How many packets of Splenda do you consume daily?

Quote  |  Reply
And how often (every day, twice a week, etc.).

The reason I am asking is because I've had some serious reactions to aspartame in the past, so now I am a little skeptical about trying sucralose. I do, in fact, already use sucralose, but not on a regular basis, so I am quite familliar with it. I also still consume aspartame on occasion, in very small amounts.

I think I am going to eventually switch entirely to Splenda, and I'm hoping your replies will help me decide on an "acceptable" daily amount.

Thanks.

Have you looked into Stevia? It is a natural sweetener. We have been using it in our home for quite a while. PUrchased at Whole foods.  It is concentrated so a little goes a LONG way.
zero.

i'd rather eat/drink unsweetened foods than use artificially constructed sweeteners.

when i just absolutely need sweetener, i use a little bit of honey. 1/2 tbsp is roughly 30 calories.
i use 10 at least every day....maybe more...3-4 for oatmeal, 2 for hot chocolate, 2 for cottage cheese, wow i use a lot, then 1 for any teas
Thanks everyone. I think I'll start with two to four packets per day, and see how that goes. I know I must sound crazy, but with all my sensitivity to aspartame, and reactions in the past, it is probably understandable why I am so paranoid.

Jellikal, Stevia? Is that sold in Canada? I haven't seen it, or haven't  noticed it at least.... but I'll be sure to look next time I go to the store. I've read about it on here several times, but never really gave it much thought. Thanks.
Ever since I watched the documentary Sweet Misery I have avoided aspartame and most other artificial sweeteners like the plague.  A friend of mine who runs a health food store told me that I would drop 10 pounds in a year if I did nothing more than eliminate artificial sweetners from my diet (and of course not replace it with massive amounts of sugar *grin*).  He seems to be right...I have lost weight with no other dietary changes.

But...I miss sweets.  I tried Stevia and couldn't get past the bitter aftertaste.  So I am using sparce amounts of honey and sugar...and trying to figure out how much I can tolerate without it affecting my health/weight.
I use Splenda A LOT! I have every since my husband was diagnosed with diabetes a little over a year and ½ ago. We buy a lot of products sweetened with Splenda, yogurt, pudding, Ice Cream, Jam, Soda?s?in fact seeing it on the label is a big selling point for us (So gawd I hope it doesn?t cause cancer or something lol) As for packets, well the husband has it on his strawberries every day. And it does amazing things for those berries. I usually cut up two containers of strawberries and add---maybe a ¼ cup Splenda---I?m eyeballing it so I?m not exactly sure. I buy it in the big bags and in the packets. He eats those for lunch all week and he never has any problems.

I also bake with it, ½ Splenda 1/2 sugar but haven?t been doing much of that this summer.  Before I started dieting I added four packets to my morning grapefruit juice---which I had about every morning, but I dropped the juice. When I have coffee I add it, but I?m not a daily drinker---But I do eat it daily in ready prepared foods. And I drink Cool-aid sweetened with it---I use the Splenda cool-aid packs---and now I?m wondering how many calories are in one of those, anybody know??? I typically drink ½ gallon of that stuff a day and I guess I need to be adding it to my calorie total.

BTW, I?ve never had any problems with it, but my best friend who has a history of severe migraines can?t have it because it brings on one of her headaches.

You are NOT alone!!  Trust me!  I am actually on the computer to find out what splenda will or is doing to me.  I'd be embarassed to tell you the amount of splenda I consume daily (mainly or really all of it in coffee - or even water and milk!).  I mean I consume so much that my tolerance level has gone up for sweetness. Like if I were to have a piece of chocolate cake - it would not be sweet enough for me.  I'm a recovering heroin addict (clean for 5 years) so I know that when your body becomes addicted to something - your tolerance level goes right through the roof - so you need more and more and more to get it to taste sweet enough foor you.  I swear it HAS to kill me without a doubt.  I mean - everyone knows that too much of anything is no good.  I asked my doctor about it and he has not heard anything I suppose because it is generally a new product.  I did read a few things that the ingredient in it is chlorine.  I believe your liver and kidneys can become enlarged.  I don't know I am still trying to find out before I kill myself!

I would like to hear from you - I see that your post was over a year ago and was hoping you were in the same predicament - I mean I don't hope that you are but IF you are - please email me.  I live in Manhattan and work in marketing.  I'd rather go through email - I'm not crazy about this site.

hope to hear from you,

Amy

i use 3 packets per cup of coffee and i have at least 2 cups of coffee a day, sometimes 3.. soooo i guess 6-9 packets

About 6-8 a day. Usually 2 for a cup of coffee, one for my morning oatmeal or some other dish.

I love Splenda. Never had any problems.

Hmm, I am more of a Sweet n Low girl (well like someone said they are too cheap to buy it, i get generic brand)

But between my Equal, Sweet N Low and Splendas maybe um 10 packets througout the day w/o any effects

I recently tried Truvia (a stevia spinoff) and its great, granulated just like real sugar and an awesome taste! You maybe want to give that a try its really good!

hmms, tried splenda once and had a horrible headache after that! but it tasted really good though. i've been using equal since last year and it hasn't given me any problems at all. & oh! i use the equal tablets instead of the packet ones since it's only 0.3cals PER tablet! :)
