peanut butter problem

Quote  |  Reply

Ok, this is a little pathetic haha...

I'm beginning to have a little obsession with peanut butter. It's been going on for the past month!! Once I taste it, I can't stop eating it! I asked my dad to hide it, but he doesn't hide it well; and eventually I find it. I've done good for the past 2 days, but I'm afraid that occasional PB binge will come up again. Anyone have the same problem before? Is there a solution??

P.S. - I've lost 65 lbs. over 8 months (which might be fast, idk.)

...and I think I'm going into "relapse" (-i think it's called)

Since the peanut butter binges have come up, I've gained 5 lbs.

I see two solutions.

One: You ask your day or whoever not to buy it because you can't controll yourself.

Two: You controll yourself and eat it in moderation. Theres nothing wrong with having some every day, you just can't eat tons of it.

Are you eating enough fat other than that in your diet? If you're severely limiting your fat intake, your body could be crying out for the peanut butter just for the fat content!

You could try PB2..it's almost the same as peanut butter but without all the calories from the peanut oil. It comes as a powder and you add water. I really like it. You can also get chocolate PB2...similar to chocolate peanut butter. Google it! :)

today is actually the first day on CalorieCount.

Like 2 seconds ago I found this Analysis Check thing.

I think that might be the problem, eheh. -_-

I'm eating a lot of carbs and not enough fat.

Hey don't feel bad....I think most of us love peanutbutter and really don't realize exactly how much we eat sometimes.

Congratulations on losing all that weight though!

buy the individual ones made in portions.  Limit yourself to one.  I've seen those in the store, they come in sets of 6 or something.  when it comes down to it you have to talk yourself out of it

I was going through the same thing for about a month and I weened myself off of it. I absolutely love peanut butter and do not really have an answer for you. I let myself have a tablespoon a day (usually by eating it right off the spoon) or eating it with a banana. Lately, my obsession has wained and I am doing better but I got other problems. I think you should keep it out of the house for awhile until you get yourself back on track.

Careful of those! I assume you are talking about the Jif ones in little plastic cups. Each one has 400 calories! That is nuts - supposed to be one serving...

Back to OP's question --- I asked my dad to stop bringing things in the house that I love and can't stop myself from eating, like a gallon of ice cream or chips and salsa. So now I don't binge on them like I used to.

Also, my dad is obsessed with PB too. And my grandmother - she leaves PB fingerprints all over her house! So my dad just avoids PB at all costs because he knows the damage he'll do if he starts! So try taking it out of the house. Or try holding yourself more accountable.

Good luck!

Congrats on the 65 pounds.

I dont think that is to fats ive lost 60 pounds in 5 months.

And for peanut butter i have eaten peanut butter every single day since ive been on my diet.
I just only eat like 1 serving a day no more than  1 and a half of peanut butter.

Everything else aside, I second the PB2 motion. It's like a quarter of the fat and calories and it's FANTASTIC. You'll dig it if you like peanut butter AND weightloss.

Congratulations on the 65 lb loss!

Hehe i have the sammmme problem. i put mine in the back of a cupboard that i have to move a bunch of pans and stuff to get to. Its literally the only food i cant seem to control! I buy the skippy natural, so i guess its healthier. problem is, it tastes better than regular too...

Peanut butter and Nutella- two spreads I am NOT allowed to eat. I honestly can not control myself and will go into full-binge mode if I have any.

I keep some around for emergencies, but I know I won't stop once I start...so I just don't start.

Good luck. I call it a "gateway" food because it always leads to serious indulgence.

Ohhhh I completely side with you...I have occasional cravings and in the past I have eaten the whole jar in a day, I'll put it away and then keep coming back for just one more spoonful...

Some say that your body is craving Iron or Protein so try to get it from other sources.

Good Luck!!!

OH! try those single jif packs, and limit yourself to one every two days.

that should be an appropriate amount!

...i think.

I have the same peanut butter obsessions as you do.  I can literally eat it straight and can down a whole jar when I get going.  Sadly, my solution is that I stopped buying it.  Sounds like won't work for you because your dad buys it.  :(

I have the same problem.  I can't resist Skippy Peanut Butter!  Right now, I have the natural stuff which is tempting but a bit more resistible.  Peanut butter totally sets me up for bad eating days.  I'm like you, once I start, I just can't stop.  Why does it have to be so high calorie!?  It's one of the most calorie dense foods.  It can totally halt weight loss.  I limit myself to no more than 2 tablespoons a day.  If I give myself a set limit, it's easier to not go overboard but once I go over that limit, I totally just give up and eat a ton.  Yeah, I'm really black and white when it comes to dieting... it's really bad.  I'm going to try that PB2 stuff.

lol, im like that with PB and chocolate.

But i have chocolate square in the fridge in an air-tight box at the back where i cant see it. I plan to add them to my trail-mix for school, i eat my favourite foods while im out and they are in set proportions so i can over-do it, but im not depriving myself of it.

PB, *sigh*, i'm turning off pure PB until i have my emotional eating thing sorted out, we have both crunchy and smooth, but i hide it behind healthy appealling snacks that im more likely to take. I allow myself PB, but only when mixed with banana for example, in a sandwich, and again, i take it out of the house (to school) so i dont go for another one, by the time im home ive forgotten about it for the day.

The most important thing is to let yourself get distracted, the less you think about it the less likely you are to convince yourself you 'want' it. after dinner i find myself with the munchies, but im in the habbit now where its dinner - brush my teeth - shower - world of wacraft (lol) or i chat to people, distract myself.

i dont find myself wanting a snack if im well-fed either, which is hard given that you want to loose weight?

i plan what im going to eat and stick to it, so little 'maybe i should have a snack, because i feel deprived' things dont come up. maybe not calorie for calorie. i just set myself breakkie, lunch, dinner roughly, which sometimes is altered on the spot, and tell myself when im going to have a snack and what. Basically i still have PB, but i find i go out of control when its a snack, so no more PB snacks, i put them in meals; satay, PB/banana etc.

good luck

xoxo
