I just had a bit of peanut butter...its the unsweetened kind..I only had about a teaspoon of it just to try it...and now I have a nasty belly ache :S

could I be allergic or something? how do you know if the peanut butter is spoiled or something?

(I've never had peanut butter before...maybe in a candy and such but not the butter)

This has happened to me a couple of times once my peanut butter has been past useby. Check the date on it. If not that, then sit it out and try some again.

Edit: Wait, you've never had it before? Oh. Then it may simply be your body isn't used to it! Just introduce it a little at a time. :] If you can eat peanuts and such in other things fine you wouldn't have an allergy to the butter, anyway.

an allergy is lethal.  your throat would be closing up and your lips would get swollen.  if that's not the case, you just need to accustom your body to it.  it's an intolerance if you get a rash, in which case you might want to avoid it, since it would become an allergy if you eat too much of it.

well it does say that the expiration date is november 09...

still it had this strange liquid on top...and it has a hard consistency? Im not sure how normal that is or how peanut butter is supposed to look like...but Im kind of scared of having a bigger amount (like I  planned on having mixed in with my oatmeal) and getting real sick from it :S Actually now that I think about it when I was about ot open the lid it was not even tight...so maybe air got in and it got bad?

sucks for me cos I just bought that today and it wasnt cheap :/ oh well

Stir your peanut butter. That's the oil from the butter that's meant to be through it to help it spread. It's the natural oil of the nuts, nothing odd.

Oh! And it's quite easy to process your own. [: Probably cheaper, too. Of any kind of nuts. Though I've only tried with pecans and almonds so far, it's pretty easy. Pecans didn't need any added oil either as they're so soft (for me, anyway). Just be prepared to use it all quickly or make a small amount experimentally as they go off a bit faster than your usual supermarket type (no preservatives in homemade kinds).

is it the natural kind (with il seperation like lala said) or the kraft kind that doesn't need to be refrigerated?  either way though, the oil shouldn't be hard.  it should be oily/liquid.

Juleroo: I think it may have been the PB that was hard. :] It gets like that when they seperate.

yeah it was definitely the PB being hard..I mixed it in, and it was better...still i need to mix it more..and I sadly threw a bit of the oil away thinking it was not meant to be there LOL yes Im a newbie when it comes to PB...I guess the belly ache was just my body trying ot get used to it, since I didnt have it like this before..(my boyfriend tried it and said it tasted just fine..and he's had PB before so he should know) next time instead of dipping my spoon in there for a taste Ill have it with some toast or with  my oatmeal tomorrow :P

thank

lols, i know that, guess i didn't put it tho...  i've never had PB in oatmeal though.  let us know if it's good.

will do - (if i dare to try it..im scared of the bellyache!) I've read a bunch of people trying PB with their oatmeal...and say that it is good...I also found recipes online for peanut butter oatmeal...so it sounds interesting plus healthy. I'll try and give it a go tomorrow.

Hahaha I can’t believe you’re a peanut butter virgin!

Peanut butter was a MAJOR binge food during my ED! So I know ALL about it!

If you can find it, look for ALMOND BUTTER. I think it taste MUCH NICER then peanut butter! It is MUCH sweeter, you’ve told me about your love of carbohydrates so the sweetness of the almond butter will probably appeal to you more then the peanut butter!

LALA - does processing your own almond butter taste as good as the stuff you buy? The almond butter you buy is so sweet and nice and I am worried that the almonds won’t taste as sweet and tasty if I blend them together myself?

PB and oatmeal is lovely. I personally either heat the PB a little so it is easier to stir in, or just put it in the hot oats and stir it through. Some people put the PB on their spoon and eat the combo that way. Do try it, though, it's awesome. :D

Personaltrainer: It was quite sweet, but I roasted mine first. Raw, they might have a bit of a tang if you get a bitter one in there. Also, I'm going to move this over to Foods if that's alright!

if its that good you sure convinced me lol I will give it a try tomorrow for sure

no problem about moving it! :) this is turning into a PB talk anyway lol more than it can be reason for my weird belly ache :P

I tried BP and oatmeal yesterday for the first time and it tasted great.  I didn't need to put any sweetner in my oatmeal and it kept me full for hours.  Oatmeal usually does the trick of keeping me full but with the BP for some reason I didn't have any cravings and wasn't hungry til 5 hours later.  It was so good I had it today for breakfast also.
