Why do people dislike tall women?

I'm 5'10" and am pretty much banned from ever wearing heals because if I do, whenever I walk around in town, I get weird looks from everyone.
You know, those disapproving "You're wearing that?" looks.
Even my mum doesn't like me wearing heals.
And I'm not talking about giant platforms or 6" heals, I'm talking about 2-3" boots.

... I found these ankle boots while shopping today and they were the first shoes I had found that I actually liked, but of course I couldn't get them because when I tried them on, I suddenly became "stupid giant woman" and the people on the other side of the isle (particularly short girls by the way) looked up and gave me this weird look like "Oh my god, freak! why is she trying on the heals???"

Hmmph society is cruel to the tall.

or is it just me they don't like in particular?

Was brave and brought a pair of boots I fell in love with in the store.

Still hesitant about what my mums going to say about them but I like them, can't want to wander around town in them!
... Might go out for lunch tomorrow, just to get out of the house and relax and have some "Me" time...

When you have to ask a taller person to reach the pineapple juice that's on the top shelf in the grocery store, the last carton in the back, because you can't reach it, you're short.

I do not feel sorry for the tall people.  They can reach everything.

And if I wear the kind of shoes that will make me sufficiently taller, I fall down, which I have pretty much gotten used to now.

Tall people should not underestimate short people however.  We might be little, but we're quick and we can bite a chunk outta your ankles before you know what's hit you.

I always really wanted to be short, like really small.  Like 5'2.  You can't ever be "petite" if you're pushing six feet.  One of my friends' moms was about 5'2, and she was the most beautiful delicate creature.  She was like a butterfly, absolutely gorgeous.  She had such small, graceful hands.  She was a very refined looking woman.  That was how I always wished I could be.  Though I am small-boned, I can never, ever be petite.

I guess it's human nature to want what you can't have.

If you want to wear heels, go for it! Who cares what random strangers may or may not be thinking about you... does it really matter?

I'm 5'8'' now. I know that's not really tall but when I was 12 I was the tallest girl in my whole class and my church. I used to be so emberassed of my height. I would slouch and wear flats, but my mom always made me wear heals and walk straight. Now I don't even notice my height and I'm proud to be tall....

Being tall has it's advantages. Yes you can reach the top shelf at the grocery store. You can see over the croud at a concert. You can be a model.

It also has disadvantages: Finding a guy taller then you. Sitting in a little sports car. finding pants that fit your waist and are long enough. You can get a pair of pants shortened but you can't get one lengthened, Or not being able to wearing one of those cute dresses because instead of going to just above your knees they go just below your butt cheeks.

Just had a flash back:

I remember being 13 I was taller then anyone my age, My girlfriend fixed me up with a boy(shorter then me). We (her and her boyfriend, me and my date) went to the park her boyfriend picked her up and carried her down a hill (now she was short and very petite) Well the boy I was with wanted to do the same thing. With much protesting I let him picked me up. We went down the hill and he fell forward right on me. Everyone laughed. Needless to say I didn't date till I was 17 and he had to be a very buff guy. Which was cutting off my nose to spite my face, as I missed out on dating some nice boys.

Don't miss out on life and having fun. You can never go back and change it. If you like wearing heals wear them, I say wear the shoe if they fit, If everyone looks at you, It's because they are jealous and wish they could look so good.

Yea but you can always ask an nice looking tall guy to get it for you!!!!

That is what we have to do.... wait until a tall person comes along.  Or go without.  Or settle for something that you can reach, which you don't really want.

If you tall people would just be where we need you to be at all times, things would go much better.

Personally I love being tall and wearing heals, people notice how nice you look more often. ;)

Yikes...you're wearing heels????

It's not the height, it's that they mostly look downright painful and from my experiences most heels are extremely uncomfortable (except boots).  I'll wear them for dancing if they're comfortable, but I wear the ugliest most comfortable shoes (not quite granny nursing shoes) the rest of the time.

i dont mind women wearing heels....i am 6'5 so i guess i wouldnt feel as threatned as an average sized person....i say...you like em?!?!  wear em!!!!

Well... I brought heals (photo in my gallery).
They're boots, and I love 'em!
They make my calves look tiny!
I mean, I kind of have small calves anyway, but having boots that hug tight to them, instead of wearing baggy cargos or loose fitting jeans, just shows it off.
I really like them... But I'm still really hesitant wearing them in front of my mum.
I don't even want her to see them, 'cause I want to avoid her making any comments.
But I can't wait to bust them out and go around town in them!
Lol zip 'em on and sexy-fy myself just to go out and get coffee by myself.

... Wow i'm such a sad human being lol.

Any tall females in the New Zealand, Hamilton vicinity want to get coffee with me so we don't have to feel alone in our sexy boots?

My favourite pair of shoes have about 2" heels. I'm 5'8" and people are always like "why are you wearing heels? You're tall enough!"

A- they're my favourite pair of shoes

B- unlike you, I do not have to wear heels to be tall, I wear them to enjoy them ;)

C- heels make you walk more sexily!

I've never gotten the impression that most people dislike tall women.  The modeling industry prefers tall women, and there is a positive correlation between increased height and intelligence:

The only advantage short women like me have is it's not too hard to find guys taller than us.  We have no other advantages of which I am aware.  So, be happy - how people look at you in high heels is not much of a concern compared to your advantage in intelligence and modeling preferences!

Well I'm not sure about the inteligence thing. Whenever tall broad women are portrayed on tv, they're oafs who are called Olga and look more like men in disguise!

And people tend to dislike models too.
Whether it be for jealousy or whatever.

I am tall and wear high heels every single day.  I don't care what they say.

I don't have anything against tall women in heels, in fact I never thought about it till I read this thread! :o

So my new opinion (since I didn't have one before as I didn't think about it) is you should wear heels and show off those super awesome long legs!! ;D
