Passover is coming...Lets get strong before hand instead of crying about it after

Quote  |  Reply

Ok, so all the jewish ccers out there please join in:

Lets break the habit of the :"They tried to kill us, They failed, lets eat" mentality!

Its coming: that big holiday meal then the big leftovers meal, then another big holiday meal a week later and yes yet another big leftovers meal the day after that.

How are we going to enjoy this holiday without it becoming about eating everything in sight?

I am secular but I love the holiday that brings everyone together and yes - a day off work is a blessing as well (I am Israeli).

I propose to start a list of all the things we love about passover that have NOTHING TO DO WITH FOOD. I'll Start:

1. I love when my dad and my uncle try to mimick my great grandfather's accent during the reading of the haagada. It is always hysterically funny.

2. I love having a day off work where I can go and walk/jog on the beach in the morning while my dad runs and then have coffee together.

3. I love the passover sales!

How about you?

Well it sure is hard to separate food from Passover! But lets give it a try.

I love, getting together with family, friends, and general fellowship on the first and second nights for a Seder. This year my congregation is having a catered Seder and that should be a good time.

I love bringing Matzoh to work, along with some jelly and introducing my co-workers to Passover and explaining how it fits in with their religions

I love being reminded what God has done for us and continues to do for us in our daily lives.

We don't have any Passover sales in Fort Worth, none that I've seen, so shopping is not in the cards during this season. But I'm still willing to join my wife on a shopping spree! Laughing

Bobev, Thanks for that. Even with the matzoh comment (really really high cal...) . I am trying to avoid matzoh bright ( french toast matzoh) or any other high cal indulgence in the name of the holiday!

Anybody else? What things gets you excited about the holiday?

I should have said I bring whole wheat Matzoh to work...Laughing I still have to encourage them to eat healthy!

I like the 'smell' of Passover.

I like see (some) of my family.

I like 'feeling' Jewish.

I, too, am Secular and don't do anything on my own throughout the year.

I like the idea of this thread!

thanx for starting it tamarbee!

I like a lazy holiday. Where the sun is shining and smiling and not working and being  with my family.
