What to put on pancakes other than syrup?
My son got to pick anything for dinner tonight. He wants pancakes. I'm making them from scratch, but I want to save on calories by not using syrup. (We do only use real maple, but still...). What do you use, or what are some low-cal ideas? Thanks!
my husband and son both put jelly on their pancakes...it is actually pretty good...just an idea
I like sugar-free maple syrup (not as good, but okay). Blueberries are really good cooked-in and low cal. Yogurt would actually taste pretty good, I think.
Try pureeing some FRESH or FROZEN fruit that you can warm up and drizzle over the pancakes. Still sweet but NOT all of that refined sugar! :)
don't know if you can get it in the US, but i really like vegemite. (yes I"m australian) (about 5 cal per tsp, and you use really small amounts, not even a tsp for a pancake), kind of salty, and yeasty. Try first with really small amounts, but if you like it, you have a low cal toping for any toast etc
i put a teeny bit of butter & sprinkle some sugar on them!!! (of course u could use splenda!!!)
Changed my mind, I would just make one small pancake for myself with the real syrup and also make an egg white omlette too.
Mash up fruit or berries and put splenda over it. After it sits for a while, it'll get really juicy and you can put that over your pancakes.
Another good idea is whipped cream. It gets all melty and yummy.
And if you like cinnamon, take an apple, slice it thinly, throw it in a frying pan with butter (or powdered replacement, both work!), put splenda and cinnamon over it, and you've got some mighty good pancakes.

Hmm.... Well, I like fresh fruit, but frozen would work as well.
Some "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" spray, cinnamon, and Splenda tastes good as well...
Sugar free syrup is actually pretty good, too.

Applesauce!
I use fruit spread, like Polaner's. I love the Whole Foods Market brand of seedless blackberry preserves - 35 cal a tablespoon, and that goes a long way.
if you pick strawberries and have some frozen, microwave a dish of them until the are warm, but not too hot. the liquid is a great syrup and the berries taste great on top!
Good quality sugar free syrups have no more than 30 calories per 1/4 cup and taste exactly like real maple, with the same texture as well.
Lemon and sugar xD best thing in the world
I always put Yogourt on it!! Can't believe no one said that actually!
My yogourt is Yoplait Source Dessert 35 calories for 100g!! And it taste like dessert too. Cherry Chocolate is my favorite! You need to try it!

a little butter and some cinnamon and sugar (about 20 calories for a full tsp)
I love yogurt on my pancakes or waffles too. I use plain though and then a sprinkle of raw nuts and raisins and a drizzle of real maple syrup.
Man! Who would have thought there were so many great options!! Thanks, thanks!
It probably sounds really weird...but fat free sour cream and brown sugar. Not sure if splenda makes brown sugar...but go easy on the regular. I was very hesitant to try it at first, but it's DELICIOUS!!
I always add peanut butter (mmm protein pancakes!) and apple sauce on top. It's really good! Pretty much any berry or fruit will work just fine. Maybe a little honey on top just to sweeten it up. Or cinnamon. ALWAYS a fan of cinnamon! ;)
I love unsweetened applesauce on my pancakes!!
