Today for dinner, I made chicken pasta. The organic pasta was 210 calories, and the chicken was 110. The organic pasta sauce that my parents bought was 90 calories per 1/2 cup (which wasn't bad at all). I didn't use 1/2 cup though, I used about 2 tbsp. The pasta sauce is Villa Bertolli, and it is USDA Approved Organic.
I'm just wondering if the pasta sauce is okay, even though I'm sure it is because it's organic. I'm on a diet.
Not sure what you mean by 'OK'... Chances are it's some combination of tomatoes, onions, herbs, oils etc., and if it was good quality there should be nothing wrong with it.
tomato sauce is ok.. its the creamy sauce that you want to watch out for (ex- alfredo)
Ok meaning healthy..I guess as long as I don't exceed in fat calories.
Good to know, even though I was never really a fan of alfredo sauce, although my mom puts that on almost everything!
Really don't equate 'fat' with 'unhealthy'... We all need some fats in our diet both for the sake of good nutritition and because they make meals more filling and satisfying than they might otherwise be. As long as you're getting a reasonable balance with up to a third of your daily calories from fats on average.... you're fine.
Wow. A third of calories!? I guess I need more fat than I thought. =o
A good target every day is 25-30% of your daily calories coming from fats. If you choose plenty of vegetable sources (olive oil, nuts, avocados etc) and fish along with some whole eggs, lean meat and dairy products you'd be getting a very good mix.
If a typical teen needs 2000-2200 cals a day that means 500 - 700 cals a day from fats. Plenty to play with. No need to fear a little pasta sauce in that light.
Cool :)
