Peanut Butter!!

Quote  |  Reply

How do you know what to buy?  I keep peanut butter on hand in case I need a boost or up my cals.  I love that PB2 but it doesnt always do the trick.  So what do you buy?  Reduced fat PB has added sugar.  Reduced sugar/sodium PB has the same fat as regular PB.  Some say "natural".  Then there's "organic".  aghhhhh!!  help!

Have you seen "naturally more" at the store? I logged it on CC and it gets a B :)

Oh yeah, and natural ingredients. no hydrogenated oils. good stuff

I get Smucker's natural - they have creamy or crunchy - it's peanuts and some salt - nothing else - If you go through it within a few weeks you don't need to store it in the fridge - which makes it almost impossible to spread - you just need to stir it up before you use it - I've also used Smart Balance peanut butter, which has added Omega-3's - I've incorporated PB into my diet almost daily and have lost 29 pounds since January - I think nuts are a great source of healthy fats and protein.

I love this stuff!  I always hate opening a new jar and having to stir up all the oil, but its worth it.

I usually get Skippy Natural, crunchy. I have at least 2 tbsp a day, usually more - it's one of my only sources of healthy fats and it's high in protein.

If your diet is pretty natural as it is, I wouldn't worry too much about it. The ingredient to avoid most is probably the hydrogenated oils. Sugar isn't too bad, and I haven't seen a peanut butter that has a ton of sodium in it.

I get Skippy Natural. It tastes just like regular peanut butter - no stirring or refrigerating, plus no hydrogenated oils, which can contribute a small amount of trans fat (the jars can say 0 grams as long as there's less than 0.4 - consume a jar of peanut butter, and it can add up!).

i get Better 'n PeanutButter. 100 cals per 2T and its creamy and yummy. alot sweeter than reg PB though.

I like to go to 'natural' food stores (I also found a regular grocery store that has one near me) and use their peanut butter machine. It has a bunch of nuts in it and it freshly heats/grinds/mashes/whatever to make hot and delicious fresh peanut butter. They also have an almond machine to make almond butter but that's soooo expensive - but delicious.

I also buy natural peanut butter from a local farm here. I figure when your only ingredients are "peanuts, honey & peanut oil" you can't go wrong.

I don't like to store my peanut butter in the fridge so I try to eat it quickly. But even then, it still seems like it stays good for a few weeks.

I get store brand "natural peanut butter".  It has a little bit of salt but nothing else but peanuts.  I used to get the stuff out of the machines but it didn't keep well and it's expensive.

I don't like to eat a lot of peanut butter, I got burnt out on it as a kid.  But last night I realized I was really low on protein so I shoved 2T into my mouth right before bed.  Dumb, I know.  I need to make sandwiches or something.

I buy natural peanut butter from the store but it's from a local farm, all it's got is peanuts and a little salt.

natural just means that it doesn't have any chemicals or hydrogenated oils added.

organic means the ingredients are organically grown(i.e. no pesticides etc.)

hope that helps you :)

I love skippy natural creamy peanut butter, only 180 calories for 2 tablespoons and 7g of protein. They just came out with skippy natural chunky as well which I love because I like to switch it up sometimes.

After hearing about it from this site, I bought some of the Better'n Peanut Butter Low Sodium from Trader Joe's, and it will take some getting used to for me, but all in all for the calories and fat you save it's absolutely worth it, for me at least. The drawback is that the stuff is pretty hard to find, and I still haven't seen all of the variations of it by me (They also have a non low sodium type, and a chocolate peanut butter mix that I'm eager to get my hands on =) )

I got this just yesterday for the first time, and I have to agree that it's pretty good!  It's not thick like Jif or Peter Pan, but knowing that it was 5 less fat grams and 20 less calories makes up for it! I'd definitely try it.
