Peanut Butter!

Quote  |  Reply

I'm one of those people that REALLY loves peanut butter, but I want to cut down on how much of it I eat.  Does anybody have a good way to avoid food they like eating? (other than getting it out of the house, because my family doesn't want to get rid of it)

Any advice is appreciated! I have a hard time not eating it.

I've seen packs of peanut butter before that contain a few single-serving packets.  Perhaps that can help with eating too much of it?

Eat another food. Sunflower seeds became my goto as they are fairly good for you and take a long time to eat a lot of them. Helped me cut out most snack foods.

I found this stuff called PB2 at a local health food store- its powdered peanut butter, then you mix it with a tablespoon of water, and it tastes exactly like the real thing! except it only has 50 calories and 2.8g of fat per serving... i think i am addicted!

I can't leave peanut butter alone either so simply don't buy it any more!  Problem solved.  If your family want to keep buying it, ask them to put it away somewhere well out of sight and reach.  A high shelf is good.  The time it takes to drag a chair across the floor can be the thinking time you need to decide you don't want it!

Good substitute I found... hummus dip.  Has a pleasantly nutty flavour from the tahini sesame seed paste, much lower in calories and delicious with raw veggies sticks.  Great for when you're not particularly hungry but your teeth need keeping busy!

omg I'm the same way! Here's a couple of suggestions: tape a package of gum to your pb container. Everytime you go to eat some grab a stick of gum instead. Or you could use PB2, as stated above. Another thing I've found usefull is allowing myself to have one tablespoon in the morning, and one tablespoon in the afternoon, and thats it. It makes it so that I don't feel deprived or restricted. Hope this helps.

The thing is if you try to cut it out completely, you're just gonna want it more. Try & go w/moderation, otherwise you may be grabbing a reese's @ the grocery store instead.

I'm the same with crisps.  Before I could eat 3-4 bags a day, but now I limit myself to 1 bag of the low fat variety and I only buy enough for 1 week so I don't eat more.  There's so many different kinds I don't feel like I'm missing out. I usually save it till the evening when I'm more prone to snacking and it's a little treat to look forward to.

I think you should just limit yourself to one or two tbsp a day, so you don't feel deprived. When you do have a bit, don't eat it alone--enjoy it in a way that stretches it. For example, instead of just licking it right off the spoon, eat it with a cut up apple, carrot or celery sticks, spread on toast, or--my recent favorite that really satisfies a craving--oatmeal with half a banana and a tbsp of peanut butter, yum!
