hi!  u know how the site recommends foods to you that r better than the ones u eat?  well i've been eating reduced fat peanut butter, but they're recommending that i eat full fat chucky peanut butter with added salt.  how is this better than the low fat smooth find?

I believe that eating the full fat one is better for you.... It is good fats in those nuts that you need. here is a recepie that will thin it out for you and make it to were you can eat more than you normally can.

9 oz. Silken Tofu

1/3 cup peanut butter (creamy)

2-4 tsp honey

splash of lime or limon juice aprox 1 tsp.

Blend it all together in a quizenart or Blender.

THere is the recepie with it's stats. Give it a try .... I lvoe mine. and now I have about 10 new people eating it too. enjoy... and don't listen to everything the suggestor thingie says. ;)

Yeah, there are certain foods that are higher in fat that you shouldn't feel too guilty eating a little of.  Peanut butter is definitely one of those foods.  The oil in peanut butter is very healthy in small quantities.  I always start off my day with a slice of wheat bread with a small bit of regular peanut butter.

thx guys!  so does that means that the natural kinda (with no additives, juste peanuts and has oil seperation) is even better?

It could not be worse. My rule of thumb is the less ingredients the better. If it has one ingredient - peanuts - that's your best option.

Remember a serving is one tablespoon.

It's low fat because they add artificial ingredients and sweeteners to it to make up for the taste it lost due to removing some of the fat.  Yuk.  Give me fat any day over that.  Just use it in moderation.

Most of us have come to realize that the CC recomendation tool is b.s. and just ignore it.

i'm sure the tool helps in some ways, but i think i agree with u.  i don't understand how low fat peanut butter is worse than the full fat kind which has ALL the same ingredients...  but i think i WILL try the natural kind and scoop out a couple spoons of oil, lower the fat that way..  i am, after all, not a big fan of added salt and sugar...

thanks averyone!

not sure where you live, but some Safeway's (Von's) and Whole Food stores have the "grind your own" peanut butter machines and depending on the nuts you grind and how fine you grind it, you can end up with a much lower fat alternative. I usually add a tablespoon or two of honey to mine and mix it up after I make it, then calculate the volume of nuts+honey/total peanut butter to come out with the numbers per Tbsp.

Last batch, I used dry roasted nuts and raw dark honey and a 2T serving was 6g carbs, 12g fat, 140 calories

full fat PB has only about 10 calories more than reduced fat...and has far less added ingredients, sweeteners, etc and keeps you satiated. i eat full fat w/o salt (creamy, but i think that's more personal preference than diet tool :)
