People at the gym are rude

Quote  |  Reply
I was at the gym today and i was on the elliptical. The room with the ellipticals and treadmills is full of windows so people can see in when they walk past it to go to the weight machines. Well anyways this guy was walking by and stared at me and started smiling then looked away and looked back and smiled again. I was like ok maybe it was something else. But then 20 minutes later he comes back and looks at me and smiles again and it was one of those smiles like he was trying not to laugh. I finally got off and went up to him and said "Take a picture it will last longer". He was so suprised that i said something. Did I do the right thing or no? and how do i further deal with this?

What did he say after that. Are you sure he wasn't smiling at you for good reasons. Like he liked you. I was at the gym yesterday and these two adults were getting into also. Not the same situation but they were talking very loud. Everyone was staring at them. I wish that people would just not act out. I used to be so afraid of the gym because I thought people would laugh at me because I wasn't doing the machines right or becuase I was all sweaty in the butt area. Now I don't care I am there for me and they will not take that away. If he was laughing at you it is because he is insecure with himself and by laughing at others it makes him feel better. Do I think you did the right thing... Yes, don't let him think he is getting away with his rude behavior.

I would just ignore it.  Maybe he was laughing because not many guys at the gym use the ellipticals or WHATEVER.  Personally, I don't have much respect for the muscle-bound guys at the gym because I feel that most of them are shallow, dumb and compensating for something.  One of my biggest pet peeves are the guys that go to the gym day after day and only work their upper body.  UGH!!!  It's like their sole purpose is to get huge pecs and a six pack just to pick up the ladies (don't get me started on the type of girls these guys attract).

Moral is ....let it go and don't acknowledge behavior like this in the future.

Maybe he was checking out his manly physique in the reflection of the window, and was impressed with his pecks/abs/glutes. Maybe he totally loves himself!

I'm with fallingstars though....let it go. Like badly behaved kids who thrive on ANY kind of attention, these boys will do anything for a cheap laugh. Why give them the satisfaction?
haha im not gay but if he was checking me out id take that as a compliment. but he didnt say anything he just walked off.
and i would be runnin on the treadmill but 1 i like the elliptical more and 2 i got shin splints.
I think it's awesome that you said something! I wouldn't have had the guts.  Good job :)
lol That's so funny! I had a similar experience just a few days ago. In my gym, there's an area that is JUST for the females that you can only get to through the womens locker room... there were a couple guys that walked by, then stopped and stared for awhile. I just stared back at them. When they smiled at me, I flipped them off. =)

Damn fools.
Maybe he wasn't smiling at you and there was a hot chick behind you that he was smiling at.  lol j/k

He's an ass.  I would have at least given him the finger :)
this has happened to me... only for me to find out that there are apparently time cards and you can "sign up" for certain popular machines.

as not to be rude they wouldn't say anything to me but instead walk over and look annoyed or laugh until one catty woman was like "YOU NEED TO SIGN UP YOU'RE WORKING OUT IN MY TIME SLOT, FIND ANOTHER MACHINE"

so maybe he was trying to be nice about it!!!
Ha! I agree with fallingstars I feel the same way.

That guy is weird! What's his problem. I would laugh back at him.
