Paula Deen (trust me, it's gross)
Here's some good old fashioned lovin' from the oven deep fryer:

What did y'all expect? XD
This isn't about Paula Deen but I was at a restraunt the other day and they had deep fried cookie dough. ew....
And that whole deep fried butter thing is just revolting. How did she think of this and how can it even taste good? Bluck.
Original Post by elizabethberg:
she once FRIED BUTTER. literally deep fried butter. nothing else, no additions to the ingredients, butter, breadcrumbs and oil. FRIED BUTTER. Can anyone else say ew....
EW!!! Fried.. butter..? That traumatizing. How would one go about consuming such a monstrositous thing?
Y'know people eat fried ice cream and fried coca cola? I've always wondered how you manage to deep-fry something thats liquid..
Oh yes.. and who's ever had a deep-fried Twinkie?
A few years ago I had a summer job at a small grocery store (so small that I was the only cashier!). There was a small burger/ice cream joint attached to the grocery store, and I would chat with the girl who worked there when it was slow.
One day we got bored and decided to try to deep fry a Twinkie.
Lessons learned:
1) Twinkies are like sponges. They absorb a LOT of oil.
2) If you decide to deep fry a Twinkie, don't use the same oil that has been cooking fried chicken and fries all day
3) EWWWWWWWWWW!!
haha, it didn't turn out so well. When State Fair vendors do it, they must use a batter or something...
They do batter it.
And she made a pancake sandwich (she cooked them on a griddle w/ butter AND olive oil) put two slices of cheese, a slice of sausage, egg, slathered the top w/ butter and then poured syrup over it. SOOOO nasty!!
AND she makes fried peanut butter banana sandwiches!!!!
I'm a southern girl. I have never ate a deep fried twinkie, or even cheese curds.
NOT eating something from home is what put the weight on me. Eating fast food, and neglecting to go to grandma's house for suppers out it on me. The older people I know down here all have gardens, and don't eat the steriod, chemical ridden fruits and veggies in your supermarket.
Paula has some awesome recipes. I've even had a "Paula Deen night" where everyone brings something from her cook books. Believe it or not, most people chose the healthier things from her books - if you have ever looked at one, you know they are there. Paula's recipes are not for your run of the mill Tuesday night dinner. They are for not-so-often occasions... maybe once a month or so. And if people on here can't do that one night a month, I'm sorry for them.
Paula Deen amuses me to no end. Last week, she actually said "I think the best thing I ever did for myself was install a deep fryer in my kitchen!" Who says that?!
Her foods are so over-the-top rich and fattening that I think it's funny.
My favorite appetizer is fried mozzerella sticks. Man those are good.
I'm very ashamed to say that a fried peanut butter and banana sandwich sounds like the most delicious thing in the world to me. 8D
I'm also ashamed to say that I think I'm going to try it, with a smaller amount of oil. (To pretend like its going to be healthy)
I tried deep-fried twinkies once at a fair, and I had to split it in half and share it with a friend because on bite made me sick. It wasn't really even that good, just extra-oily and the creme stuff was kind of melted a little inside, so it was messy and all over the place. Definantly not a cardiologist's dream, and not something you should eat more than once in a lifetime. :O
I know so many people here in Texas who eat like that. And not just at state fairs. I'll admit to trying a few crazy fried things (fried banana split for instance) and generally they're just not that good.
But people love Paula Deen because she is that stereotypical grandma you go visit every couple months who just cooks you a ton of nasty disgusting food you would never otherwise eat. I think she's pretty hilarious. But lord knows her cholesterol must be through the roof.

Do you have a George Foreman grill? Whenever I feel especially naughty, I use wheat bread, peanut butter, banana, and a bit of Pam or ICBINB spray. Make the sandwich as usual, spray the outside of it with either spray, toss it into the Foreman, and it is sooooo amazing. And if you want the peanut butter and banana to not battle it out and become a goopy, slick mess, mash the banana and add in the peanut butter, stir it up, and then use that instead of slices of banana.
