How many packets of Splenda do you consume daily?
And how often (every day, twice a week, etc.).
The reason I am asking is because I've had some serious reactions to aspartame in the past, so now I am a little skeptical about trying sucralose. I do, in fact, already use sucralose, but not on a regular basis, so I am quite familliar with it. I also still consume aspartame on occasion, in very small amounts.
I think I am going to eventually switch entirely to Splenda, and I'm hoping your replies will help me decide on an "acceptable" daily amount.
Thanks.

I am too cheap to buy real SPlenda, but I am dying of curiousity. I'll be interested to see what people say....
I was (like an IDIOT) **shocked** to discover here that each packet of sweetener contains 4 calories!!!!
Living in southeast Kansas, our tap water is disgusting with a capital D, so I add a splash of lemon and a few packets of sweetener to make it drinkable, and since I am drinking approximately my body weight in water daily, that adds up to a lot. / : I did cut back on how many per huge glass of water, cut back in my oatmeal, cut back all over as I could, and I try now to guesstimate how many I have used by the end of the day and count those sneaky calories I always took for granted..... (I usually end up saying between 50-75 a day, calories, not packets!) ( :
SO girls, what's the word?

I average 1/2 packet a day, I think. Maybe 1.
don't think i've ever had any, unless it has been in diet desserts or whatever, but i try not too eat too many of those. I've certainly never added it to my food myself.
I am bad for it, i use the granular stuff and have 6-7 teaspoons a day.
Practically none. It's not natural so I don't have them at all unless I become diabetic. But my parents use a packet or two a day just for their coffee since my dad has diabetes. As long as they are using it in adequate amount, I wouldn't see any problem with that.
Olivia, why don't you try Brita filter or someting if your tap water taste that bad? It will refine the taste AND won't be Disgusting. (:

God, am I the only sweetener addict?
Maybe I need to seek help.....

No, olivia, I use massive amounts of it, too. I put 2 packets in my cereal, 4 packets in my oatmeal, etc. Don't worry about it.
I usually have 1 to 2 packets of Splenda a day. On days when I drink coffee, I have 2. Some days I don't have any, but this is rare. Does anyone think this is too much? I really hope it's not a bad thing. I'll probably keep using Splenda until someone proves that it's bad for you. It makes things taste so much better, without all the sugar.
good, rat! I was sort of worried......I really did cut back after I found out about the cal count, but god! I wouldn't be able to do it completely without the blue stuff!
I gave up coffee creamer for godsakes---sweetener too?
(lol)

Be aware, equal has 2 calories per packet. I used to use a ton of splenda, but then I found out it has 4 calories per packet. I was cosuming 100 or so extra calories a day. Yuck!
I have big packs of Splenda in my kitchen. I have the sachet ones and the granular ones. Use 2 sachet per cup of ea or coffee. And for maikng sweets, I use the granular ones.
This had been reccommended by my doctor when she diagnosed me with high blood sugar last year. Never have had any problems since I started using them.

Yeah olivia and hlraphael, I always factor the calories from Splenda into my daily intake. I too experienced the "shock" of learning it actually had calories some time ago.
my thoughts on this is don't think about it too much, it's just sweetener! Rather think about the calorie intake you're saving by not using sugar. And come on girls, 4 calories extra per day is not going to make you fat or kill you. Take it easy and rather concentrate on getting your daily allowance of veggies, fruits & water to stay healthy.
yeah i probably use about 10 a day maybe, give or take... and yes it does have calories, but it has 2 calories NOT 4... not much of a difference, but still those calories come from the carb content of the sucralose, but it is 'sugar alcohol' carbs which is a lower net count than a normal carb. Does that make sence? I hope so... but either way, an extra few calories a day will not make you fat, unless you are using like 100+packets a day... I wouldn't log it in your daily calories, unless you use A LOT of them.
i <3 splenda
...there is alot of talk about artificial sweeteners being bad for you, but i think that refined sugars are worse/addicting and can/will make you gain weight if consumed too much... thanx i'll stick to my splenda.

I have 1 a day so don't log it but if I was eating 10-20 packets you bet I would as that can make a difference (extra 300-600 calories a week).
Well I eat waaaaay too many. I had no idea that each packet had 4 calories! Time to stop that, glad I saw this post!
Zero... sugar doesn't have that many calories, really. I'd rather have the real thing, in moderation.
I used to eat a ridiculous amount of fake sugar. Somedays I had 10 packets (in oatmeal and coffee and stuff) plus the fake sugar in an entire pack of gum plus yogurt sweetened with Splenda. I've definitley tried to cut back because I would get ridiculously bad gas and diarrhea on days that I had so much fake sugar. My advice is definitely moderation.
I second the moderation advice. I'm not particularly worried about the caloric content of artificial sweeteners. But I was having a lot of weakness trouble, heard sucralose might be the culprit, and cut out ALL artificial sweeteners maybe a week and a half ago. Within a day, I was feeling great.
I've since snuck in a couple of diet sodas with no ill effect. I plan on occasionally using sweeteners, but nothing like before. On a given day I'd use two in my coffee, some in my oatmeal, sugar free (artificially sweetened) fudge bars, yogurt, crystal light, ...you name it.

And Splenda DOES have 4 calories a packet. i.e. 96 cals per cup, so I am much more conscious when I use it. I still do--in moderation--but I'm sad. (lol)
