Peanut Butter and Banana = a taste of pure heaven
Every day is a good day with this delightful combination.
As a child, my mother would make me peanut butter, bananas and honey sandwiches. She'd smush them all together and spread it on bread.
Amazing.
I found a low-cal, low-sodium peanut butter called Better'n Penut Butter. It's good, but in an entirely different way. To me, it has a bit of a coffee taste to it.
Anybody know of any delicious alternatives to the high-fat Creamy Jif I have sitting in my cabinet?
It breaks my heart to leave it up there...unopened...all by its lonesome...begging for me to open it.
PB2!!! I just ordered it and havent tried it yet. Buttt from other people on this site, I have heard that it's really good. It's powdered peanut butter (they squeezed the oil out of it), so you just add water to it, and its just like other peanut butter. For 2 tablespoons its about 55 calories, whereas regular peanut butter is about 190!!! I am very excited to try it and I'll let you know if it's as good as other people say it is when I get mine.
Nothing compares to the creamy, rich decadence of peanut butter. Thank goodness for Marcellus Edson for discovering the magic of this amazing food over a century ago. There are many alternatives, but there are no substitutes. PB is one indulgence I allow myself, and although its very calorie dense, it's satisfying and actually stays with me long enough for me to work it off.
Ahh. The perfect food. :)

I actually keep the full fat Jif around. I like it, plain and simple and the reduced fat ones taste like garbage to me. As long as it fits in where I need it to and it doesn't send my numbers over, its all good. Although this PB2 stuff is starting to grab my attention.....
I use the whipped Peter Pan peanut butter- the dietician that I see says that having pb in your diet is a good source of protein and she has me eat pb as much as I want- just one serving at a time but up to 3-5 times a day- I find that the whipped is light and tastes just like the regular- but you do save some calories-
i have the pb2 and while it tastes okay and it's great that it's so low cal, it's a hassle to me. to mix it up and use it and have to scrape it off of whatever you mixed in it.. it's alittle anoying (imo). i'm addicted to better 'n peanut butter. i think it tastes great. not exactly like regular peanut butter but it's very creamy and delicious. lastly, i'd like to say that i do love regular peanut butter (chunky) and i feel that as long as you make room for it in your daily calorie intake, there's no reason why you can’t have the one you want. it's a great source of good fats and if you enjoy it, continue to enjoy it!
Trader Joe's carries a nice variety of natural and no salt/hydrogenated oil added PB. Their almond butter is great also, but kinda pricey...I love a pb & banana sandwich grilled with a touch of butter
I just ran out of PB2 (all four jars of it!), but it is as yummy as it's hyped up to be. I, too, am addicted to pb&banana, and I also eat pb&honey sammidges as well, but never thought to mix all three. Ooooh, that sounds so good. >D
Anyway, the way I'd mix my PB2 would be to mash the banana first, then add the PB2 to it to make a creamy peanut-buttery spread.
That said, as I understand it, peanut butter tends to be full of good fats. I hope so, at least. o.O It's my main source of fat in the day.
The peanut butter I currently use is actually just ground up peanuts. They sell it at the grocery store here (Winco) and you grind it yourself in-store in their grinder. It's very spreadable, and has no additives: just ground up raw peanuts. One ounce of it (28g) is only 165cal, 14g fat, something like 7 or 8g protein (sorry, I forgot T.T) and upon looking, it /is/ good fats: the poly-and-mono unsaturated ones. Your body needs those fats, so don't feel guilty indulging. ^_^
I am so with you on the pb and banana combo! It is one of my favorites and every time my husband sees me eating it, he gets grossed out. Probably if he tried it, he would see the beauty too.
Like several others, I am addicted to Better 'n' PB. I actually like it BETTER than regular peanut butter because it is so easy to spread and I actually mix it into things like chocolate pudding and ice cream (all sugar free versions of course) to give them a little variety. It's annoying that it doesn't come up when I search foods to add to the calorie count. Do other people know how to find it? It's a pain to fill in all the boxes myself.
i think i searched under Better'n and found it
Edit: search under peanut butter. It's a Wonder food or something
I concur! Peanut butter and bananas are like a dessert to me. And my mom made PB & banana sandwiches for us, too. Can you believe there are people out there who have never heard of this and/or think it's gross? They don't know what they're missing!
Natural PB is heavenly. I eat Smucker's. Ingredients: Peanuts. 1 tbsp = 105 calories. Hard to beat that in my book! Granted, you have to stir the stuff for about 10 minutes with a fork when you get a new jar, but it's well worth the work, and once stirred, it pretty much stays mixed.
Go team Peanut Butter! ![]()
