Paula Deen (trust me, it's gross)
Here's some good old fashioned lovin' from the oven deep fryer:
http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recip e/0,,FOOD_9936_36918,00.html
What did y'all expect? XD
Some of the nasty things I've seen her do:
Fry lasagne
Fry fully loaded baked potatos
Pour a butter honey sauce over fried chicken
Frosted muffins (doesn't that make it a cupcake)
Homemade Pork Rinds (Fried pork fat)
Bacon Wrapped hotdogs topped with butter fried onions and melted velveeta cheese then topped with scoops of coleslaw dripping in mayo.
And when her fat little face lights up to taste her coronary inducing fare I realize she's the "Fat American" at it's worst.
i mean, she's certainly not thin, but she's not repulsively overweight. i suppose that's not an indication of her health in general. she's probably got heart disease up the wazoo and her cholesterol probably isnt something to giggle about either.
buti do watch her show, and i gotta admit, some of those dishes make me weak at the knees i want em so bad!
oh ya! and she fried up cheesecake believe it or not.

For the love of all that is holy....why?! WHY?
Lasagna is already pretty high in calories and then you go and fry it? How does frying it make it better tastewise or texturewise that you couldn't achieve by baking it a few minutes longer?
While I would never actually eat anything she makes because it is so bad for you that doesn't means some of the stuff doesn't sound delicious. I love her show because she is nuts, like a crazy grandma or aunt, I bet she would be fun to hang out with.
I love her! I would never eat anything she cooks but I love watching her show! That does look disgusting though...

believe it or not, jon basso, the owner, is an absolute health nut. he's also a great marketer.
aww, don't hate on Paula Deen! Her food is delicious, and its not all that bad. I cook her baked spaghetti regularly!
Thats just the way people like to eat in the south.
Also, even for a southerner her way of cooking is a little extreme at times, or at least it would have been where I come from. I don’t ever remember any of them deep-frying anything except for when the “Deep fried turkey phase” spilled over the U.S. and that was more about boys with their gadgets than COOKING, if you get my drift. The people I knew (Southerners) pan fried a lot of food, had bread (or cornbread) at every meal and had a tendency to throw bacon into many dishes that could have easily done without! But they also made loads of fresh vegetables and had sliced fresh tomatoes or onions with every meal and didn’t eat as often…breakfast and dinner seemed to be the norm, with a LOT of physical work done throughout the day.
My southern grandmother was as skinny as a stick and lived to be 84. I think it was because she was constantly on the go, a very active woman. Maybe it balanced out all the unhealthy eating, I don’t know. She died from lung problems, not heart.
But my point is, in my neck of the south southern food was (I say was because I no longer live down there) much simpler and often made with fresh ingredients. I’m not saying it was healthy, far from it in fact but if they coulda switched to baking meats and slapped the breaks on the bacon they’d have been doing good.
In my mind Paula Deen is an entertainer, not someone you’d want to mimic as far as your everyday menu is concerned. Personally I think she’s delightful and funny to watch.

...only because of previous deprivation. Butter, once affordable, is certainly healthier than cornstarch and clay.
I simply can't stand to hear her talk--Alton Brown got rid of the accent, as many other people have, so why doesn't she?
If she wanted, she could find authentic recipes using local ingredients, such as poke salad, sassafras, crowder peas, the small green peppers, etc., and game such as squirrel and possum, rather than the manufactured monstrosities she concocts.
I KID you not
a fan had written to her and given her the recipe, so she brought the fan on stage to demonstrate her recipe.
they battered a very chilled ball of butter, and then QUICKLY deep fried it.---
EeeeewwwwwaaH!........

That's actually becoming a common thing - fried cheesecake. I went to a local Applebee's recently, and one of the new desserts is a "fried cheesecake chimi" - actually it looks good, but bad at the same time. Both Sonic and Jack in the Box now offer "fried cheesecake bites" on their menu. One thing I did actually try (before I started my healthy eating) was the fried cheesecake at Longhorn Steakhouse. Not only is it a large goblet filled with chunks of fried cheese cake, they serve it with a scoop of ice cream, and drizzle it with strawberry syrup. Yeah, healthwise it was super nasty, but for sheer decadence, it was actually very good. Will never have it again, though.
But for sheer audacity in the deep frying thing, I read about this place in Scotland that deep fries practically anything - there was a link to it in another thread somewhere. They had deep fried Mars and Milky Bars, and even deep fried pizza - for those people who really wanted to speed up their progression towards heart disease. ![]()
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
This is the best way to picture a portion of pie or cake: Draw a circle to represent the circumference of the cake or pie (9" pie? 10" cake?... Read more
