paula deen!
I am just amazed by how much paula deen lifts my spirits! I work out to her show! She makes the most indulgent desserts, and the entrees are drenched in butter and cream or deep-fried. She always jokes about how much butter she uses-- so funny!
What gets me though is, if I ate like her I would be as big as a house. Yet, she's not really that big at all. I've seen people who eat very healthy and restrict themselves who are A LOT bigger than her!!!
Being vegan is the only thing that keeps me from making "gooey butter cakes" all the time!!!!

LOL her butter obsession is crazy.
You are right she's not THAT big, but I wonder what her insides look like. Saturated fat in those kind of amounts will definitely affect your insides even if your waistline stays the same.
Her food looks damn good sometimes though....

i think paula deen is a great tv personality. I mean why should you restrict your self and not allow good and home cooked treats? Theres no reason that you have to eat ninety peaices of the gooey butter cake and be a glutton. Sure its not great for you to use all the butter, but hell, people have eaten butter and fat for centurys and simply ate in moderation. So dont bash the butter, anything is good in moderation, never forget that. People ate normally for a while, and quite frankly the entire health freak movement is rather new, im sure paula deen eats well, and eats in mdoeration. Sure shes not bone skinny, but shes not obese.
I am obsessed with watching the Food Channel and find that it does not make me crave food at all. It is just fun, low stress entertainment. In fact, it is my favorite thing to watch while running on the treadmill. Somehow those food shows just make each half hour fly by, much more than watching any sort of plot based program. (I too am amazed that Paula Deen can eat the kind of food she claims to eat - and we see her eating on the show - and still be just pleasantly plump, not huge at all!)
Alright maybe I was a little hard on the butter (I'm sorry butter). I agree moderation is the key.
However, she had a woman on last week that taught the audience how to make fried breaded butter balls. Thats all they were butter balls breaded and fried. I don't mind butter IN a dish, but I can't say I am a big fan of butter AS the dish lol.

heh thats a nice vien popping recipie , heh. well i guess those cant be that great. but besides. i mean comfort food is just that, for comfort.
Being a southern woman myself who hails from the great southern, beautiful state of Georgia, i will say that i love Paula Deen and this is the way southern people usually cook. Maybe this why i ended up being over weight in my earlier twenties. My family still eats this way. igave it up! thank god. Most people in my family or not over weight. Some of them could stand to lose weight but the others even though they eat this way are very active and seem to have their weight in check. but they have a lot of health issues, huh, i wonder why???? Duh, lay off the butter, bacon grease(yes, they save it and cook with it) and lard, people!!!
I do like her unabashed, unapologetic use of ready mixes and refrigerator biscuits. The point of her show is to demonstrate old fashioned southern cooking, not health cuisine. She has such a sunny personality that you just can't help but like her.
However I've not made a single recipe of hers. A friend of mine, who is a doctor, came to visit while I was watching Paula. After he managed to shut his dropped jaw, he said "She's trying to kill us all."

well my mothers family is eastern european, and as a kid she was chubby, her mother fed her well, she lost the weight and is a healthy weight now, shes over 50 now. But all i know is that people should respext cultures and thier cooking styles, i mean you dont have to eat greasy lard filled butter everyday.
at least lard/butter is better for you than crisco.

I also adore Paula Deen and am addicted to the Food Network. I watch it at the gym, it makes me feel happy that I'm not eating all the stuff they're making but it's still so fun to watch. I make some of Giada's recipes, as long as you leave out her mascarpone cheese, yipes, that stuff has 14 grams of fat in ONE tablespoon!
watching paula deen cook make me hungry, i end up with a glass of milk and a box of cookies after watching her show, its a good thing im a failure in the kitchen or id be huge!
I LOVE her. She is so funny and kind-hearted. Watching her smile and hearing her laugh on her TV show really warms my heart. ^_^
That being said, I would never eat her food. o_O
I do want to keep living, you know.
Oh, and Giada used to annoy me until I saw her Chefography episode. She seemed..too perfect. And it just bugged me. But then I saw her outtakes for Everyday Italian on the Chefography, and needless to say, now I like her.

Since I'm Italian, Giada's cooking is old hat to me. I love it, but she tends to do variations of the same things over and over. I still wonder how she stays that skinny.
I always think that giada takes a bite of something then spits it out... I don't mean to sound rude, I mean that when you taste that much food for the sake of tv you can't possibly eat it all. Also maybe she has a rigorous exercise program...
After seeing some behind the scenes specials, I realized that there are many people working behind the scenes at those shows (including 1-3 cameramen, sound techs, directors, producers, food preparation and gadget prep people). I have a feeling that all the food they make on the shows gets eaten by the crew or used for an event or donated to charity (I know Paula is really involved in an orphanage in Georgia). I do feel jealous and sorry for the crew at the same time - they are exposed to temptation whenever they are filming or even just practicing. :)
