how come some people.........

Quote  |  Reply
Cry How come some people can loose weight by only counting points or calories and I  count calories and exercise and barely can loose a pound a week.  I'm currently as of Friday 205 lbs, My daily calories are 1435 and i exercise 5 days a week for bout a hour. I do the fat burning program on the treadmill at 3.0 incline at 3.5 mph and you think with all that I would loose like 5 pounds a week. but oh well, I guess its no use of complaining. gotta KEEP THE FAITH

first, there's nothing wrong with a pound a week.  you're watching too much Biggest Loser!

second, if you're doing exactly the same exercise routine every day, your body is probably getting too efficient at it.  change it up a little; faster & shorter, longer, walk outside, jog a little, lift some weights, etc.

third, you're absolutely right: no use complaining!  you're doing well.

Agree 1 lb per week is great. Plus you are probably building muscle while losing fat so the scale will not move as quickly but your inches as well as how you feel should be improving.

Incidentally, how tall are you? I am asking as I am thinking 1435 calories is too little for you and if you upped it just a wee bit you might find better results??

LOL.. I do watch the biggest loser all the time.. and yes i usually do the same routine. i hadn't thought of the fact that my body is probably getting use to the workout, thanks
i'm like 5"2. 28yrs old.
Where did you get the 1435 number? when I put your stats into a BMR calculator it came to around 1700, you aren't eating enough.
well, i got the number by times my weight by 7 (205 *7) =1435. that's what i read in one of the biggest loser magazine. i think i remember seeing it said to times your weight by 7 to get daily calorie limit. I could be wrong though

multiplying your weight by some constant doesn't take into account important variables such as height, gender and age, it's a overly-simplified cookie-cutter method of determining how many calories you need and way less acurate than other methods.

I also wouldn't believe anything I see or hear on the biggest loser.

true. but i'm so desperate to loose weight just trying to figure out what to do.

You can trust the counters on this site sweety... they work for too many people for them to be grossly wrong. How many calories does the site recommend for you, and how many does it say you burn each day? As long as your intake is less than your outgo, you should lose weight... Super-fast weightloss is never healthy, and it doesn't usually stick around for long either.

Losing a pound a week is perfectly healthy and sustainable long-term - it might not be as fast as you'd like, but if you keep it up you WILL GET THERE!

No way!! That is definitely wrong.  If I multiply my weight by 7 to get my per day caloric intake, I would only be eating a little over 1000 calories per day - major starvation mode!!!  I am amazed you are even losing a pound a week doing that!
i'd only get 987!  i'm starving just thinking about it!
As for the multiplication of your weight. I've heard from one member here that you take your weight X 11 (not 7) and that could represent a normal intake of cals for you, but still, do it properly with thi site. As for the training part, I add my workouts manually and put myself as sedentary, I find it reflects reality better! Good luck on your weight loss! You can do it!!!

Your BMR = 1706 EAT NO LESS THAN THIS! (you would burn this in a coma)

Everyday EAT (1706x1.2) = 2047  to MAINTAIN WEIGHT

Everyday EAT (2047-500) = 1547 to lose 1 pound per week. (not healthy to eat only 1547... remember do not go under your BMR of 1706!)

So eat 1706 and make up the additional calories by burning them at the gym (1706-1547) = 159 giving you a nice and healthy 500 calorie deficit for the day.

So, Eat 1706 and make sure you burn 159 calories at the gym.

If you workout a ton and burn 400 calories at the gym then eat =1547 + 400 = 1947

If you burn 300 calories at the gym then eat 1547+300 = 1847 calories per day.

I knw this is confusing but I hope that helps!!

I forgot to include my sources = http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

Someone sent me this site and it really helped!

RIGHT ON CHUB2LOSE!!!!
Thanks! It took me a while to figure this out. I had to ask tons of questions, get help from many people on this site, and I also did my own research. I finally feel like I understand and would love to shed some light on the subject for others…then hopefully shed some pounds!
You all are right. I guess i should believe everything i see on reality t.v. chub2lose you are right. I think CC  suggested the same thing when i put in my stats. So basically you are saying that at 205lbs (can't believe i said my weight again  ) i should eat around 1706 calories and when i exercise on treadmill for 45 mins I USUALLY burn around 325 calories that would give me a deficit of around 1400, is that correct?
thank you, I will be sexy by the summer and with more confidence in myself..lol..

That is correct math, but remember do not eat less than 1706 calories or your body will go into starvation mode and hang on to all of your fat.

If you burn 325 calories at the gym then eat 1547+325 = 1872 calories per day.

Your formula* = 1547+ ["x" calories burned at gym] = [eat " X" calories per day].

*It is different for everyone. (My formula is different than yours calculated above)

If you follow that you should lose 1 pound per week (not taking in to account muscle gain and potential excess water weight)

thank you. on my way to gym now. thanks
