Peking Duck - how many calories?
You know that delicious duck in slices served with scallions and hoisin sauce in little pancake/wraps .... Does anyone know the calorie content of one of those wraps or how bad it is for you?
A google search for it brought me this link http://www.recipezaar.com/38023 that says something like 1600 calories per serving (based on the recipe). CC is thinking only 750 calories though: http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/item/61157.h tml
Whoever has a closer estimate, it's still pretty high cal. Super oily, that's why I don't care for it myself. I don't know what your's is like, but the stuff I had in Beijing was always just fried skin and fat. Gross. :P
Ugh, that's way more shocking than I expected .... maybe it's for a few of the wraps? Seems really high cal? We are going there for dinner tonight (not Beijing but the restaurant called Peking Duck). I like the taste but am trying to stay slim for my upcoming wedding. I guess I will probably order something else ...
Pancakes I would say are 50 cal each. The rest of the nutritional content, though, relies on how much hoisin sauce there is and whether or not there was meat on the duck's skin and fat.
Duck is extremely fatty and Peking duck is pressed and cooked with the skin and all the fat. It's delicious, but I'd save it for a special treat when you plan to go over the top. It's kind of hard to work even 700 extra calories into your daily target.
Dammit. I had like 7 the other night.
A large amount of the calories comes from the duck, sadly. HOWEVER. My mum once made an alternative version with chicken, and we ate them in lettuce leaves rather than the pancakes. Yummy.
