Pear or hourglass?
I was wondering if someone could help me assess my body shape...that will really help with my weight loss goals. My measurements say "pear" but I think that sometimes I look more hourglassy. Also, I hold almost all of my weight in my stomach and I wonder if that makes me more "apple"-y. Here's a couple picture of my figure

Also: do you guys think losing 15 pounds is enough for me to get rid of the tummy? I'm 4'11" 125 pounds 18 years old (1 month away from 19). I put on about 10-15 my first year at college and now my pants don't really fit.
Judging by your photos, I'd say you're definitely pear shaped.
You have a larger hip to bust ratio than would be seen in an hourglass figure.
A tummy bulge doesn't make you apple shaped, as you are still pear shaped with it.
When you start to lose weight, the first weight that comes off is the fat around your internal organs. It's hard to say whether 15 lbs would be enough or too much, you just have to play it by ear and decide when you get there. Also, a bit of toning would probably help.

you look like a pear shape to me as well.
i think pear shapes lose around the stomach faster so 15 pounds should get rid of the 'tummy'..

15 pounds might help with the stomach issue, but exercise will help tone it up. Good luck. :)
More pear than hourglass I'd say.
i think you're pear shaped but if you lose the weight , you'll be more hour glassy...i think if you lose 15 lbs you'll definately lose the tummy...also try some crunches so that when the fat goes, you'll have fabulous abs underneath..Good Luck!!
How is hourglass defined? My chest and hip measurments are about the same, with my waist about 10 inches smaller. I think this is hourglass? Am I right?

It depends on your shoulders too. If your bust and hips are similar yet you have narrow shoulders you'll look pear shaped.
Ok I just went and measured now because I'm curious:
Chest: 38"
Waist: 27.5"
Hips: 38.5"
Shoulders: 40"
So what does that mean then?

Thanks for the advice guys! I'm just never sure since I don't know how accurate going by measurements are....I measure like a pear, yet I wear a C cup bra, and hold all my weight in my tummy. I have characteristics of all 3!!
I think you are a pear.
You say you carry weight in your stomach like an apple but apples usually have thin legs and from the pictures it looks like you carry weight in your thighs as well. Also if you have a bigger stomach you can't be an hourglass because hourglasses are supposed to have defined waists.
I think if you lost weight you might become more of an hour glass, as long as you tend to lose more off the bottom half instead of the chest. That's what happened to me, anyways. I started out 37-31-42 and now I'm 36.5-29-38.
Also it's not just about chest size. As jewelsmcblah said, if your bust and hips were about equal but your shoulders were narrow you would appear pear shaped or if you had a smaller bust but broad shoulders you would be an hour glass. It's hard to tell from your pictures, but it doesn't look like you have broad shoulders which reinforces my opinion that you are a pear.
15 pounds should definitely be enough to get rid of the tummy. 15 pounds is a lot when you're only 125 to start with! I went from 150 to 135 in the last 3 months and I've noticed a big improvement. Since you are shorter and lighter than me it would be even more noticeable on you.
