Pantsize's?

Quote  |  Reply
Hey guys,

I have a question about pantsizes. I'll give you my stats maybe it will help, but I went school shopping the other day and bought 00 pants which fit me perfect now, but Im in recovery for anorexia and was wondering, will these pants still fit me 3-7 pounds later? I know I'm still needing to gain weight, so thats why I'm wondering. I dont know if it helps, but I'm 5'2.5, 13 years old, and female. I guess the main question is if I gain 3-7 pounds, can I still fit in the same pants? Or, How many pounds will make you go up a pantsize?

sorry for the long question, but any help will be appreciated, or if anyone has gone through this before, It's really hard for me. Thank you guys so much (:

you're not going to use your fun new pants as an excuse not to gain, are you?  the store has more pants.

here's a suggestion: go right now and exchange your size 00's for a size 0 so that you feel you have room to gain.
Your health is more important than your pant size. Honestly, I don't know if they will still fit a few pounds from now, I don't know if 3-7 lbs is all you need to gain to be healthy, either.

But if being healthy means you wear a 2, a 4, or a 6, you'll just have to adjust to it, right? What size you wear is totally meaningless (that's what your therapist has been telling you all along, right?) - it's staying healthy and well that matters.
Thanks for the replies so far guys, I don't know about returning the pants though. Any help here is appreciated (:
Honestly, why not just exchange them for a pair that's a couple of sizes bigger? Wear a belt with them until you fit them properly.

How much does your doctor tell you you need to gain to be healthy? What are your stats? That can help me narrow down what size I'd recommend exchanging them for... :)
I know exactly what you mean. When I was going into recovery I was terrified I wouldn't fit into my clothes anymore. But your health is more important than your clothes size and YOU as a person is worth more than a clothes size.

Buy clothes in bigger sizes for now so you don't worry about not fitting into them later. Cut the labels out if they are still making you anxious. And remember, if you do go up a few sizes, you will look much better in them because you will be healthier.

Send me a message if you ever want to talk, xxx
Thank you guys.
The problem is no one is really telling my how much I need to gain and everyime I ask, they avoid the question by giving me an answer that really has nothing to do with it.
that's probably because you need to gain quite a bit and they don't want to scare you.  just try to be really clear about what health means.  try to focus on what your body can do rather than how much it weighs.  and good luck!
Ah :( Now that scares me..
ha, I probebly sound ridiculous, but thank you guys for the help!
Everyone's different.  I personally go up or down a pants size every 30 lbs, but then I'm a shade over 6 feet tall and you're just a bit over 5, and a different sex, and at an age where your body is still growing.
Yeah. If possible exchange them for a size up or two. That way you can use a cute little belt for the time being, and let yourself have room to gain a bit.

If not. Ooh well. The store has more pants. You can also buy stretcher material pants that way, you allow yourself more leeway. It's important that you don't use this as a reason to not to be healthy. To continue an eating disorder.

I'm not sure where your body stores fat. Some women store it in their thighs others their butts. Some women are top heavy because that's where they store the majority of their fat.

Your body has lil fat tissue glands in different areas of your body, it looks a lot like webbing of some sort. They is one on your stomach too, that's why some people have pop bellys.  There was a whole thing about it on Oprah, featuring Dr.Oz. Depending upon where you store the majority of your fat, you could gain more or less weight without your pant size changing.

I don't think you'll notice a difference in your pant size until you've gained ten or more pounds though. And even then.. not a huge difference. To be honest.
You probably need to gain enough so that you're only slightly underweight on your BMI or so that you're at the low end of average.  The exact number is probably similar to those of us who are above average not knowing exactly what weight or pant size we'll end up at.  We just have to start doing what we need to and keep checking until we're sure that we're healthy and that we're where we need to be.

Buy one pair of pants in the size up from where you are and after you get to that size, reevaluate and if you need to, then buy a pair one size up again.
Yeah, I guess you guys are right. I went to the store yesterday and bought other pants in a size zero, so now at least I have a selection of different sizes to "fluctuate" between I suppose.

Anyone else experience this or have any comments or advice? And again, thanks guys, everyones answers are appreciated.
If you buy a size that is bigger than what you wear now, just leave the tags on, you can always exchange later.  As far as what you "should" weigh, I don't want to scare you...but shooting for a single 0 is a great start (especially since you probably don't have hips yet).
Thank you, I'm trying (:
Actually, I'm about to go to my nutritionist right now..
Okay, just got back from my nutritionist.. not good.
Apparently sh wants me up to 108.
I'm flipping out, and I really can't do that. I knwo that sounds bad, but I thought the most I would have to gain would be about 102-103. I'm really scared, I can't weigh 108.. I know I won't be comfertable, and I'm afraid I'll relapse which is the last thing I want to do..
If you are comfortable with the idea of 102 then that should be your goal for now.  Granted that is still underweight, but it is only under by 5 lbs so I think that would be great for you to reach that goal.  For now, just try to eat the right portions of healthy foods and try not to obsess about it (I know it is hard).  Just take it one day at a time and you will get there naturally.
Idk, I guess I just don't feel that I'm underweight. On all the BMI calculators I use, It says I'm in a healthy range.. I know there not exact or anything, but usually they give you a pretty close estimate.
They want you at a BMI of 19.4. That is not unreasonable.

There's nothing magic about 103, or 108. Five measly pounds cannot possibly make the difference between "OK" and "fat". Surely you can grasp, intellectually if not emotionally, that this is impossible. However, those five pounds can make the difference between "underweight" and "healthy".

There is nothing you can't do. There's only things you won't do. Remember that. If you refuse to gain enough to be healthy, that is a choice, and you are the one who will have to suffer the consequences.  To be underweight or to have too little body fat at a young age like yours, is to ask for a long list of health problems, some of which you cannot reverse later no matter how hard you try. These are crucial years for growth and maturation - this is your only shot to do it right.
