Hi,
So, basic info: recovering from an ED, gaining weight consistently, BUT I'm getting this weird pain in my legs, around my shins. I take calcium/vitamin D supplements, but I still don't have my period (it's been 5 months now), so I know I'm at a greater risk for osteopenia/porosis.
My question is: could this pain be from my bones? Possible stress fractures? Could it be just shin splints or muscle fatigue? (I do some exercise- swimming and biking mostly, not excessively). What should I do?
Thanks!!
Depends on the type of pain (shooting, aching, dull ache, sharp pressure point) when it occurs (constant, during or after exercise, at night, wakes you up, in the morning then eases) and how long it lasts. By far the best thing to do is visit your doctor and explain the symptoms.
Given your very recent history, you shouldn't be exercising. You've been given an ultimatum that you get to stay in your parent's home if you gain weight otherwise you will be hospitalized, but this still means you need a physician, a psychologist and a nutritionist to be successful.
You need real professionals and you direct all of your concerns and questions to them -- including your issues about the leg pain you have at the moment.
Encourage your parents to become much more educated on eating disorders. Stop making deals with them and tell them you need professional support to stay at home and recover from a serious eating disorder. Best of luck.
