How much do you pay your babysitter?
I babysit for a few people and I charge $5-$6 an hour, but I think that is pretty cheap. I have 2 kids of my own, so for some reason I want to be affordable for people I consider friends. Where I live, I know of a few young women that charge $9-$10. I'll be curious to see other answers.
I babysit, and I've charged anywhere from 7-15 dollars an hour.
$7 for one 2 year old
$10 for 3 kids, ages 9, 10, and 3
$15 for 5 month year old (I thought it was outrageous when they paid me this much! But hey, I didn't complain...)
The average is 10 dollars for me, but I'm also CPR certified and I actually play with the kids and take them places rather than plopping them in front of a TV like some people I know. I dislike bad babysitters :-(
I also babysit... i charge little because the kids are older (8, 9, 11, 12) and i have been with the family for 2 years. but if you have young children i think that about $7.00 dollars is fine mostly because that is mininmum wage. i would tip them for two children
My cousin is a certified nanny and gets $16 an hour for one child. She specializes in newborn to toddler age twins, and for that gets $24 an hour. Most of the jobs she's held required long hours and some of them paid a salary instead of an hourly wage.
I thought I'd show you the opposite end of the spectrum and what well off people are willing to pay for quality child care.
You want a babysitter's wages? daycare wages? nanny wages? daycare rates? and for what ages?
My daughter is now 8, I pay about 100 per week for before and afterschool, plus one evening till 8.
At 4 it was 140/week at La Petite.
At birth it was 185? 195? per week for La Petite.
Babysitting, anywhere between 4/hr and 12/hr, depending on the age and experience of the sitter and how stuck I am for care. A 14 yr old gets about 4/hr. A 20 yr old gets about 6-8/hr. I charge about 8/hr, but I bring my own child with me, which I think should be a downward factor in pay. Plus it depends on where you live. I'm in the midwest, its much cheaper here. In say, NY or CT, even 16 yr olds charge 8 or more per hour. In Aspen or other resort type areas, try 15 plus.
And I'm pretty sure that nanny's are paid to be nanny's, not sitters.... no matter how well off you are.
try to pay your babysitters minimum wage!
Our babysitters in Seattle make A LOT more than minimum wage. My in-home part-time nanny is $14/hour.
We have two children, and the standard rate in our area (for responsible high school or college-age young women) is $5 per child per hour.
My daughter is 12. She has her Red Cross certification for babysitting. She has 4 kids (different residences) where she babysits. The youngest is 6 months. The oldest is 4 but he is special needs as he has Downs Syndrome. She gets between 4 and 6 dollars an hour for babysitting.
That's it, I'm moving away from Seattle! $3-$5 per hour????? Wow!
