Peanut Butter And.....

Like everything don't have it in excess, it is high in fat, but not the bad fats (assuming you are not eating a very overprocessed brand that has trans-fats and saturated fats....look at label) on the good side it's also high in protine.

I have some difficulty getting my calories up to where they should be. On days'that I'm falling short, I have a couple of spoons of peanut butter before I go to bed.

On another note, my grandmother kept a "Peanut Butter And..." list, it's a list of things that she fed to kids she baby sat, her own kids, and of course her grandkids.... anything the kids liked with peanut butter went on the list.....

The weirdest one that I remember was peanut butter and dill pickles.... haven't had the heart to try it myself... :) But I can see peanut butter and carrots being really yummy (I think that's on the list.... as is peanut butter and potato chips.... but that's much less healthy).
Peanut butter is one of the good guys! Just be sure to measure it and count the calories. There are some low fat brands out there but I haven't tried them. I buy Crazy Richard's peanut butter because it has only one ingredient - Peanuts! It's old fashioned so the oil rises to the top and can be poured off. I have no idea how many fat calories that is, but it's so good!

On carrots? I'll have to try that!
Oh my goodness, I haven't thought of peanut butter and dill pickles for a long time! My grandmother taught me that, and she was born in 1883, so maybe it's a really, really old fashioned thing. Makes my mouth water thinking about it. It's even better with some mayo. But we aren't touching that stuff these days!!!! are we?
Here's one my grandmother used to make for my sister and I when we were little (no wonder we grew around the middle!)....Peanut butter mashed up with bananas....use it for a potato chip dip. It is awesome! Dangerously high in calories. Haven't had any in nearly 25 years or so....
Good news - peanuts and peanut butter are appearantly good for your heart. There is a still on-going controversy about what is best for reducing cardiovascular risk, and monounsaturated fats found in peanuts are currently leading the pack.

I wouldn't get too excited too soon about any "brand new research results" nowadays, but peanut butter should be good for you as long as - just like with everything else - you are not overdoing it.
I know that Jiff also makes a healthier peanut butter, it is lower in everything then regular. Can't remember off hand just how many calories, because I used up what I had and need to get me another jar, but compared to the regular stuff my kids eat it was quite a difference.
I'll have to look for that, too, jamster. I just clicked on peanut butter, and it looks like it's about 60% fat. And was it 160 cals per tablespoon? I already forgot, but it was way way up there. Yikes.
No, worse than that, it's 190!!!!
Elin, It's 190 per TWO tablespoons.
I'll have a teaspoon with my breakfast when I have cereal, it seems to stay with me a li'l longer that way, and with only one teaspoon, it's not THAT horrible. I guess, lol. ::Drools:: I love peanut butter, and I can't seem to completely cut it out of diet ... I just need to get a kind that tastes just as good that's a li'l lower in calories n fat when this jar's gone.
The best kind of peanut butter is natural peanut butter! It is still high in calories, but it doesnt use the bad sugars! I love it
Ever had a peanut butter and banana sandwich?! It's the best!
I have 1 tbl of peanut butter on 2 slices of low cal bread ~ is about 185 cal per sand.. I love peanut butter and I make sure that I set aside the cals for this DELISH!! treat...

happy eating!!
I use the natural kind of p-nut butter. better taste and no sugar.

We used to eat p-nut butter/pickle on bread with mayonnaise. great sandwith. lots of sandwiches can be made, substitute tomato for pickle. ymmmmm.

don't need a lot of p-nut butter. I barely use 1 or 2 tea spoons. little bit goes a long way. same way with mayo.

drooling a bit now. oh oh

My 5 year old came home from school & asked if I could send baby carrots & some p.b. to school with her for snack! I guess she learned it from a friend. Every try PB with apple slices? Delicious!
PeanutButter with fresh Strawberries.
Hmmm, or on top off pancakes.
Thanks, readnchick, I thought I'd have to give it up completely!! Now I know I can have it on toast once in a while. Or, one of our other favorites "bugs on a log"---a celery stick filled with peanut butter and topped with a few raisins.
I think this is my favorite forum ever!! I love peanut butter and now I have a million new ideas of how to fit it into my daily intake. Thanks guys!
The peanut butter I mentioned before is called Simply Jiff...Here are the stats on it:

Calories 190 per 2 TBSP....My trick is not to use the whole tablespoon...I just use very little to either give my rice cake some flavor or my multi grain english muffin a taste. They do make a reduced fat kind and I checked it out tonight...but I thought the simply Jiff was a little better count wise.
I have a daycare - one day one of my kids brought a peanut butter and sweet pickle sandwich -YUK! Her mom said it was a family favorite... no thank you. I prefer peanutbutter with sugar free jelly on a Family Grains whole wheat and honey bread :)

That's about how far I take peanut butter!
Linda
How about Peanut Butter with Mayonaise? My ex and daughters favorite.
I used to eat peanutbutter and sweet pickle sandwiches all the time as a child, they were so good. My favorite now is a thin layer of p. butter on a rice cake with thin sliced banana on top. Not sure about the calories, but it wasn't too bad point wise when I was doing weight watchers.
