I am just a few measly pounds from my goal weight and I look really good, my clothes on the other hand, look DUMPY. So much so, that my good friend staged an intervention and is making me buy new pants.
Initially I was excited, the idea of buying a smaller size has kept me motivated for the past two weeks. I had some extra time this weekend to shop for pants and was really excited to finally have some clothes that FIT!!!
I'm a student and have VERY limited funds so I head to Gap Outlet. In the past I have worn either a size 4A or 6A (A= ankle (shorter) length). It is the PERFECT length for me, I love them. You can wear them with heals or flats - they are fabulous.
So I find several cute pairs in size 2 (vanity sizing, but oh well, it makes me feel good) but none in a 2A. I asked the sales associate and she informed me that Gap does not make pants in "ankle length" below size 4. How stupid is that? Apparently only tall people have a size 4 or smaller waist. I was so excited to FINALLY be in a size 2 but no, Gap had to squash my dreams of bringing home a size 2 pant.
Old Navy was worse, WAY worse...every pair was WAY too long and the legs so wide that you could not see my feet, they all looked like bell bottoms and my profile resembled a 70's cartoon where the characters don't have feet, just really long legs and big pants.
In my opinion, Old Navy sizes run extremely large, and in fact continue to get bigger as Americans grow circumferentially. I fully expect the sizes to become fractional (0.75) or even negative ("Excuse me, do these come in a size negative 7?") I found ONE pair that looked decent and the legs had a smaller diameter than a size 7 shoe, but I needed a ZERO, I find an associate and they inform me that the style does not come in a zero.
The search continues....until then...I remain pantless.
yeah I find it both great and super frusterating that none of my clothes fit
I shop at express for jeans, I get the tall kind, but I know they make short ones as well so maybe try there? Good luck!
By the way... I'm a student as well... and with limited funds I've been happy with what Goodwill and the Salvation Army has to offer.
Couldn't you or a friend who is handy with needle and thread hem them? It isn't that difficult and it would solve your pants problems.
I clicked on this thread because I am having pants issues today too! I only have one pair of black work pants and they are pretty loose now, and WAY too big in the waist, but I wanted to wear them one last time before it's too warm for winter pants...I know they won't fit next year so last chance. I thought it would be ok as my shirt covers that part. Well. I am trapped at my desk now because everytime I walk around, my pants are shifting around on my body and catching on my shirt (they are velvet or something catchy) and twisting my clothes up on me. Guess it's the last time I wear these hehe. The solution? Skirts! They are a lot more forgiving, size-wise, so that is what I will have to stick to until I can affort new pants!
Good luck with your search for the perfect pants....it's tough work, I know...pants are always too big in the waist on me, no matter what.
NY & Company has AWESOME pants! They fit great and seem to be true to their sizes. I was in there over the weekend and they are having buy one get one 1/2 off. Go check um out!!!

I totally agree with shopping at Goodwill, Salvation Army, charity shops, thrift stores... I started off weighing 236 lbs, I have no idea what size I was since I just wore elastic waisted stuff but as I was losing the weight. I'm sure I was in the size 20 range. I spent maybe $2.00 at the most on a name brand pair of jeans, perfect length and all (and I'm 5'2"!) that I could wear until I needed to size down again. I've been stuck between size 12 and 14 for a while but these $1.00 Gap jeans are still holding up, I even bought a pair of size 10 jeans so I can have something to wear when I shop for more! :D That and they were having a sale on blue tagged items, 75% off. I think I paid a quarter for them.
I completely understand. I'm a small person, and neither Old Navy nor the Gap have sizes small enough for me. I once went in there (I'm also a student, and I needed some new clothes) and NOTHING fit me. S was huge, size 0 was HUGE, XS was inexistent in a lot of outfits. I really don't understand those stores. I mean, I know Americans are big, but... I've lived in the U.S. almost my entire life, and I just can't (and for god's sake, WON"T) keep up.
