people calling me anorexic

Quote  |  Reply
Ok I have worked hard for over a year almost a year and a half Ive lost 48 pounds and I am sick of people (my family) calling me anorexic or other things. I get mad and tell them I worked hard to become healthy and I dont appreciate you calling me anorexic. People call me this while I am eating pizza or cake (at parties) and it just pisses me off. I told my cousin, the one who brought up this post, that I worked hard and I am not anorexic and he said well you lost it so fast. I told him a year and a half to lose 48 pounds is very good and a very healthy way to do it. I am not starving myself. Just a rant had to put it somewhere, thanks.

They're just jealous, and jealous, uneducated people say stupid, mean things sometimes.

Congratulations, and don't listen to those people, since they obviously don't know what they're talking about. :K
This self-test, provided by one of our experts, can help you figure out whether or not they're correct. If you feel the need to, print it out and take it with and show them how they have misjudged you.

Likely they are just jealous. It happens, sadly.
All that matters is how you feel about yourself.  I've been overweight since I was a teenager and my family used to joke about it all the time - even I joked about it because I was uncomfortable and had low self-esteem.  As an adult, I have taken my life in my hands and taken responsibility for how big I am and the poor quality of my health.  I finally had to tell my family that comments and jokes about my weight are no longer appropriate.  That I won't tolerate fatism or references that now that I've lost some weight I'm somehow  a better person.

It is NOT ok for them to say things like that and you don't need to defend your weight.  When issues come up, just tell them that it's not open for discussion and that your lifestyle habits are not debatable anymore.  If you know you're being healthy, then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

That is less than a pound a week.  Very reasonable.   Are you at your goal weight?

You look, from your pics, wonderful at 118...I would certainly feel happy to stop there, were I you...good job honey, and congratulations...

People called me anorexic too (I think as a joke).

Rather than ignore it, I explained to them what I did and why I did it. As soon as I explain myself, their attitude changes dramatically.

Thanks guys, everyone that knows me knows why I do it, and how I do it, but they still give me a hard time. They are super jealous, except the cousin who called me that was a guy lol I just hate going to family get togethers anymore cause of the jokes and the "Casie, EAT!" I do if I have the calories and if Im hungry. I do not starve myself, I am a food lover! It is great that I have learned how to love it though. anywho thanks again

I have had the same response, although it is not from family members and friends. It is from COMPLETE strangers. In one post that I started a month or two ago I told about how people brought doughnuts into work and I said I shouldn't eat them cause i'm trying to loose weight and this one woman told me that I can "afford it" and I'm too skinny as it is. This is when I weighed 200lbs, 35lbs above my gold weight. I'm 6'1" so my goal weight is 165. I was utterly infuriated that people who don' t know me feel like they have to undermine my efforts just because they can't achieve what I am. It all comes down to jealousy. I am the youngest woman in the work place at 21. The next youngest woman in my building is in her 30's. I understand that it is harder to loose weight when you are older but please!!! Don't undermine my efforts.

YOU LOOK MAHVAH LOUS!

dont worry what other people say..

I think you look absolutely perfect in the 118 pic!  People say it to me as a joke but I get very defensive.  Obviously I am not anorexic and it's a stupid thing to say.
Ignore them! I lost 30 lbs in about a year which is VERY reasonable and I still get rude comments. For example the other day my mom made cookies and I went to eat one and my dad said "are you sure you can force down a cookie?" Grr... It seems these days if you lose weight people automatically assume you have some kind of disorder. Just be happy that you look fabulous!
Wow - you look wonderful and healthy in your pics.  I'm sure jealous.   Really that probably is why people react as they do.  Be proud of your hard work - it has paid off!
omg!!! i feel the same way. and i hate it too.
I had this happen to me too.  Unfortunately it got to the point where I had to quit my job because customers kept coming up to me (it was a lot of the same people over and over, because I worked in a video store where people had accounts) and asking me if I was sick, if I was anorexic, and telling me I had lost too much weight.  Some of them seemed genuinely concerned, others just wanted something to gossip about.  Old geezers would say stuff like, "You're gonna blow away in the breeze, girlie!" And once I had this dumba$$ guy just come up and say to me, "Uh... are you, like anorexic or something?"  It really pissed me off, but it got out of control when the customers started talking to my boss about it.  It made her, and me, very uncomfortable.  She started being very rude to me as a result of being sick of everyone talking to her about it.  It made for a terribly awkward situation at work and so finally I just quit.  I'm so glad I did, though.  Now I'm just focusing on schoolwork, unemployed and loving it!

Sorry that was kinda long, but it sort of has to do with what you were saying :)

My family does that SAME thing...they say i have an eating disorder... i no how u feel they say to me that i dont eat anymore blah blah blah but i just say that i eat healthier and NO junk food.

I lost 33 pounds over the course of a year and a half ..........
