If a typical serving of pasta is 2 oz. dry, about how many cups would that be cooked?
Not trying to be a smart aleck, icat, but why don't you cook two ounces, then put it in a measuring cup. I do know two ounces of pasta is generally about 200-210 calories. At least, that's what the pasta I use has. I doubt this has been much help to you. Sorry.
The whole wheat spaghetti I use is 180 calories for 2 ounces. However, robin9395 is right. All you have to do is cook two ounces and then just measure it for yourself..LOL
Wow...nice people, assuming everyone has a food scale. I'm with you icat, it's a lot easier for those of us without a food scale to figure out how many calories of cooked pasta we've had.
Anyways, here's a useful link that shows the different shapes and sizes of pasta and how much of each of those would be 2 oz. dry:
No offense was intended. Most people here, who are serious about tracking their calories, use a kitchen scale. I certainly couldn't do it without one.
Before I bought a food scale, I would split up the dried noodles in 6 or 8 servings (depending on the box.)
I tried this method after I bought a digital food scale, each serving was off by about .5 to .75 ounces since not all servings were split up accurately.

I don't agree with this statement at all. I don't own a food scale and I'm tracking my calories seriously. I've been doing this for almost 4 months now and I'm losing 3-4 pounds/month.
It can be done without a food scale, but you do have to be very careful.
I, personally, refuse to buy one, because I'm not going to spend the rest of my life measuring every single noodle that goes into a dish. Eating sensibly, proper portion sizes, more veggies/wholegrains/fruits, and exercising a few days a week will offset that half an ounce of uncooked pasta.

Nice statistic you invented there...was that a formal survey? :P
I've lost 30 pounds without one. I'd call myself serious. Michachu, thanks for backing that up too.
It's perfectly fine that you don't agree. Different strokes for different folks. I personally have no problem with measuring or weighing my food. I enjoy it. If you don't need to measure or weigh, good for you. That's terrific. I DO, however, have a problem with people who can't disagree without being sarcastic about it. Now, please have a super day.
Thanks for that link, poutyface - just the thing I was looking for!
To the others - I didn't feel like taking the time to estimate 2 oz. and cook it. Not worth it LOL. I was thinking someone on CC might know it off the top of their head. It would save some pasta. And no I don't have a food scale and I am serious about my calories.
And I have a problem with people who come into a thread with no intention of helping the original poster, not to mention copping an elitist attitude. OH, and as a bonus, complaining about sarcasm and then ending their post with sarcasm. Hypocrisy doesn't impress me much. AND when someone makes a claim about what "most" people do using an availability heuristic or uninformed generalization, the best I can manage is a touch of sarcasm, especially when said comment is condescending in the first place.
It certainly didn't help when the next poster responded with a similar unhelpful comment followed by the infamous "LOL". Neither of you even mentioned a food scale to poor icat - I had to make that leap for you.
So please don't tell me what is fine or terrific to you because I'm not interested, and I'm quite done with this thread.

You implied that people who eat healthy/lose weight can only do it with a food scale... and if you don't do it with a food scale you must not be serious about it. That's why you got snarky remarks.

I believe I also said different strokes for different folks, and that what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another. There will be many different opinions on the subject, and I still don't think "snarky" comments are called for. Sorry, just my opinion.

You're saying different strokes for different folks NOW. But your original comment was point blank "Most people here, who are serious about tracking their calories, use a kitchen scale" therefore implying that those who don't aren't serious.
If you imply that you know best for everyone, people will get offended. Period. And they will be snarky.

And, you are absolutely entitled to your opinion. Now, I, too, am done with this thread. Have a terrific Tuesday. ![]()
Well at least I found what I was looking for... :D

I suppose I could come back with a "snarky" comment, but that's just not my style. If it pleases you, though, have at it.
Huh... who knew pasta was such a catalyst?

I only make snarky comments to snarky posts.
