How much are people burning per day to lose about a pound a week?
I was wondering how many calories others are burning in order to lose around a pound a week? I don't want to burn too much and become sick or fatigued, but I want to burn enough to reach my goal in time.
It takes roughly a 3500 calorie deficit to loose one pound. So by having a 500 calorie daily deficit you should loose a pound a week. A 1000 calorie deficit should equal a two pound loss a week. It's not recommended to have a deficit higher than that.
I always have at least a 500 calorie deficit but it's still going so slow. It's taken me about 2 months to lose 5 pounds. I very very rarely go over my calorie limit, I don't get why it's taking so long.
Thanks for the help so far.
Don't get discouraged! At least you've lost 5 lbs! Your body may just be taking a bit of time to get into the groove, so to speak. You also need to take into account how many calories you are taking in. Is it enough? Are you exceeding the 1000 deficit? You could try changing the foods you eat, while staying within your calories. Alot of people advocated the "zig zag" method of caloric intake. That means if your intake is suggested to be 1600 calories in a day, you eat 1300 one day, 1600 the next, 1800 that day after, 1400 and so on. Basically you want your weekly average to be 1600 and you never eat less than 1200 in a day. The idea is to keep the body guessing. Obviously you still want to reach for the healthy choices, even on your higher calorie days. Give it a try. You may find it helps you.
You may also want to try changing your workouts a bit - adding some weight training or a new type of cardio activity. What do you do now for workouts?
