courage to die."  I believe this is true, think about it.  We were born without our consent, but to kill ourselves takes lots of guts.  Poor Owen, I like his funny acting. I hope he gets well soon.  He has an illness and I hope he makes it alive.

Yes, i understand completely why he tried to commit suicide (at least, as much as is possible from the information provided). His mental illness is stupidity (that was kind of blunt :)... he is an unthinking person to reach the state he is at (drugs are just one indication)... that is his mental illness.

Just because he attempted suiced does not give him any immunity to comments on his acting ability...they are un-related....

You need to calm down... maybe walk around outside for a little bit...

If someone were to try to commit suicide that were close to me...it would have no effect on how i view these types of people. They are mentally lacking (oo, thats blunt again)... for anyone to sit back and think "oh no, life is so horrible, the ONLY answer is for me to kill myself", they are simply unable to think past their problems and life sittuations.

Im sure people close to him would not enjoy hearing that the person who almost died is stupid... but the reason has nothing to do with the argument, its simply that people do not like to think of anything negative about dead people (im not sure why, dodging reality probably).

His death or life has NO effect on his acting ability (care to argue this in your oh-so-elegant way?). His attempting suicide also has no effect on this.

His attempted suicide has also no effect on how i view his mental level. If he were successful, i would have still thought he was lacking.... if he never tried, well, then i wouldnt have had any cause to question his mental abilities.

You seem very hostile, but all your arguments are empty. You need to put more thinking into what you say instead of simply spouting off random things... (it makes it more interesting for me if there is a mind behind the words :(

Hah, that was a long video to watch until they revealed the secret attack! But i dont work that way... if no one counters, i just assume everyone agrees :)

Just a reminder that It must be really hard to always be in the public eye and have everything that you do and say in the news.
This is a very personal thread to me having lost a relative to suicide. 
A person has to be under a tremendous amount of stress to even consider suicide. 
Please treat this as a reminder to speak nicely about people, because if Owen or one of his relatives were a member here, I am sure that they would want our support and good wishes.

I'm going to kind of agree with Lorik here.

It's been 16 years since I have and I learned a lot in those years, but I somewhat understand what Lorik is saying.

I have also lost a relative to suicide and a friend to it.  I agree in some respects with Lorik.  I can't say that I think people who commit suicide or try to commit suicide are stupid because I know that these people weren't.  Stupidity has nothing to do with it, however, I do think that they lack vision.  For whatever reason they can't look past their problems and they don't realize what their actions do to their family and the friends that love them.  I would never say that killing yourself is brave.  It takes guts to live and to get through problems.  Killing yourself is something you do when you don't have the guts to do it anymore.

I also think Lorik is right, his attempt has nothing to do with his acting ability.  I'm not saying we should trash the dead or those with mental illnesses but you don't have to like everybody just because they've died or tried to commit suicide.  If you didn't like his acting before, it's ok to still not like it even though this happened.

That said, I hope he gets the help he needs and I wish only the best for him and his family.

i find it fun to always falla back on the fact that most people that commit suicide have a much higher IQ then the general content public they are around ^_^.

Anyone who commits suicide or attempts suicide is clearly not in the proper frame of mind.  This does not imply they were never sane, just that they temporarily lost their sanity.  They are in such physical or mental pain/anguish,  that they just can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. 

As far as Owen Wilson, I personally love the guy.  I think he is very funny, and cute too.  I'm so glad his brother found him in time.  My prayers go out to Owen and his family.  I'm so glad he is still with us, and pray he has a speedy recovery.
