peanut butter jelly sandwich?

Quote  |  Reply

I am trying to lose 15 lbs. I really like peanut butter jelly sandwiches for lunch most days. I use skippy natural, with smuckers sugar free preserves, on 100% natures wn whole wheat bread.

Question, is this an ok lunch to lose weight? Keep in mind my other meals during the day are all of the low fat, healthy variety.

Use the peanut butter (1 tbsp) in moderation and you'll be ok.
Definitely okay for lunch - even if you used two tablespoons of natural peanut butter.  It's a good fat that your body needs so if it fits into your day's calories, there's nothing wrong with it.

I like to use PB2 and mix it with one Tablespoon of the real peanut butter.  I just take the powder of PB2 and put the water in then add one  T of the real stuff and it tastes great.  That way I get more peanut butter but it doesn't add up in calories so quickly since 2 T of PB2 is about 55 calories.

Please excuse my ignorane, what des PB2 stand for?

Count your calories and manage your deficit to lose weight.  It doesn't matter what you eat.  If you like PB&J then eat PB&J.
PB2 is a peanut butter substitute that some people on this site buy from a web site (I can't remember the site's address). It's dehydrated peanut butter and lower in calories than regular PB.

I'd say it's perfectly fine. I eat 2 tbs. natural peanut butter on whole wheat everyday and I'm loosing weight steadily. As long as you stay in your calorie limit, it's fine.

it fits within your calorie limit, go for it.

I personally don't think I could EVER give up my pb&j sandwiches =]

Me too. It's something  I love and find very filling. Wouldn't give it up! I use Thomas English Muffins/double fiber/honey wheat and they are 110 cals, less than your usual 2 slices of bread but more filling, imo.

I love peanut butter so much, but the fat in it killed me. I found a substitute for it:

Here

It takes a bit of getting used to, but I got used to it. It has a pretty low amount of fat and low sodium. I'll admit it doesn't really taste similar to PB but it still tastes good. Check it out at your local Whole Foods/Trader Joe's and see if you like it.

ETA: Some people really hate it, but some have come to swear by it. I'm one of those people. Again, takes some getting used to but I still get to have some PB in my life!

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are fine...besides the jelly (unless its an actual fruit jelly and not really sugary but its not that bad so you really shouldn't worry unless you pile it on) it has everything you need. Peanut butter= protein, fat and whole wheat bread= complex carbs, fiber.

I can't live without them either :)

Just be warned the Skippy "Natural" really isn't natural at all. It contains sugar and salt and palm oils (saturated fats).

If you are trying to be healthy, you would be better off with a real natural peanut butter, made of just ground peanuts and perhaps a little salt.

Another sandwich to try is banana and peanut butter, if you're looking for a healthy change-up once in a while.

I'm a sucker for peanut butter.  I can eat it on almost anything.  I watch my cal count closely during the day so that I can average in 1 tablespoon during the day for snack,  then I get another one later at night.  I just use regular peter pan creamy.  I don't exceed my cc for the day and I still get to have something I really enjoy.  Been doing this since I began my weight loss and I'm still losing.

If you are intersested in PB2 info and purchase info can be found at bellplantation.com

I just got my shipment yesterday and had a pb&j and it was delicious!

Also use low-sugar or sugar-free jam/jelly and whole-wheat bread. Makes a HUGE difference. Maybe try a half or open-faced sandwich?

If you love it, and it fits with your calorie intake plans, and you are otherwise eating healthy foods, then go for it!

No sense in depriving yourself. Unnecessary deprivation makes people fail at dieting.

PB2 is soooo good! It tastes just like the real thing! I would consider buying that if you want to cut back on the fat/cals in a serving (i believe its about 3g fat and 50 cals for a serving)
