For the Pears- Waist to Hip Ratio
I've been doing CC for about 5 weeks now, and lost about 9 pounds (yeah)! I've lost inches too, but am startled about my waist to hip ratio (63%).
26.75" W
42"H
34"B :(
5'6" Height, Age 25, CW 143 pounds
No wonder I can't find pants that fit! Is anyone else as much of a pear as I am?
I'm more of an hourglass, but I totally understand the pants problem! My waist is 27", hips 40", and got totally annoyed trying on pants yesterday. Is there any solution besides taking stuff to a tailor? I've also noticed that when I lose weight I tend to lose fast off my waist but it takes forever for my hips to slim at all. But I guess having a small waist is good!
I'm not sure what mine is yet (I need to go buy some flexible measuring tape!) but I'm certainly pear shaped. It is so difficult finding pants and shirts for that matter. I'm only a 36 B, so most shirts that fit in the hips are saggy around the breast area.
Jeans shopping for me is a huge debocle that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy! It seems like all the pants that fit in the hips, are too wide in the legs or too long (I'm a shorty).
Low-rise pants work the best for me. I generally buy only Calvin Klein these days as they're the only pants I've ever found that I can buy without trying on, and they fit. Last time I measured I was about 40" - 27".
A high hip-to-waist ratio is very attractive to the gentlemen. There's a reason why ladies used to wear corsets and bustles. ![]()
I am a small busted pear and I have problems with pants (clothes in general) as well. Most things are too big on top while still too small on the bottom. I've had luck with the stretch editor pant from Express and their long sexy basic tee shirts. They are stretchy but form fitting and therefore more flattering. I also like baby doll knee length dresses, they draw attention to the bust and calves and away from my monstrous behind and thighs. All that said, lysistrata is right, gentleman like the big booty, heck there are even songs about it. It seems to be us women that tend to worry about it needlessly. ![]()
Im a pear too. I usually need a couple of inches off the length and darts sewing into the waist on pants.
tell me about darts please, are you saying I can buy jeans that are too big and have them tailored to fit better? forgive me if this is common knowledge I come from a long line of fashion inept people
If you buy pants that fit in the hips but are loose in the waist, yes, darts will fix them.
I find a lot of it is finding the right 'rise' pants. Nothing that fits my hips fits my waist, but super low rise are a pain, so I find mid-rise to fit the best. Prior to the difference rises being popular, I just had ill-fitting pants, now I buy pants in juniors just to avoid the problem.
I'm 5'3, 24''waist and 37''hips.
All my weight loss is behind me and I'm on maintenance... And I wear european size 34-36 (US 4-6?). It's nearly impossible to find non-low-rise trousers that fit my nonstandard figure, the outlets that sell stuff for people with curvier figures don't carry my size.
I've had to sew darts in 90% of my trousers and even skirts!
I'm more of an hourglass... but in reply to the darts on pants question...I alter my clothes quite often. Just try your pants on... pinch the seams at the sides together to see how much they should be brought in (measure, pin or mark so you know how much), then see how far down from the top of the pants they need to be taken in (again mark somehow...) Turn your pants wrong side out and with your markings sew a straight line from the top down to where the dart needs to stop... taper gently on towards the outside when you get to the bottom of the dart so you don't get a "point". I'm not a tailor, so it may not be the "correct" way to take them in... but it does work for me!
I've had luck with Eddie Bauer's "Blakely" pant, which are suppossed to be a size smaller in the waist then in the hips. The orginal style fit me perfectly, but their new revision seems to have taken a bit of the difference out (waist is not as small as it was before in the pant). They are still way better than most other pant styles I have found.
I should probably have my pants tailored, but have never take the trouble. Maybe I should learn to do it myself.
