i have recently realized that penut butter and (strwberry preserves) grilled sandwichs are the best food ever.im deffinalty in love with it and im having a problem with it. and i have way too much peanut butter (on its own), i stick with the reduced fat kind.. but i still eat too much of it! any suggestions fore lower peanut butter consumption?
do you have any costsco's or warehouse stores near you like wholesale or anything? i have one in my city, and they sell big boxes of pre-portioned peanut butter packs, and they're between like 90-120 calories.
peanut butter is the devil for me too. another way for better nut butter consumption, is to go to the organic food aisle in your local grocery store and look for pumpkin seed butter. it's actually alot healthier than normal peanut butter because it has less calories, more fiber and more protein. the only difference between the two is the taste (obviously, but it's a slight difference and it's still yummy), and also pumpkin seed butter has a drier consistency, so it's REALLY hard for me to binge on it.
good luck!
the only thing with reduced fat is the extra sugar they put in it to make up for the low fat. try making your own or just getting the natural kind. i would have maybe 2-3 tablespoons of peanut butter a day. usually with a banana or rye crisp bread w/ honey. its a nice snack to keep the hunger away as it has fat & protein.
mmm, pumpkin butter sounds nice too.
I eat far too much pb that ISN'T reduced fat haha. What's your definition of 'too much?" PB is full of good fats & protein, not to mention it's DELICIOUS. If you're fitting it into your calories, I say don't give up the sandwiches. yum.
Peanut butter is healthy. If you are reducing or cutting red meat from your diet, know this: peanuts have similar nutrients found in red meat, so you may be becoming deficient in those nutrients and therefore be craving the nuts.
Instead of strawberry preserves, try real strawberries, bananas, or apples. Preserves have added sugar and not as much fiber--real fruit is healthier and will keep you full longer. Also, instead of frying the bread in oils or butter, simply toast it. If you want a hint of sweetness, take a bit of honey and spread a thin layer on the bread before toasting. Honey still has sugar, but it is healthier for you. Enjoy
I like straight up crunchy (fat filled) PEANUT BUTTER. I don't eat it very often though...so I don't really worry too much about it! As a matter of fact, this morning I had Jif extra crunchy PB on Healthy Choice 7 grain toast with a banana on the side...mmm... I LOVED my breakfast!
Jordan
I love grilled cheese too... but my mom buys the processed cheese... so i told her if she plans on making some I'll buy some REAL cheese so it's healthier. I love PB! My fav. sandwich these days are 1 tbsp PB and 1 tbsp honey.. YUM!!!! Sooo good... If its the crunchy kind I'll eat it out of the jar... my mom bought some werid stuff last time and tastes wrong by its self...
Later!
I LOVE grilled PB & J sandwiches! So much that I've decided to fit one into my diet at least every other day. I have a problem getting a lot of fat in my diet so the peanut butter certainly helps. 1 serving on the sandwich is just enough, although sometimes I wish I could have a little more peanut butter on the sandwich. ;-)
OK I am a peanutbutter freak and found a product the "Hungry Girl" website recommended. ( SUPER site btw ) It is called Better'n Peanut Butter 2G fat and 100 calories per serving (2 Tb) It is so yummy. I have Kashi Honey Oat waffles with this stuff and a banana sliced on top with a little drizzle of honey for breakfast quite often. This stuff is hard to find in stores but the website does direct you to where to find it in your area as well as purchasing on line. I did find it at my local Super Target. This is the best stuff ever, I did a happy dance as soon as I tried it, was very skeptical that it could be good without all the fat but, I was pleasantly surprised. It is slightly thicker than regular stuff and it also comes in a chocolate flavor (have not tried this one yet) So hope this helps enjoy !!
Better'n Peanut Butter (in my opinion) is very disgusting. So don't get your hopes up too high until you've tried it. Maybe you will love it, but I just want you to be warned.
I would like to try PB2 sometime, but after Better'n Peanut Butter experience I am very skeptical of peanut butter substitutes. I think it's one of those things that there is no substitute for. It's the fat and natural flavors that make it so darn good.
Miss Betsy, So sorry you feel that way. It is a great product alternative though. Nothing can duplicate a "real" product of course, but this one is pretty close. I've not tried the PB2 but will have to search it out perhaps.
Well we all have different tastes i guess. I have to admit i am jealous of you for liking it. I wish i did. It's a great alternative (calorie-wise)
: )
if you like the reduced fat peanut butter you will probably like the Better 'n' Peanut Butter -- they share a similar sweet quality.
If your idea of great peanut butter is "just Peanuts" or another "natural" peanut butter of just peanuts or just peanuts and salt -- you probably will not like the BnPB.
I hated the reduced fat PB when I tried it years ago -- threw the jar out. I tried the BnPB a couple of months ago -- same thing...
It's not wrong to not like something (I also hate every freakin thing Walden Farms puts out, and (gasp) anything resembling Crystal light). If you like them, more power to you, means you will probably get to eat more things than I.
PB2 will be my next test -- but I'm cheap and don't really want to spend the money ordering.....
