Partying in MEXICO! Need help to stay on track

Quote  |  Reply

So I am going on vacation to Mexico. There will be lots of good food and fatty desserts and maybe even beer. Ill be out there for a week I need all the help ans tips I can get to not go overboard and to stay on track. If I let this vacation get the best of me then it will be very hard to get back on track when i come back. Please share any tips or suggestions with me to help me stay on track. Thanks!

I posted basically the exact message as this when I went to Mexico For Christmas last year. I stayed at an all-inclusive resort (I don't know if you are as well) so I'll just write tips based off of that.

For controlling food intake, since all the foods laid out buffet-style, I always filled up a plate first with fresh fruit and vegetables and ate that. That usually filled me up so I wouldn't go overboard if I wanted something more.

What might cause a problem for you is the all-inclusive bars everywhere. Any drinks, all the time. I didn't have a problem with those as I don't like the taste of alcohol, but if I were you I'd just stay away from the bars >.< Sorry can't do better with this one heh

Finally, don't worry too much! I found that I actually lost weight when I was there and I totally went off couting calories and what not. It's all the exercise I did; playing and running on the beach, swimming, dancing, etc. Look out for the activities they sponsor at all-inclusive resorts, such as dancing, aerobics, volleyball, etc.

Hope that helped!

I'm facing a similar problem. Next week, I'm off to my beloved Portland for a week, and there are so many places there that I love to patronize/gluttonize! I know I'm going to eat well more than what I allow myself at home. I'm just hoping that the hotel has a treadmill. I'm going to regulate myself better than I did when I lived there, but I'll still taste the sweet fruits of a heaping plate of yakisoba.

Enjoy your trip, and don't sweat it too much. When you get back, just focus - your willpower can take you a long way.

Try to stay away from fried foods..like chimichangas...anything grilled is good...If you have to have beer choose a light beer...and stay active!

This is what I did on a recent vacation. I strived for maintenance cals because to me I'd rather not lose & have a lil fun than to gain or spend vacation on a diet the whole time. Worst case scenario you more more apt to say "screw this diet" and go hog wild than if you just try to monitor your cals during the day and then maybe not so hard at night. Obviously what fits best into that days plans. I would absolutely not eat anything fried, skip dessert and decline the frozen drink menu. If you must have one just do it once to get it out of your system, instead of one or two per day. (Those drinks have close to 1000 cals.) If your at dinner and there are apps being ordered, you can ask your server to go ahead and bring your salad first. Drink just a few light beers and sip them & don't clean your plate. It's really a no brainer if you just think of it in terms of making lighter choices and doing things in a similar fashion as you would at home, only a lil less restrictive. Pick and chose your battles. If lunch is going to be at one of your fave spots then maybe just have a salad for dinner. It's all about balancing all throughout the day and if one day just seems to throw you off pick up where u left off the next day and get right back on.

I wish you the best. Have fun in Mexico! That's very exciting!

Ps- I'm also a big fan of eating fruit all throughout the day. It helps hold you over till your next meal.
