Packing for College

Quote  |  Reply

Help! I am about to start packing for my first apartment in college, and I know that I am going to forget a lot of the little things. I don't know what to pack and I move in Sunday.

What are some things that most people forget to pack, or what's a good list?

dorm or apartment?
Go through a day in your life and write down everything you use. Then look around your room/house and write down other stuff that you use frequently. Don't forget cleaning supplies, kitchen stuff, bathroom, storage, etc.
Shower Curtain.
can opener
it's not likely the daily things you will forget - it's the things you do less often (or that your parents do for you?).

if you're moving into an apartment, make sure you have cleaning supplies, toilet brush, dish towels, laundry detergent, light bulbs, stuff like that.

a simple tool kit with a multi-driver, hammer & nails, a few wrenches, tape measure, etc.

and toilet paper!  whenever i move out of a place, i leave a roll behind, but not everyone is so considerate!
scissors/glue/tape i always forget that stuff!

honestly, you are bound to forget something. but that's okay. when i first went to boarding school, i forgot socks (which was bad, because they were required for the dress code), and a tooth brush (obviously, also bad).

after 3 years of living in a dorm, i went to college and forgot a laundry hamper.

lots of college bookstores carry many of the things you will need. chances are the things you don't have when you get there, are the ones that you currently don't own.

good luck packing, and most importantly, have fun!

Thanks... I totally would have forgot laundry detergent!
bottle opener!
Haha, right...can't forget a bottle opener!
Hey - I'm also going to live in a house at university next year! :) I just started making a list of things I need at my house. I'll give you what I have so far (it is long though!). Obviously, you can't pack everything, especially if they're big items (like a desk), but I'll list everything anyway:

Cutting board, cutting knife, cutlery, pans, pots, mixing bowl, whisk, spatula, ladle, plates, glasses, bowls, potato/vegetable peeler, potato masher, can opener, measuring cups, tuperwares, baking sheets, casserole dish, wooden spoon, dish towels, dish cleaning thingies, dish detergent, laundry detergent, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, toilet paper, kleenex, shampoo and conditioner, soap, toothpaste, mop, pail/bucket, broom, dustbin, vaccuum cleaner, lamp, bed, sheets, blanket, pillows, desk, chair, small table ("nighttable"), shelf (for all those textbooks!), microwave, toaster, couches, dining table and chairs, clothing hangers, printer (and ink), elastic bands, tape, scissors, binders, notebooks, writing utensils, calculator, erasers, paper clips, stapler, hole puncher, blow dryer, hair straightner, clothes, TV, alarm clock/radio/CD player, watch, memorabilia (got to remember your family!), toilet plunger, carpets (if needed) etc.

Wow, that's already a lot and I'm sure there are many things I missed... I have a feeling I will be in dire need of money by the time I buy everything. :( Anyways, hope that helped!
