Packing your scales with you on a trip over the holidays?
Good morning everyone. I had a fun weekend with my family who live in a different town than I do and ended up spending the weekend with them. My question to you may be a dumb one but I am going to ask it anyway.
With the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, Christmas and New Years holidays are you going to pack your own personal scales to weigh yourself while you are away from home? I will be staying with family for all three and weigh myself every morning to make sure that I stay on track and I don't want to add the extra stress by not having my scales with me to keep myself headed in the right direction of loosing weight (50+ pounds to go).
What are your thoughts? Am I being ridiculous?
Frankly, yes. Are you going to pack your scale every time you go on a trip for the rest of your life? No.
Be sensible over the holidays. Enjoy the time with your family, enjoy the food, just try not to go overboard. Then when you go home you go back to tracking. But even if you went nuts on Thanksgiving weekend, you're not gonna gain a bunch of weight.
Enjoy the time, and when you get home, get right back on the counting and tracking.
:D

Seconded!! :)
I cannot imagine packing a scale to take on vacation.
When you're taking scales on holiday with you then you have to take a step back and ask yourself if it's all going just a little too far.....
Nope. I honestly doubt I'm even going to be that strict on myself at Thanksgiving and Christmas. I only have on rule for myself: leftover sweets are a no-no. Pie, cookies, etc. I am not going to touch after the holiday is over.
Yup, i take my scale with me when i go home for the holidays. I dont mean seeing it jump up or down a lot though so it doesnt really stop me from enjoying myself and eating a little more during the holidays. For me its more about knowing my body and what it does in relation to how much i eat, not about trying to restrict during the holidays.
You must be kidding. Relax, enjoy your holiday. You don't have to be a glutton to have an enjoyable Thanksgivng. Enjoy the foods you like in smaller portions.
Since you're going to be staying with family, why don't you give them a call & ask if they have a scale you can use? It might be different than your scale, but if you weigh yourself the first morning, you can just try to maintain that weight on that scale.
And, I do mean maintain - I think it's a good idea to aim for maintenance over a vacation, and take any loss as a bonus. It's a vacation - relax & enjoy the food. Most people gain weight over the holidays, so just maintaining is an accomplishment. You can continue to lose between the trips.
I think it depends how long you will be there... Personally I'm going to stay with my family for 3 weeks so yes, I'll be taking my scale! But if it's just for a weekend I say leave it at home and enjoy the time away. If they have a scale, ask if you can use it!
ill be going to moms for 7 weeks,so yes im taking mine.what ever floats your boat.
I don't think weighing yourself everyday is going to help. Weight fluctuates so much on a daily basis... try sticking to once a week and just keep counting calories like normal. And I think it's a little nuts to pack your scale.
I have to say, no, I wouldn't take the bathroom scale. On the other hand, if they didn't have one, I'd be real tempted to take my wonderful kitchen scale, though would probably just buy a cheap one to take. I do weigh or measure everything I eat, unless it's on the packaging. I don't weigh myself every day anyway, so I could go without that scale. I would also make sure (in a nice way) that my hosts knew I was dieting so there would be no hard feelings about my declining to eat certain things. I do that with family get togethers, and they all understanding and are very supportive.
