Okay people, I found something to kill those hunger pains....
Some of you mention scoops (powder?) and some capsules?
I am from the UK, any help as to anything similar here would be good! Thanks! Right off to work!
OK for thsoe in the UK i think this is what they are talking about, £5.99 for 250 tablets
i read the article you linked, alysiabrooks, thanks for that. quite promising. also, i see online that vitamin shoppe carries it. so does amazon.com. at vitamin shoppe, it's $26 for 180 capsules. "wellbetx pgx" (as it says in the article) = pgx.
Hmm, I'm not sure I understand...how is this any different than taking a fiber supplement? I mean, couldn't you do the same thing with a fiber supplement like Metamucil (spelling, sorry)?
(not being rude, I really don't understand
)
that makes me nervous... how do you know its safe and all?
Using various forms of fiber supplements can aide digestion issues and relieve hunger pains. However, this does not address the root problem -- nutrition. I have worked with a nutritionist to get my nutrition in order so that I can lose the 13 lbs I want to lose by the end of March, while getting in shape to run a mini-triathlon. With that, she encourages me to get at least 30g of fiber a day, without supplements, while limiting my caloric intake to 1800 calories per day. I swim 3 days per week for 60-90 minutes, run 4 miles 3x per week, and cycle 7-9 miles 2x per week. I really can't afford lower calories to avoid dipping below 1200 calories per day net intake. That being said, I am able to achieve 30 g of fiber per day, 6 oz of whole grains per day, 5 servings of vegetables, 3 servings of fruit, and 6 oz of lean meats or beans per day. I use a low calorie, high fiber whole grain bread (only 45 calories and 2g fiber per slice). I eat berries or apples as my fruit (blackberries are 7 g fiber per serving), and I use avocado as a source of fiber, healthy fats, and vegetable. I rarely feel hungry eating this way. Even on non-work out days when I limit caloric intake to 1300 calories, I do not feel hungry. I eat every 3-4 hours, beginning at 6:30AM. I eat small amounts regularly to avoid hunger. For example, two normal breakfast meals for me are: 3 egg whites (cooked with pam -- 90 calories total), 2 slices whole wheat bread toasted (no butter) (90 calories), and 1 slice fat free american cheese (30 calories) for a breakfast meal total of 210 calories, followed by a cup of black coffee (no sugar). I am full, and I don't feel hungry until 4 hours later. I continue to drink hot tea in the mornings, with no sugar, lemon, or honey. Another breakfast is 1/2 cup (uncooked) multi-grain oats (147 calories), 1 cup frozen harvest berry blend (raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, and blueberries) (70 calories), 1 tsp splenda brown sugar blend (10 calories), and 1/4 cup skim milk (25 calories). For a total of approximately 260 calories. This is what I ate this morning, and I didn't feel hungry for at least 4 hours. Use slow release high fiber, whole grain foods, and avoid the "quick fix" of a supplement. Supplements are helpful until you learn to manage food intake, but don't rely on them for long. You might just face the "effects" later. Good luck. By the way, I've lost 7 lbs, 6 inches, and 3% body fat since thanksgiving following this. I'm 5'7 and have another 6 lbs to lose.
elsmith999, that's great to hear! however, i'm hungry. so if anyone knows more about pgx, i would like to know:
since the fiber expands w/the water you drink, does it stretch out your stomach? my stomach's pretty big as it is (holds a lot at once), so if taking a capsule of this essentially lays a cement block in my stomach that makes me feel full, isn't it accomplishing that by expanding my stomach?
if anyone has any feedback, whether they've tried it or not, as to the validity of this, i would appreciate your sharing. thanks so much.
i'd really like to try this.
but i'm the most skeptical peron...
I found this at a local store called Super Supplement www.supersup.com It is the weirdest thing and you probably won't believe me. But I was just trying to remember what the store was called so I could look it up online... and the commercial for it came on the TV and the exact same time with the website address. I just thought that was kinda spooky or fate or something!

Warning: Drink at least 4 oz of water per capsule when taking this product. Taking this product without adequate fluid may cause it to swell and block your throat or esophagus and may cause choking. Do not take this product if you have difficulty in swallowing. If you experience chest pain, vomiting, or difficulty in swallowing or breathing after taking this product, seek immediate medical attention.
This is enough for me not to use it.
I guess you've never taken any kind of fibre supplement before. Any basic fibre pill (Metamucil, ultra fibre etc) tells you to drink lots of water and that if you don't there's a risk it could get stuck in your throat. This isn't some crazy thing that happens with just that pill, fibre in pill form is greatly compressed and expands with liquid so you need a lot of water to wash it down.
My father is taking it primarily to lower his blood sugar levels and I believe it was recommended by his doctor. Its an added bonus that it reduces hunger pains!
It is made by Natural Factors a Canadian Company. It is not easily found in shops, so ordered mine on the internet. ( email me if you want to know which company I ordered it from, as I do not know if you are allowed to mention specific companies on this forum )
It is not cheap. A canister is around 28 bucks. Taste is ok, but you have to drink it quickly as it gels fast and gets thick.
I have only started yesterday so I can not say one way or another if this is just another scam or if not effective on me. I can update this in a few weeks, I suppose to let you know my general opinion.
But will say this for now, if you have constipation, well..........you won't after using this fiber product ! Yikes !!

Hi there! I just started taking these pills. They are sold in Costco. I'm from Canada, so not sure if you can get them in the US in Costco.

Any fiber has positive effects on blood sugar but l doubt if a doctor will prescribe this as the only way to reduce blood sugar if a patient is diabetic.
elsmith999 l am with you all the way, nutrition, exercise and plenty of good ol' H2O has kept me regular and when l feel irregular l take benefiber.
