120pds to loose

Quote  |  Reply
Hi. I am Holly and I just found this site. I have been overweight since puberty. I have PCOS. My doc and I have tried alot of things and now we are trying just watching my calories. I am on 2 water pills a day and a hormonal birth control that is suppose to help some of the symptoms.

All that said the weight makes it PCOS worse or the symptoms worse but the weight is put on because of the PCOS. Yea a vicious circle.

I was wandering how many of you have lost 100 pds or more?

Are there any out there with PCOS?

Are there any out there with PCOS and have lost 100pds or more?

And of course I open to suggestions and thoughts and just plain encouragement. I have very little will power and a killer appetite.

I am horrific speller so please excuse it.

Thanks for any help

Hi Holly,

I have PCOS as well. I've found that Yasmin birth control pills control a lot of my symptoms.

And I've had success with losing weight, albeit very slowly over the past few years. I think exercise is key to this.

It is a vicious cycle though, you're right, but at least my symptoms have lessened.

Have you begun an exercise routine?
yes I am walking atleast 30 mins a day
I have PCOS and have lost 91 lbs to date.  I want to lose about 30 more, so I started out about where you are.  I take glucophage for my PCOS and it seems to manage my symptoms very well.  I don't think it does anything for weight loss, but it helps with everything else.  I have 4 children from infertility treatment partially due to the PCOS, but I'm past having children at this point and mostly treat the PCOS to maintain my health.
That is awesome and gives me hope. I have one son and that is all we have been able to have. My PCOS is so bad right now another pg would only make it worse. I took the glucophage too I was up to 2000 mg twice a day but my stomach couldn't handle it and my symptoms were not easing but for short periods. So now we are just treating it. Besides my son is 7 now. Thank you for sharing.
My four children are from IVF, we did one cycle and got lots of follicles as you might imagine.  I didn't find pregnancy to cause problems with the PCOS except for leading to weight gain.  I gained 90 lbs total from the time I got pregnant with my oldest until last summer when I started losing weight.  I had lost 45 lbs at one point as well.  I actually lost all my weight after each preganncy and then gained it all back over the next year.  It was 3 pregancies as one was twins.

Good luck managing the PCOS.

I have pcos also and need to lose just over 100pnds i want to lose the weight in hopes that it will help bring back my periods naturaly my doctor said this is possible sense before putting on the weight i had regular monthly period. im hoping it works also for the fact that i would like to have a baby in the next few years and want to make sure im as healthy as i can be befor doing so. i havestarted eating so much healthier and i exercise a min. of 30 min a day but aim for an hour if possible but i understand completly how it feels trying to lose the weight good luck!!

Hello Hollygilliam

I have PCOS, and have lost over 130 pounds in over two years. I can totally relate to your struggle. There is a support group on here for PCOS sufferers http://caloriecount.about.com/soul-cysters-g1 635 which you may find helpful, there are many women on here with the same problems as you.

Like you, I had tried most 'diets' and things. It came down to calorie counting and good old fashioned exercise. I try to limit my starchy white carbs (bread, pasta, rice, potatoes) as a low GI diet has proved sucessful with PCOS and insulin resistence. That doesn't mean you have to give them up altogether- just eat them once a week. Fill up on lots of water, veggies and low cal snacks in between meals. Try to eat regularly so you dont get hungry.

If you need any more advice, feel free to PM me. :o)
